Gamers still mulling their options following the unveiling of cool new consoles from Nintendo and Sony at the recent E3 2006 conference might want to take a closer look at the Wii, given that Nintendo has formally priced the machine well below the competing boxes.
The price, $250, is half the cost of Sony's $499 PlayStation 3 console and considerably less than Microsoft's top-end
Xbox 360 that sells for about $400.
Nintendo has set its sights on shipping six million Wii systems worldwide between its launch later this year and the end of March 2007. The company also said it expects to sell 17 million Wii games during that period.
The lower price tag could help the company gain some ground on Microsoft, which effectively is a year ahead of both Nintendo and Sony in introducing the Xbox 360 late last year

what a wierd news article. they price the 360 Premium but the PS3 base system.
But i really like their six million dollar shipping plan. They will sell well since a PS3 is going to be next to impossible to get.
-
Dread I just read that in a recent poll from a well known Japanese gaming mag, that 80% of japanese gamers will go for the Wii over any other console. Take that and smoke it MS and Sony. Innovation to save us God willing.
-
Release DATE ??????
-
So, we're looking at an early November release for the system. This falls quite nicely in line with a recent announcement by Nintendo where they gave dates for their DS, GameCube and GBA titles for later this year. All titles stopped before November. With this information in hand, we pushed our source a bit further to see if they had an idea of a more exact date. Today, we were provided with the following information...
"So, at the moment Nintendo are aiming to launch the Wii on November 6th"
Our source emphasised that this date is correct at present, but pointed out: "Nintendo aren't going to have an exact date in mind until they are sure they can meet the deadlines". Take it as a guide then if you will, but "they are very keen to be ready in time".
Obviously this shouldn't be taken as gospel and we're not about to shout from rooftops that we have the final Wii launch date, but we are confident that the information we have is correct;

