First off the graphics and gameplay are amazing , a great improvement over the original, BF 1942's weapons were a helluva lot more innacurate and harder to control even when crouched or prone , and though the recoil is about the same , the assault rifles pack enough punch to drop an enemy in 2-3 shots . The game features adapting maps that lock off areas when there are not enough players , so the maps can be huge enough to fit 64 people , or small enough for an 8 player game to be comfortable and not have to run for 15 minutes to reach the enemy base . Combined with fairly capable ( though still retarded ) bots to assist a small team of human players , the game is alot easier to enjoy than the previous ones .
I'll do a more in depth preview and post more screenshots in a few hours .

sweet
You ain't waste no time at all boy.
what is the verdict when compared to Desert Combat?
Total pwnage?
-
the game is completely different .. haven't got to try out the aircraft yet , will probably need a LAN/internet game for that . Dice in sweden really did a good job , the graphics and gameplay are superb , it greatly improved on the standard battlefield gameplay mechanics , now you have one 'Battle commander' giving most of the orders and directing the strategy , so everyone else can focus on their particular task eg. sniping , anti tank, assault without having to spend time asking for backup or artillery . It gives the game a much smoother pace , so n00bs can hop right in without bieng too overwhelmed . And remember having to do boring artillery firing / spotting jobs? now the cannon fires itself once given an an order , and once you have your radar station up, you don't need to ask for targets .
Definately the multiplayer game of this year , but problem is the hardware requirements , you NEED 512mb of RAM to run it without getting chopped at 5 frames a second , its very playable at 1 GB and some task switching can be done , but seeing as i don't have norton/ spyware / firewall running like most pcs do , i don't recommend trying .
it all boils down to this :
Pros : better graphics
better gameplay
polished and smooth combat system and interface
less strategizing done by the player , and more frag !
new weapons and vehicles , lots of maps .
'smart' maps that condition themselves to the no. of players on them.
Cons : massive hardware requirements , minimum spec is Radeon 8500 or Geforce 5700 , 512 DDR and 1.7ghz
to actually enjoy the game you need a 9800 pro / geforce 6600gt ,
1 GB of RAM and a 2.4ghz P4 or athlon 2600 .
You would probably need a fast dedicated server for 32 or 64 player games .
-
sounds good, but more importantly, what about the explosions??
are they teh pwnage??
-
Dang that looks sweet...... How long before it becomes available to us here in T&T GATT
virus screams for GOLD :)
-
its already available , just search on google for one of the many demo files and download ! its 560 megs so you'll be busy for awhile , the game itself will be out on june 21st i think, its ready as it is , only a few bugs to be fixed .
-
when santa bring me the new pc, I'll be sweatin that hard as well....
(damn, a whole 6 months to wait... where de fat bastard all now?)
-
Well, i running with a weak 5200 and its playing pretty good, but just the loading times are a bitch.
Yea, only got to run a single player, so no airplanes just yet, but its cool. Although....the audio seems to be in spanish, the single player mode is Mexico vs USa (ironic huh) but even when playing with USA, the audio is in spanish....weird...but im not complaining :D
-
eh? its Arabic nations vs USA though the arabic flag looks alot like the mexican flag , you probably got yourself a spanish language demo :p , i noted some new features , medics can actually heal most injuries with their shock paddles, so unless you die inside a vehicle, once a medic is around you can be revived , US assault troops have the M4 grenade launcher and smoke grenades, and tanks have smoke screens , the arabs have variants of the AK47 / 74 for everything but their special forces and snipers . in the full version there will be a chinese side too... can't wait for it .
The game is alot more CPU and RAM intensive than it is graphics intensive... i just clocked my 6600gt down to 200mhz core / 600mhz RAM , which is about 9600xt speed , and it still played good at 1024x768 with everything maxed out , the physics and game subsystem are to blame, DICE traditionally makes sloppy system hogging games .
-
One question, can u set bots like in counterstrike?
