Title: PSP for dummies
Post by: Red Paradox on November 08, 2006, 09:13:43 AM
Hi my name is Flip and I'm new to this sorta thing.
My dad is sending me a PSP and I want to be hyped..... however....what should I really expect....I mean are there any disappointments, glitches and stuff like that.
If any of you guys have a PSP, give me some feedback on the system, like what to expect and stuff like that...Thank you

i'll be honest with you guy, your dad hates you, i mean why else would he send yo ua PsP ans not a DS lite?

lol

okay all kicks aside there are a handful of games for the PSP that make sense owning imo.

Megaman Maverick Hunter X- this is basically megaman X totally retooled for the PSP hardware, really pretty and engaging gameplay
Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins- again another classic retooled to take advantage of the hardware, but i think it's cool all the same.
Socom Fire team bravo- i always liked the SOCOM series and since it is Son't premiere online shooter it makesp erfect sense that the PSP version should be somewhat cool
GTA- the grand theft auto games are being redone for the PSP with added content and vehicles, yeah we have been there before but why not drive through Vice City onme more time just for fun?
......

can't think of anymore pSP games that i would care to play much less own.

but with respect to the hardware itself, the battery life sucks rectum, don't expect to be able to play your psp on a drive to Toco and back.
the button closest to the screen (either square or triangle) normally is a little less sensitive than the others.
um actually, he asked me what I wanted for christmas and I told him I wanted a PSP and "other stuff"
I'm just a SONY fan to the end.

a PSP is for people who dont have time to play PS2 games. The "on the go, too busy traveling around to play PS2" kinda ppl. a VERY small target group of gamers. The "sit on the buss for a 2 hour ride" for the MOST, which doesnt exist in Trinidad. Unless you want it robbed from the man sitting next to you on the maxi. When you buy it you will see for yourself. All PS2 ports, with about 1 or 2 being originals and not even nearly worth the price.

SONY fan till i die? this not football dread. they dont "get a good team and come back" when they out they out. And SONY may not be out, but they deffinitely being handed their hat. They have become too complacent, and it shows. Even as an Advisor and Analyst for SONY i saying this. Their marketing and advertising acting like they fighting each other. Ridiculous.

Can anyone suggest where can i find a PSP to buy?
I jus came fromt the mall (gulf)and all of them were sellin over $2400 basic without nada..it had one selling for $2800...ridiculous
It  had a store in POS sellin one basic for $1900 and a free UMD movie of your choice from an impressive collection which they sell normally for $200 which is pretty decent...de rest of stores was over $2100+
Please guide me towards a reputable store that has a reasonable price.....

even though it's a late reply flip, they're numerous things you can do with the psp for music, photos (and camera if you buy the accesory) and also movies.  for movies you have two choices, depending on how big the memory stick is (1 gig should be good enough), you can either buy the umd's or if u got a 1 gig u can simply use a program to reformat videos it to mpeg4 format with a completly free and legal program, you can even convert normal net clips.

personally i'm a kinda anime fan so normally i would put a couple manga's straight to my psp along with a few anime episodes that have been converted to the format.  whenever i'm on the bus or just cant sleep or such i just pull it out and read a lil or watch something.  for gaming i don't really do much, and i agree with some ppl who say the psp is more like a portable media player than an actual handheld, but they are indeed a handful of good games available as well as soon to be.

Tekken Dark Resurection - Fighter
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror - Stealth/action
Daxter - platformer
wipeout pure - racer
Lumines - puzzle (similiar to tetris in a sense
Killzone: liberation - Shooter (3rd person)
Ridge Racer - racer
Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Fighter
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
The GTA Series
The Socom series

as for upcoming titles there's a few that i'm sorta interested in but only 2 that i am truly looking forward to
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Final Fantsy 7: Crisis Core

both are prequels to the console games and hopefully the guys behind it will make them into instant psp classics

I finally got my hands on one......I must say it's a quality product.....Even if i didnt like games i wud still buy this
Like greyfox i doing other things than gaming which is not bad by all means....
I have some chappelle episodes on it and every now an again i wip it out and have a laugh
The picture/video quality is crisp an HD which was the major thing that stood out for me.
I wud recommend something over 32MB Mem DUO tho but that still can do wonders if u have one.
The playing games on the other hand is very solid once u get over the learning curve of the PSP button layout.

...and that is good talk about that MGS portable Ops ,i wah that bad, that and FF7 and FIFA07

BTW does anyone know where there is internet hotspots in POS?

as for FF7 crisis core.. even though i wouldl ike to know more about Zack's story, i am kinda tired of SE jamming FF7 spin offs down my throat.

Same here, UNLESS it involves just Tifa, Aerith and Yuffie and a hot shower scene. But I digress.

To me, the staple titles you should get if you have a PSP are:

- Grand Theft Auto (Vice City Stories or Liberty City Stories);
- Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
- Tekken: Dark Resurrection
- Valkyrie Profile

Crisis Core has me intrigued, I'll admit, and Mortal Kombat: Unchained is coming out soon for the PSP.
You should definitely keep an eye peeled for those two.

On a side note, avoid like the plague Street Fighter Alpha 3: MAX. Unless you have the D-Pad snap on, the PSP controls are HORRIBLE. To be more blunt, though, don't go buying ANY fighting game that requires you to wring a magic, without the snap-on, cause 80% of the time, you WON'T GET IT. One of my biggest gripes with the system right now.

What's the estimated price for a PSP D-Pad

Ah, that's a very good question.

So far, the only way I know to get one is to pre-order the Street Fighter Alpha 3:MAX, and that's expired by now.

I wish I knew where to get one, though. =(

i already had the dpad attachemnt thing on my psp when i played SF3 so i had not experienced anything bad with it at all, and for SE and ff7, i mean what do u expect? any gaming company wants to be succesful and when they do have a major hit like ff7 of course they'll want to cash into it.  advent children was nice. the only thing that wasn't that great was that Dirge of Cerberus, only because they tried a change to a complete shooter.  maybe they shouldn't have done that.  but if any other final fantasy games gains success and fame like ff7 u can expect the same.  but of course i am also biased with my opinion because i'm already a fan of the series.

mortal kombat is out for the psp though, but i haven't personally played it, it got decent reviews and such but never anything equal to or above deception.  too bad though i was sorta interested in it.

Okay I went on amazon and I still didn't see the price for a PSP d-pad....however if you type in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max...some guy in the comments section said that, you can get the pad from the capcom official website....So that's hope for me!