not official, though..
-
Actually it's 70%, I saw that as well but the point remains that the Wii will dominate in Japan, causing sony to lose some base, well I would include Microsoft in that statement but they have no ground in Japan what so ever. In America though, this price should encourage its sale just as they did with the DS being half the price of the PSP.
Nintendo's strategy is definetly a good one. Build a system thats innovative and be able to build it at a low cost and enter the market with far cheaper prices than the competitors! Worked for the DS and I am sure it will work for the Wii.
Nintendo even has Microsoft's support as shown on the E3 coverage on G4.
-
Nintendo's market niche is geared towards the people that dont play games, and untapped market. Brilliant. The price, although comming after, is a huge reason to appeal to any kind of gamer. Nintendo has always appealed to parents who buy consoles for their kids at christmas, which explains why they still own 10% of the childrens market in gaming, which is a lot...A LOT.
Very well done, a bold move that pays off. the DS may have just been the test for the waters.
-
I knew they wouldnt let us down with the price. I wonder how much the actual games would cost, and if any are included with the system at purchase?
-
I don't think it will be long after the first release of it that they start bundling just like they did with previous systems,
on a related note,
i was sceptical about the controller but after the stuff i saw on E3, that mad! just MAD! i real looking forward to owning one.
-
I agree. The control had me wary, but when I saw what it could do, it blew me back some.
I just wish it could be more compatible for fighting games, though.
Don't wanna think that I'd have to go around whipping my Wii to toss a magic.
-
although it's at a decent price there are only so much games that would keep you playin it . and besides ppl u know better than to buy a first gen system. they always have some technical problems.oh the supposed reason for the delay was to stock up on the amount in stock for the thanksgiving weekend. but do u really believe that bs ? u really think they gonna say they had a problem ?and what system u have at home.. not at gatt but in your house ?
-
i digg wha u sayin about first gen...
but to be quite honest.. has anyone ever had first gen nintendo probs??
i rem MS , sony, sega etc havin probs..... but apart from redesign of the form factor.. i cah remember hearin about the big N bein at fault
( i could be wrong, eh.. and i welcome correction)
-
nintendos products dont get recalled cause of faultyness
for gods sake, the cube can be dropped off a roof and still play!! it was made kiddy proof, de Ns know what they doin.
and further more phats you n00b
yu sayin crap like men will loose interest with their wii cause nintendos products dont keep yur attention??
HOSS
IN GATT HQ, THE GAME CUBE IS NEVERRR OFF, IT NEVER STOPS PLAYIN!! WHYYYY
BECAUSE IT HAS BOSS ASS GAMES LIKE NARUTO!! WHICH MEN WILL NOTTT STOPPP PLAYINNNN
-
ok boss ya soundin vex relax nah .. but rem the cube launch it did get postponed and i have the naruto game but there's so much u can play that and smash and their controllers real is real crap who could tell me their original controller from their system still good all the controllers mash up real fast. and real plenty of the lids stick and no i not careless it happens to real ppl. and who controller they try to imitate? not the ps controller?
-
talkin out yur ass i can see
first off, they eh imitate no one controller, since the ps controller is a modified Super nintendo controller, and we all know that the ps was intended originally to be an add on for the snes now dont we.
Second, the controllers in gatt hq are just fine and we sweat much more than yu possibly could
thirdly
you remember why the cube launch was postponed?????
Ill give yu a hint, Nintendo game cube release date was September 11th. Do the math
-
boss you could tell me you look at the cube controller and tell me cube didn't try to make their's like the ps? and how old them controllers are?
-
pHats....plz use modify instead of posting so much times
-
boss you could tell me you look at the cube controller and tell me cube didn't try to make their's like the ps? and how old them controllers are?
never....ever ever ever....try to compare the likings on a Nintendo controler to another.
its Nintendo's ANALOG STICK for the N64 that MADE Playstation MAKE Analog sticks for the PSOne...AS WELL AS NINTENDO and their rumble feature.....AND Nintendo and their SHOULDER BUTTON FEATURE. which was on the SNES.
What the hell is this i hearing.....copy the PS controler? THey BLATANTLY copy Nintendo's...they doing it AGAIN...with a half @ss gyro thing that everyone want to know what it there for.
you making a REAL mistake dissing Nintendo youth. A company that does NOT rely on ANY third party companies to sell their console....they make their own games, they make thier own console and THAT is what people buy it for. They dont rely on Square, or Konami or Rockstar (who just drop their exclusivity with SONY mind you). their goal with the Wii is not for young SONY gamers like you....you all SO EASY to chain up. Their target niche is the people who DONT play games and the vets who looking for something inovative..
You could do that? Tap into a market that SONY and Microsoft on their BEST day.....with angles in the heavens and demons from hell on their side..could STILL not think of doing.
Nintendo Wii drop this after PS3 said "Play Beyond" and "the next generation starts when we say it starts"
Nintendo watch them - Well den pallie...we go just hit the reset button....lewee see what you go do then.
-
yea phat edit yuh post please ..
and btw
i have all 3 consoles and a x360 atm
getting a wii and a ps3 to ..
sony fan boy >_> ..u have a problem
/me holds the 2x4 with lvl 4 nail litely
-
actually, phats.. seein that the launch in jap was relatively smooth, i'll buy their reason.. and even if they DID find a problem before the actual release that caused them to delay a few weeks , i much rather that they do that.. than pass on a half baked console to their early adopters
( like everyone else does... ..the ps2s with the lens problems, the 360 with the power brick shortin out.. the dc had some heat issues as well)
what about the cube controller mimics sony dual shock? analog sticks? as crixx pointed out, compare the playstation's control to the snes control, which predates it by quite a bit
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/24/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System-USA.jpg/250px-Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System-USA.jpg)
just graft two upside down horn on the snes control, and slap on a sony logo
with regards to controllers, thas a fact of life, with regards to all systems.. i've had to repair first party sony and sega.. is just a fact of life when you mashin buttons.. yeh they designed to take licks, but is a mechanical part, and mechanical parts do wear out
-
360 power brick not shorting out no more...we in 2nd Generation of the 360.
-
360 power brick not shorting out no more...we in 2nd Generation of the 360.
yeh i know it got sorted out, but i was referrin to nintendo's track record of having great quality control with their first gen systems, as compared to other companies
-
yeah srry for the multiple posts fellas i didn't realise i could mod it
-