-
Arabic? wtf? I could have sworn that flag was a mexico flag :S But all the text is in english.....but whatever...Atleast I have the game :)
One question, can u set bots like in counterstrike?
I dont think you can set bots (atleast not in single player mode) But there is an enemy team for you to take out....
-
Well i still goin to buy it. I may have to install it in a cafe for Lan.
-
Well i still goin to buy it. I may have to install it in a cafe for Lan.
Well...you CAN just get the demo you know....
-
Ill do that. Ill borrow it from one ah my frends. Thanks for the idea.
-
went into the multiplayer.. haven't seen options to set bots but i'm sure its there somwhere.. now lets look at some fighter jets and choppers ! F22 , Mig , Su 27 , Apache !
-
Whooo....those look sweet!
Is the helicopter still hard to fly? :(
-
oh sweet mother!
Protojoe now dropped it off.
Install and runnin iwmc!
The single player may run a bit slow cause of the AI using up cpu and ram cycles but the multiplayer will be smoother.
we gonna give it a test run now.
-
the planes and choppers are easier to fly than in the original battlefields.... but i still haven't managed to land one :p , this would be something perfect for the green dot WAN to host a server ... but stickage iwmc .
-
How does this demo handle on your residential tstt dsl?
-
whoa!
The game is sweet! we now run a lan server, didn't even bother to make it dedicated and played smooth. No lag or warping. Zero matrix.
Haven't seen any planes on the map we played though. We did the 16 player version.
Maybe the 32 version opens up those.
Vehicles were easier to fly in Vietnam over BF1942: Desert Combat.
Remember, they were native to the game. This is no different.
lol @ xbox ver. Hoss, I would be VERY surprised if this ever makes it to xbox, given the demanding specs.
This would only be feasable on XBOX 360.
Lucky for me, I've got a powerful PC. lol
suhuweat!!!!!!!!!!
On that note, while it does run on the FX 5200, it ran much better and looked much better on the 6600 GT.
The gameplay is pretty much the same which isn't a bad thing. I really like how flags go up faster if you're doing it with team mates as opposed to Solo. Really encourages team play. Similar to the Onslaught mode of UT2004 where team mates could capture points faster than a lone hero running off half cocked.
The graphics for guys riding shotgun and manning turrets is awesome. Sweet animation for it too. Sound effects are also spot on.
My only gripe, not big enough explosions! Was hoping for some over the top pyro works. That said, they are still an improvement over the predecessor.
Maybe for Battlefield 3: Future Wars.
lol
good game.
Haven't played around with the commander role yet but will soon. The voice feature is enabled but the game started, we didn't use it. We got all the machines with headsets but since we are in the same room, shouting worked just as well. lol
I give it a 9/10
-
have you tried it on a pc with 256 RAM ? how does it play ?
it seems that only the server needs 1 gb / 512 mb of ram , and the rest can be low end pcs .
-
I wouldn't dare.
The load times alone would be death in itself. Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat was already a biatch to load on 256.
Passable on 512
and glorious on 1gb.
Thus far, Battlefield 2 load times are tolerable at 1gb but still noticeable.
We just tested the dedicated server which defaulted to a higher number of players and thus the bigger map layout. Planes and helicopters iwmc!
Still sweating it as I type this.
Session iwmc.
You check out the "heat sinking" anti air craft guns?
-
yea , though the only heat source in the game were the refineries ...
I'v mastered taking off, using up all my missles and crashing into the enemy base whie i parachute down, dice should have made landing / targeting with the aircraft easier , either with markers in the air to show the correct angle to land and auto target , or computer take off/ landing .
i need to sweat this bad , hopefuly i can abuse Pr0wls DSL or green dot will invent a way to transmit data faster than light .......
-
Well targetin was easy.
These guys had one fella flying the plane while another would target and guide the missile after it had been fired.
That way the pilot could focus on keeping them in the air without worrying about targeting at all.
Really cool.
-
Baego I coming dong dey later today hoss... must get meh grubby little hands on dat game jed.......... I hope you opening cuz is SUHUWEAT IWMC :)
-
done know.