The first gen cube had some serioous lens problems. Thats the reason for the platinum cube. The black and purple cubes (of course not all) had a lens read issue and used to have trouble reading discs..talking about this first had. Bought a black gamecube and it gave out the first day.....good thing i could have returned it and I got a Platinum....those are just fine.
-
[Bought a black gamecube and it gave out the first day.....good thing i could have returned it and I got a Platinum....those are just fine.
NOw imagine if u had no warranty.....thats scary
-
wasn't aware of the lens problem ( as i said, was open to correction)
boy warranty does save yuh life yes ( or the life of a sales clerk , if yuh had to beat him on his head with the cube..lol)
-
thank you empire king see fellas i tell ya the cube had it's first gen problems and ppl i won't call names was bashing me for talkin the truth.
-
everyone is free to there opinion here eh
but sigh .. -_-
-
for real. "people say..." and "everybody say....." and "my padna tell me that the 360/Wii/PS3 is crap...." dont mean jack $hit. Is n00b fanboy talk and dont feel the industry knows this..the systems STILL going to sell.
-
Only a man who never own ANY Nintendo could talk tha mess. I've had better gaming moments on Nintendo's consoles than any other. Goldeneye 64 anyone?
-
Square defined the turn based RPG on the snes and nintendo bought FPS to the masses with Goldeneye . Nintendo was the one that broke the atari monopoly so long ago and killed the company almost single handedly ... who is you to say nintendo is sh!t ?
The only major bad decisions nintendo made were with the media on the N64 and gamecube, the N64 was probably more than three times as fast as the PSX cpu and graphics wise , and had a little more ram , but it couldn't put that power to use with only 64mb of storage on catridges vs 600mbs on a Sony cd . Sony kept up just fine with pre rendered 2d and 3d images and cinematics...
The second bad decision was pushing the gamecube as a ''games only'' machine with no support for DVD or music cd playback .. Of course this helped prevent piracy , but imo it lost nintendo alot of their market to the Xbox and PS2 which were bieng pushed as all-in-one media centres ...
-
Yep for certain. I hope they learned from that. Of course allot of the games that Nintendo make sell VERY well in Japan as well. Dont forget you RENT games in Japan....its illegal. you HAVE to buy them. Their anti piracy measure was to ensure this. Thye have few games compared to Playstation but they are QUALITY titles. I hope they learned from that though...they could have done better if the system was easier to modify...lets face it, How much ppl you know have a modded PS2 compared to those that dont?
-
Maybe an early launch for the Wii (rejoice all ye who believe in innovation):
Nintendo may have an early Wii
Up at dawn
By Nick Farrell: Thursday 06 July 2006, 07:58
NINTENDO is considering releasing its Wii console a bit earlier to steal a march on the PlayStation 3.
CNN claims that Nintendo has not made any formal announcements about the launch date for the Wii, but most expected a date around November 17 which is when the PS3 will hit the shops.
Now it seems that deep throats inside Nintendo are hinting that the machine will see the light of day in September.
PJ McNealy of American Technology Research claims that the outfit appears to be already manufacturing final retail units of the Wii.
If this is the case, then it could be bad news for the PS3. Although the Wii might come out with less functionality, it will be released a heck of a lot cheaper than the PS3.
If it makes the shops first, it could kill off any potential inroads the PS3 might make. Both of them have to compete with a now entrenched XBox 360.
Releasing the gear in October will also make sure that Nintendo will have enough machines in the shops in time for Yule as any weaknesses in its distribution will have had more time to be found and fixed.
-
thats bummy.......August wud be just fine for me
-
Grr....Wii...or...laptop.....AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Guess I really have to do some solid teaching soon :P.
-
I don't think this will help, but he needs all the help he can get:
Nintendo gives George W. Bush brain training
You will think our way
By Nick Farrell: Friday 07 July 2006, 08:06
GAMES CONSOLE outfit Nintendo is sending President Bush a copy of its brain training software Brain Age and a DS Lite to play it on for his birthday.
According to the gaming blog, Freeplay, the gift has been sent to the President to celebrate his 60th Birthday. The pres for the prez comes with a note which says that like many baby boomers Bush might be looking for ways to keep his mind sharp.
"You now join millions of people around the world who have fun challenging themselves with Brain Age. If you have never played a video game before, don't worry. Brain Age is part of our new Touch Generations brand, which includes games that are easy for people of any age - regardless of their video game experience - to pick up and start playing immediately."
The letter claims that just a few minutes a day with more than 15 daily training tests will help keep Bush's mind sharp.
-
imagine this scenario he is given a choice to join foreign allies n stop all war vs kill bin / saddam
lol
-
They said to keep him sharp NOT distract and confuse him :p
-
This defines awesome! Defintely an experience I want to have with my Wii :)
Very wierd that there is no plans yet for a PC version since many people play it online.
-
Yeah, but as we all know a pc is not the only way you can get to play online, however....COD got famous on the pc how they gonna drop the pc ball like that. Besides, its a FPS damn it this should be on the pc FIRST before any console.
-
that setup looks great if your playing CoD 3: Duck Hunt edition.
I'd like to see either of those guys do a circle strafe and shoot. lol
-
Well Baego the way I see it, you use the remote to control where you look and the analog attachment to move. Now if you think of it that way, then pushing up on the analog will move you forward, down==back, left==left strafe, right==right strafe. It's pretty much like a keyboard and mouse, save you can aim that much better (if yu have nice big screen of course). Strafing and aiming would be all too easy in fact. With any luck, if yuh duck you'll crouch on the screen too, and if yuh go prone fuh real, well yuh get the idea. I think this methodology would work well... not to mention be a blast to play, although you'll look like an idiot if someone eh know what yuh doing LOL. Maybe the Wii will revolutionise the FPS.
As for the no PC thing... that just down right SUCKS B@LL$ and @$$!!!! but I think I know where they coming from. It's MUCH harder to crack a game on a console. Well it's near impossible, what you do is crack the console to run burnt games. So if yuh think about it, they stand to lose less money in pirating on the consoles. Couple that with the fact that the consoles are running on IBM tech aka PowerPC derivatives and the cell (also has PowerPC tech inside). So it's not X86 and thus not a simple port from PC to console as it was in the past. THey are probably looking at the big picture, which is sales. Now I know ppl will argue that the PC has it's loyal fan base etc. True, and ppl might argue that all they have to do is use something like Steam...YUCK.... but true, but then just the same, yuh could prolly dowload COD3 direct 2 drive using Xbox live so really and truly, unfortunately... there is little reason (yet) to release the PC version. Maybe after a few months. Also they prolly have some agreement with MS, Sony and Nintendo to release the game on the consoles to boost their sales. It's not like the PC needs THAT much boost (though it's on the decline).
-
ANalog stick to move yes. Worked with everything from Zelda to Mario to Metroid. Will work for this.
-
if they want to prevent piracy on the PC, they can use starforce 4. Haven't seen that cracked yet.
As for the circle strafing with those wii controllers, seeing/playing is believing.
Will get one (for [X]-Jin of course) and try that out.
-
Didn't Shiv play it at E3??? what more proof of concept do you want?
-
ummmmm i read the article thingy
and umm. i see no reason why the mc game isnt on pc
they revamp the multiplayer and then DONT BRING IT TO PC????? WTF???
I MEAN PC GAMERS LIVE FOR MP!!
and cod mp is amongst our favy!!! why would they do this to us!! sooo stupid!!
THE LAST GOOD MP FPS ON A CONSOLE WITH A CONSOLE CONTROLLER WAS FREAKIN GOLDEN EYE 64
omg did i say last? i meant ONLYYY!!!! FPS BELONGS ON PC!!
-

True bout PC, complete and utter @ss about Goldeneye64 being the only...just because it OLD people think it better. Because it is the first...it doesnt mean its the best.
-
All of those are much more comfortably played with keyboard and mouse on the PC imo.
Without need for noob controller compensation.
So where as you could get a better COD experience on the PC easily with 8 PCs on a LAN and everyone sporting keyboard and mouse...you could only sweat Golden Eye on your N64 console, with split screen to boot (yet still loved it....even though doom/quake was available on your PC)
That is what makes the game stand out!
I'm a big Halo2 fan (xbox exclusive) but would still quickly concede that the keyboard and mouse is better. Play it using a converter to boot.
Now that said, people like Xen Spartan have achieved AMAZING proficiency at FPS on the console with the controllers. So I'm not gonna say the thing isn't workable. It sure as hell is.
So don't get the wrong idea. I hope that Nintendo / the COD developers find a way to make those crazy controllers kick ass at FPS just that I can't see how.
The acid test is when it is in our grubby little hands.
W1ntry, I don't think Shivadee tested COD3 at E3 but correct me if wrong. no scene.
-
Nope didnt play it. They had it for testing but you had to sign up for the LAN game which meant waiting, which i didnt have time for. I did test Red Steel though, and alyuh men have nothing to worry about from the demo i played. The control is tight and sensitive, not laggy atall. VERY responsive.
I would not say i dont think, i am saying it is certain that HALO 2 is NOT designed for PC. They release HALO on PC for money (is Microsoft)..same reason for HALO 2. And it is quite clear that HALO and HALO 2 will not be the most played games on PC. The game is too slow for PC mouse/kb standards, h3ll even FPS PC standards. The game was specifically made with the XBOX controler and only the XBOX controler in mind. BXR and BXB mele attack is quite simply made for the controler. All FPS games now that come out for that platform are compared to the HALO 2 control scheme. I would go even FURTHER and say that fans of HALO 2 have problem playing and sometimes even CARING about a game that f*cks up their rhythm of how they play on LIVE with HALO 2, because of the controler. now HOW you going to convince all these people on LIVE that love HALO 2 just as it is? with words? dread that not goin to work. It is set is stone, that game meant for XBOX. Is like PC getting the emulator...it works fine, looks better....but is not the same atall. A different experience. and because of that said different experience, that game will never be noticed on the PC.
Now we had this controler argument many times before. the mouse/kb IS THE ultimate combo for FPS SAVE HALO 2, and for the sake of this thread I cannot understand why COD 3 is console only...but hold strain with HALO 2. I may not be as good as Xen atall, but i guarantee it have men out there far better in the MLG league that have perfected that controler better than any man on a keyboard can, but ONLY for HALO 2, nothing else. One of the guys in my class is in the league, has full sponsorship to HALO 2 tourneys in the US, rakes in 25 grand a year....he changes his name regular....but usually on LIVE he goes by Retro. MLG rules for HALO 2, most importantly....no Elites (melon heads), no mouse/kb.
Personally i welcome the inovation. I love consoles, i love PC's..but for me the inovation lies in the Wii and the PC. The PS3 and 360 are satisfying the general gamer market, out to make money with generic games. LAN parties on PC's are the best actually. However, personally speaking, i could never go to a cafe and LAN all night and enjoy myself like i could at home with 4 TV's, 4XBOX"s and 16 padnas. A PC LAN, PROPERLY set up at someone's house is the absolute bomb, and i only had the pleasure of that happening in Trini ONCE.
1. Not everyone has the money to build a gaming PC
2. It is just much easier to organise a console sweat, anywhere actually, it doesnt have to be in a gaming cafe. Everybody have a TV, and it much easier to get an XBOX controler borrow or even a console than a whole gaming PC (if you dont have one)...again, personally i hate playing in gaming cafe's.
Bottom line.....its the price you pay for Ultimate FPS gaming...and most people cannot afford it. Its true... high level (not just regular) PC gamers are l33t. However i dont consider someone's opinion on anything with game inovation (like this COD3 on the Wii) when they restrict themselves to one console or platform. They restrict and end up stagnating themselves to that platform. Its fine for someone who just likes to play games, of course...its all about preference and fun. But i simply cannot care to listen to someone who is attempting to lecture me on a console or games inovation in such a restricted state....atall, worse yet if they under the delusion that their single preference is better BECAUSE simply put when it comes to inovation there is no BETTER platform..its just better games, and we not only talking about the Wii. I am not an RPG fan , but you see me blazing WoW tail. When a game good it just good, wah you go do? i dont restrict myself to anything...if a game good i playing it. That is game;s and i love pleasant surprises.
I am sure the COD 3 on the Wii will not match the graphics of the 360 or the PS3, but i am sure it is going to be hella more entertaining.
-
whoa....what a rant.
I hope that was not directed at me Shiv because you know I own all the consoles (previous generation and those before that) as well as a gaming PC.
My opinion comes with a real appreciation of both sides of the fence. Take it from a man who plays street fighter on a PS2 with a Sega Genesis controller! (seriously)