We been sweating that till 4AM last night
Chronos,
Xcalibur
Flint
Nemesis
Dchosen1
Crackerjack
Dardura
Angelus
And some mapleleaf fellas who callsigns I forget had take a session too.
De game mad, glad, bad, yuh dad.
The only thing, I ain't dream it last night. Normally, when a game totally wtfpwns, I does dream it.
Starcraft and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War in the dream club.
Maybe when the full game reach, It will enter into such prestigious company.
suhuweat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
This requires a brand new pc cuz i definitely want this in all its glory.
*polishes dogtags*

umm why is this thread in Movietowne and not in the Games section?
-
umm why is this thread in Movietowne and not in the Games section?
Cause its a global announcement. The mods put this so its like a sticky in all forum topics...
-
10 points for Protojoe and some chakra ihmc.
-
INCREDIBLE TALANT - game has me wanting a new grfx card to run it on full specs
it was my 5200 he spoke of, it does run nice on med graphs but a man want to see HEADS FLY
the commander feature is incredible
its like your god
uav's can be launched
fire and forget artillery baragges to suppress enemy movement
and THANK GOD FOR SUPPLY CRATES its like a medic and a support man in a BOX!
-
I have yet to use this Commander feature.
but thanks for the instruction last night, I gonna try it out today!
-
I have yet to use this Commander feature.
but thanks for the instruction last night, I gonna try it out today!
yea the squad leader thing is real cool! drop some artilery on a man mc, watch them pitch....
But, sadly, when your doing that, your really vunaruable to attack...
-
how so?
-
Well, when it is your doing that, you have to operate via the squad leader screen, which is a big screen which blocks your whole view. The game is obviously still in realtime so opposing forces, if they find you, you would pretty much be a sitting duck. So, if your a squad leader, and your abusing your squad leader ablities, either site your arse in a tank, or find a really isolated spot.
-
battlefield have plenty places to hide... crouch down under a coconut tree in the tall grass , crouch behind a building in your base , or just stay your ass at the carrier/ airstrip .
-
boy, we get our asses properly well cut today in BF2.
Who tell me to waste time playing around with the commander feature. lol
It was damn cool though. Air strike idmc. UAV Spy Plane. You could see men walking anywhere on the map. Insane. Nobody could hide.
I haven't looked at my control keys yet but can you "peek"?
Q and E give me other stuff, like communication.
Those were the best candidates for the leaning left to right required for peeking.
Is it in the game? or not at all?
Also wish I could dive roll outta the way of tanks / road hog vehicles!
-
This New Battle Field2 sounding real sick boy.....like they put more Strategy in it to make it more team competitive.....i like these kind of team games besides the normal "runn and gunn".....yes Unreal i mean you.
But is the environment suitable(ie. landscape, vegetation ,grass trees and ting) enough to hide in and camo, so you are not easily spoted when prone?
-
it aint no SOF2....... make way for BF2 the machine killer
-
Well is not only to hide in camo, cause a man like me who playing games like socom and MGS3 for awhile now, my eyes are acustomed to the slightest movement in the background. Where some people would run pass someone who lieing down inthe grass sniping people in the foot as the pass.
But, yea it have alot of places to hide, but with the demo, (all i can play in single player for the while) what I would do is first thing, go stright across to other side and take out the cannons so no more air strike.
-
hoss,
UAVs are the pwnage!!
Serious spy plane iwmc. I kill bout 18 men brisk brisk when I learn how to use that.
As a squad leader, you could request a UAV at your location with the "T" key.
Once the commander deploy that, instant radar iymc. All enemies in a good radius lightin up as big red blips. No more wonderin where the sniper is. Fully exposed.
You can only have one deployed on the map at a time though. So it is best to keep it flying high over the most contentious area, to give your squad a much needed advantage. Eye in the Sky iwmc.
-
lol @ hide in camo
-
Well fellas, I finally get my chopper license.
I could land de mofos now.