Well let me not run off topic too much here.....glad to hear that the Wii controller was very responsive because that was the #1 concern.
From the exposure, do you think it would match the xbox controller in terms of competitive FPS action? Or is it only gonna accomodate a Duck Hunt type, moms and pops FPS play style?
-
Na not at u B. On one side you killing Titan Quest, then Naruto Gekito 4 then is HALO 2 then Tekken. And I do notice that any game that is out, whatever the genre, if you hear it good, well yuh hadda check it out. There are people on the forum who prefer a certain genre, play competitively (or want to) and that is fine. However for myself I am always open to ideas, from anyone, the casual gamer to the hardcore. However, I simply cant take someone seriously who tries to say "i want to make a game for everyone to play" or "in my game you can do anything" - what....a crock....of sh!t. You do tend to hear these statements from those that play certain styles of games (TEND to..not always). However i have NEVER really heard a stupid statement from someone who says "to #ss with fanboyism" i go play everything, and i think maybee........ . Those people i tend to listen to more. Ignorance is simply stagnation of inovation.
The Wii is specifically directed to the crowd of veteran gamers and the people that dont play games. In all the Wii advertisments the chracacteristics of the gamer you see are not of the "hardcore" type. so no, it isnt for hardcore gamers. Honestly i think its a brilliant move. Competitive.....i am not certain offhand that nintendo even has or ever HAD pro competitiveness in mind....with any of their games. In every single Miyamoto interview he says "I want it to be fun", same with some of the other producers at Nintendo Takashi Tezuka (who helped in Sunshine and Zelda as producer) , Ryoichi Kitanishi who helped produce 1000 year old door. All this is inovation, However we do know that gamers MAKE the game competitive, even though its not. Its like a secondary function of a game that is targeted to a certain crowd.
How much ppl you know play Konga Beat competitively....but there are some out there. But more than likely people who like that game just love it because it is.....FUN TO PLAY....again what the boss himself said.
HOWEVER, Ubisoft and Red Steel, Activision and COD3, well these are 3rd party companies. Of course Nintendo would like their 3rd party support, but we all know....they dont NEED it, it is nice to have though of course. If their aim is for competition or not, well can only guess. I would imagine so though. COD is a competion level game, and Activision has more experience than ALL of us put together to know what the h3ll it is they are doing.
Personally i think its competition only in a loose sense, like a sweat. But you know gamers today.......they make competition out of rolling roti if they could.
-
lol @ rolling roti.
perfect answer.
So we not expecting any major league CoD 3 Wii tournaments anytime soon with big cash prizes. That verocity will remain on the PC / XBOX side of the fence.
Nothing wrong with that.
Nintendo has, as you said, always taken the fun route. Respect 'em for it.
They do manage to slip out a few fiercely competitive titles once in a while (kart racing, tennis, etc...) but still more on the fun side.
-
-Each person wants to believe they are a hardcore gamer, or ultimate gamer...or a wtf ever gamer. A harcore gamer could consider themselves from someone who plays plenty games, to someone who playes only one genre of game. You can be someone who runs a game like Tekken into the ground and loves it, learning combos, attack styles and such. then you can be considered to be hardcore by others as someone who just plays alot of games. However, usually those that consider them hardcore gamers, usually dont play much games themselves and so would obviously think you are hardcore. Of course you can also play games of any kind day and night or whenever you can and be hardcore...any genre....once the game good. Its a broad spectrum. Thats why games have target niches all the time, so do platforms.
-Nope the platform of choice does not mattter. You can be a hardcore Zelda or mario fan as MANY people are, and be hardcore.
-Not necessarily picking up and playing. Someone can pickup and play a game like Tekken and have fun, and not learn half the moves in the game, same for HALO 2 in a LAN party, same for a game like Mario Kart.
-Right now they may be. But the Wii is something that has everyones attention and this is simply because its inovative. Inovation always redifines something, a genre, a game and ....in this case the kind of gamer.
You can also go into detail....describing the games you find people gaming for 10 years and comparing it to the people playing 10+ years....Usually the "vetteran" gamers who have started on the NES and some before tend to spot a game being generic a mile away. Others who started in the mid SNES and PSOne days....they have plenty to learn. What they seing is glitzy rehashed games, and we all know this....some of them work, others dont. After meeting quite a few ppl in the industry, it is very clear vetteran gamers themselves know more about games than most of them.
Playing Lost Planet i spoke to the developer about its similarities to THE THING that came out early in the PS2/XBOX/GCN era. HE dindt even know what the hell i was talking about...so that game, although it seems great....does have remnants of THE THING. Especially the susceptibility to cold. That is one example....there were others...some of these people, fellas we better off in their place. They dont even want to be there...is liek is a job they just get.
on a side note (ADD kicking in) OMG.....i just watched the Knight Rider vs KARR episode.....yes yes i am getting it and yes Laertes yuh getting a copy. and yes anyone else that want one can get a copy when i come home later next month LOL
COD from E3

Wii console specs unveiled
Wii leaks trickle out
By Dean Pullen: Tuesday 01 August 2006, 09:43
THE NINTENDO WII has always appeared to be a souped-up Gamecube, and the latest alleged specs from a Wii developer seem to support this further.
Leaked specs via Max Console and further discussion from Spong give us a very good understanding of what's going to appear in our Wii. Below is a synopsis of the information given to the news sites by the various industry insiders.
CPU (Broadway)
Superscalar microprocessor with six execution units (floating-point unit, branching unit, system register unit, load/store unit, two integer units)
Operating speed of 729 MHz
Bus to main memory: 243 MHz, 64 bits (maximum bandwidth: 1.9 gigabytes/sec)
32-kilobyte 8-way set-associative L1 data cache (can set up 16-kilobyte data scratch pad)
Onboard 256-kilobyte 2-way set-associative L2 integrated cache
Supports three L2 cache fetch modes: 32, 64, and 128-Byte
DMA unit (15-entry DMA request queue) used by 16-kilobyte data scratch pad
Write-gather buffer for writing graphics command lists to the graphics chip
GPU (Hollywood )
Operating speed of 243 MHz
3 megabytes of embedded graphics memory
24 megabytes of internal main memory
Internal main memory operates at 486 MHz
Maximum bandwidth between GPU and main memory: 3.9 gigabytes per second
The GPU of the Wii is identical to the GC's but it is on average 1.5X faster
Other details
64megabytes of GDDR3 external main memory
Internal non-removable 512MB flash memory used as storage for game save data and downloadable content
The following interfaces are included with the Wii: SD card slot, Wireless controller, two USB 2.0 ports, wireless LAN, 4x GC controller ports, 2x GC memory card slots and an AV multi output jack (analogue only)
Two main disc types supported the single sided 12cm single sided 4.7gb and the double sided 8.51 GB. Nintendo GC discs also supported. The maximum read speed is the equivalent of a 6 speed DVD
Interesting stuff, but it only confirms what was originally known - the Wii is a vast under performer compared to the likes of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo are attempting to differentiate the Wii with its remote-control-esque controllers and unique games, and hoping its expected UK price tag of £149.99 will enamour games kiddies, young and old. µ