Can't do it quickly, but at least I'm not throwing away 120 million tax payer dollars for a one way trip to the battle anymore.
lol
-
me and prowl just spent a few hours with it on dsl.... it RAWKS ! Though it doesn't pack the gameplay of FEAR or counterstrike , the support for vehicles , artillery , tons of players and massive maps makes up for it , though its still a pain sniping with a 50% chance to miss programmed in , i love it !
-

just do like I do, get chopper, fly to undefended flag, hover, get points, fly away.
lol
-
THE FULL GAME IS HERE!!!
/me dives out of a helicopter.
Fellas, if yuh not sweating this...yuh not suhuweatin!!!!!!!!!!
Did I say 9/10?? Let me take that back.
11/10 IDMC!!
And for those of you wondering how the game will perform on your hardware:
-
hmm
-
BF 2 ownz ! i just played for another 2 hours , i learned that you can swim in an APC , i drove on up to the US carrier and blew up all their boats ! Laser guided missles on the choppers and planes is cool but not easy to use , and i find vehicles especially the apache incredibly powerful, a good pilot/gunner combo can rip up an entire base , they should make another class ' Anti Air' who sould have shoulder launched stinger missles to pwn choppers and planes .
-
I can fly mothaf*ckas I can fly !!!
Beware the FOAK chopper of doom!!!
short drop is $2.50 not $2.00 eh!!!
-
lol @ short drop
ent, choppers wtfpwn.
I see crackerjack take a commanche and park it on a man chest yes.
That is talant.
-
only ah man like me could have that skill
-
:ph34r:I am putting out a challenge to all flyers and wannabe flyers battlefield is waiting on you come see if you will servive
-
Fellas,
This is an AMAZIN' piece of madness right here.
The First Battlefield 2 Stunt Video I've seen and mudders, it wtfpwns.
http://maxwendling.free.fr/fichiers/Stunts_of_Oman.rar
40mb
well worth the download.
-
OMFG! THAT VIDEO WAS REAL FUGGIN BAD!!!!!!! OH MY ****!!!!!!!!!
If I ever actually see somebody doing that....I would........I wouldnt know what I would dol......BUT IT WOULD BE RHEAL FRIGGIN BAD!!!
I just wanna know how they get the cars to pitch like that? Did the mess arround with the physics of the game or something?
The badest part was when the run out and was climbing on the friggin plane! THAT WAS BAD!
If you reach this far and aint start to download it yet.....DO IT NOW!
-
one day someone will dedicate there time to trying the stunts on that video i for one have started and failed miserebly
-
they modded the game for the video obviously.....
When we get a local server we'll try out the same stunts , and maybe make a mini series like Red vs Blue.... PNM vs UNC ?
-
yeah
they entered a command that prevented the vehicles from blowing up.
-
Well to further drive the point home, that uber cpu ain't mean jack for the hottest multiplayer game on the planet today, here is a recent benchmark using "yesteryears" cpus vs the latest and greatest offerings in Battlefield 2.
FYI, a 2.8GHZ CPU US$100 - 150.00
A 3.8GHZ is US$850 - 1000.00
That additional US$700.00 gains you 1fps. lol
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST--2147-x-x-x&body_pagenum=4
-
thats mainly cause !ntel sux for gaming , if you compare a 150 USD A64 3000 with a 1000 USD FX 57 you'll notice a big difference , the clock speed difference is 1GHZ .
What happened to the local server? czar has a T1 that can host a 16 man game if no one in the company watches Nr0p at the same time , the dedicated server software is free to download . Or maybe if green dot hurry's up we can get a local server with 30-40 ping and can probably host 64 people .
-
lol I wish that was true boy trini.
The same test was done with AMD processors as well.
Same result. About 2 fps more. From the 3000+ to 4000+ AMD line.
We have to face the reality. Processor power just is not a major factor with the majority of our games at any reasonable resolution.
A title has to use major AI and physics to warrant any strain on even yesteryears cpus.
-
hmmmmmmmmmm