Does anyone know which companies are going to release games for the Virtual Console? So far, I have heard of just Nintendo and Sega officially. Granted, that is already a ton of games but I would like to hear some notables like Square, Konami, Capcom, etc. I wonder also if the experience of playing those games on the Wii will be as good as playing them on the original consoles. I mean, there really is nothing quite like picking up a NES controller and playing Super Mario Bros. or a Genesis controller and playing Sonic. I have an internal debate on whether I should re-purchase an old console just to play those couple games every so often or just download them on the Wii. Ebay doesn't help that situation. Yes, I know about emulation and I have probably every game ever released but it just isn't the same.

Screen Shots here of Ubi Soft Titles coming to Wii. Graphics are subpar for Next Gen in my opinion. But then again, gameplay should be fun.

Update:
First Wii CPUs shipped
Wii lies down on Broadway
By Nick Farrell: Friday 08 September 2006, 15:15
BIGGISH BLUE said that it has sent off the first Broadway CPUs which are to be installed in the Nintendo Wii.
IBM is producing millions of fully tested, Power Architecture-based chips featuring IBM Silicon on Insulator technology at 90 nanometres. This is supposed to give the Wii a 20 per cent reduction in energy consumption and a boost in power over IBM’s previous Gekko chip.
A spokesNintendo has confirmed that the outfit now has the chips and will start sticking them under the bonnet of the Wii right away.

Wii Release Date Announcement Due Soon
Nintendo will be holding press events in Europe, Japan and America right before TGS.
By Li C. Kuo | Sept. 1, 2006
It looks like we'll soon learn the official launch date and price point for Nintendo's snazzy new Wii console. The Japanese newspaper Kabushiki Shimbun is reporting that Nintendo will be holding press events in Japan and America on September 14 and in Europe on September 15. The article predicts that Nintendo will use the events to announce pricing and release information, as well as to show off region-specific products. This press event takes place a week before the Tokyo Game Show, which Nintendo traditionally does not attend. Thanks to our brothers in arms at IGN for the heads-up.

Well I was unsure if to put this in the PS3 thread or this one, but I figured if I did the fanboys would get their panties all in a twist, so considering its a good forecast for the Wii I think its fine being here. Have a read:
Retailers expect PS3 to get the Wii kicked out of it
Now is the winter of our discount tents
By Nick Farrell: Monday 02 October 2006, 16:20
RETAILERS HAVE
given the thumbs down to the PS3 and are expecting the Sony console to be soundly beaten up by Nintendo's Wii.
A survey of retailers conducted by the Japanese media outfit Enterbrain shows that 88 percent think that the Wii will sell better over the Christmas break, only 11 percent believe the PS3 will be tops. Since this is a Japanese survey they didn’t even bother asking if they thought the Xbox 360 would go anywhere.
Out of all hardware sales, 60.7 percent Nintendo DS would be the best seller, followed by the the Nintendo Wii at 32.8 percent. The PS3 would be outclassed by the PS2 at 3.3 percent. The PS3 and the Xbox360 will have 1.6 percent each, which shows how bad it is going to get for Sony in Japan.
More here (http://www.nintendorevolution.ca/10012006/01/poll_nintendo_wii_will_crush_ps3_this_holiday).
-
I don't really see your comparison laetes... the article says they suspect the PS3 will NOT do well citing a host of issues (unless you're reffering to the link in the article which I didn't read). And that the Wii would do better... I not sure how you made a comparison of how the DS was techwise inferior and was propsed to not do as well as it does... kinda reverse.. the PS3 is superior techwise but the Wii is cheaper, more innovative and is just plain different and they suspect it will do better regardless...
-
oh gosh boy the tech part was merely an example, i am saying that pre season 'opinions' which is all that anyone has right now really don't say squat. don't compare the example, focus on the point.
Gotcha... should say so in the first place lol.... I still think the Wii is gonna rock the PS3 world...

Talk about a White Christmas.
Wii production exceeding expectations
Posted Oct 5th 2006 11:45AM by Christopher Grant
Briefing.com reports (subscription only) that, according to UBS, 2 million Wii consoles were completed in Q3 (July-September) to support Nintendo's upcoming Q406 global console launch, beginning November 19th in North America. In addition, "at least 7 mln and potentially as high as 9 mln more units are in the build plan for 4Q06." The report continues, "this production ramp handily exeeds [sic] a publicly announced tgt for 6 mln units to ship by yearend"; however, Nintendo had previously announced plans to ship 6 million units by the end of their fiscal year (ending March 31, 2007) and only 4 million by the end of the calendar year. The language appears to indicate the possibility of building, if not shipping, as many as 11 million Wii consoles by the end of the calendar year!
With production exceeding expectations, why release the console so much later than many anticipated, and right on top of the PlayStation 3's November 17th launch? It all comes down to software. While Nintendo may have warehouses full of Wiis, they need a launch lineup and reliable system software to go along with all that stockpiled hardware. But Zelda has to be done ... we would have been happy with just that, promise.
And for those who think programming for the Wii-mote will be difficult, think again:

An update:
Wii prepares to mop up the competition
Four million take on 500,000
By INQUIRER newsdesk: Wednesday 01 November 2006, 14:48
NINTENDO IS EXPECTING its Wii console to be a huge success, with company claims it is preparing the largest console launch in a decade - four million systems should be available worldwide, from its November launch in the US up to the end of 2006.
The biggest share of the shipment will head to the States, but even so, Nintendo reckons that supply isn't going to be able to meet demand, thanks to plenty of retailer orders and consumer requests.
According to Nintendo, factories are working around the clock to manufacture the console as part of a plan to keep the flow of Wii running consistantly.
Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo of America is telling consumers to buy, buy, buy: "Because of demand, we're urging shoppers not to get complacent. The level of demand we're seeing goes beyond the ordinary."
For those of you who have been living under a rock with no WiFi, the Wii is an experimental console that makes use of motion sensors in the controller to try and entice previous non-gamers and intrigue gaming afficianados.
It'll be out in the States on the 19th of this very month for $249.99. That's under $250 dollars. µ
I guess i'll be getting a Wii this xmas!!!

Some not so promising news... for the European bredren
European Wii shortages spread
Sold out before launch
By Dean Pullen: Wednesday 08 November 2006, 09:03

SEVERAL READERS have written in to tell us that Play.com has started to send out emails to customers who have pre-ordered a Nintendo Wii console.
The company has stated to some customers that they have had a record pre-order for the console and are unable to fulfill the huge list of orders.
The company cites in an email to customers, that the problem is due to a 'European shortage' of the Wii, something that flies in the face of the large shipment predictions from Nintendo.
The email from Play.com reads: "Due to a European shortage of the Nintendo Wii Consoles, we regret to inform you that Play.com will be unable to supply your pre-ordered Nintendo Wii at launch. As an Official distributor of Nintendo products we are guaranteed more stock before Christmas, but Nintendo have informed us, along with all other official Nintendo retailers, that the console will not be freely available until next year."
And continues: "All pre-orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis and we will fulfill your order as soon as we can." The Play site lists the console here as sold out.
Gameplay.co.uk have also added a disclaimer to the Wii stating: "Please note all consoles will be fulfilled on a strictly first come first served basis, subject to stock availability. As Nintendo have not yet confirmed the number of units available for day one, we cannot guarantee launch day delivery but all pre order customers will be e-mailed as soon as we know" - it certainly doesn't appear to be a Play.com specific issue.
It must be noted that Nintendo had urged customers to pre-order as soon as possible, as demand did appear to be high.
Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo of America told consumers to buy, buy, buy: "Because of demand, we're urging shoppers not to get complacent. The level of demand we're seeing goes beyond the ordinary" in this article in the INQ only several days ago.
If Nintendo has shipped the numbers it was suggesting (in the region of 4 million) and the initial batch has already sold out, things are looking very good for the Japanese firm.
Neither Play.com or Nintendo responded to our inquiries when prompted at the end of Tuesday afternoon. µ

Wii DVD player planned
Next year, according to rumours

NINTENDO HAS plans to release a new version of the Wii next year that will ship with a HD DVD player, according to industry rumours.
Gameinformer.com quotes Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime as saying that Nintendo decided not to ship with high-definition capability when it launched on Sunday because it wanted to keep the cost down.
However, his words indicate that it may have plans to release one in the future. Later next year Nintendo has plans to release a new version of the Wii and Gameinformer is speculating that this will be when the outfit will stick on the new drive.
A spokesNintendo said that the outfit was "absolutely not currently announcing any plans to upgrade the maximum resolution from 480p". But then again everyone knews that.
However, the spokesNintendo admitted it shouldn't be impossible in theory. In fact, said the spokesman, Microsoft was able to patch the Xbox 360 to support 1080p and Nintendo has already released a patch to allow Wii gamers to transfer game saves to SD cards.

As of tuesday, I got a wii from my uncle who came down from Canada....
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiheheheheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I got zelda with it and wii sports.
This semi review is coming from one happy nintendo customer (yeaaa..im guilty of fanboyism now) and someone who hasnt experienced wireless controllers yet!
Firstly, Wii sports is such a fun game, for the entire night we didnt even touch zelda, we got other family members who dont play games involved... Tennis rocks , bowling rocks, baseball is ok..but im not a fan of baseball..soooo....golf is fun , if you like golf , and boxing is pretty damned good!
With boxing the motion sensor sometimes doesnt respond..but the pace of the game more than makes up for it when your swingly your wii wildly to hit a double shot to the groin on your opponent. ( I played an entire match with shots to the groin , i knocked my male opponent out ..crushing a mans balls on the wii , most fun ever)
With Zelda , links got a brand new bag of tricks with the wiimote....movements are fun , menus are pretty clean and well layed out. The combat has gotten a overhaul into the kickass direction , swing wildly, or make gentle strokes, its up to you...using projectiles couldnt be simpler with pin-point precision by way of the wii mote. Link now kicks some major behind with his sword. Graphics are beautiful considering its a Game cube game on the Wii. Sound is dead on , the little wii mote speaker adds some nice effects to it. Swining, slicing, rolling , flipping, all done simply with the wii mote. I prefer the new controls over the windwaker's.
The system is small , sleek and silent. They took a page out of apples design and made one sexy system. Transport is going to be a breeze with this thing.
Also the Wii channel interface is slick and easy...but as of now im using a wireless usb port to connect to the internet....can anyone give me some advice on how to use my dsl line so i can speed up my connection to play games online?
Overall im damn happy i bought this system and I cant wait to get my hands on other games!
-
omg dude yu rule!!!
pleaseeee bring de sports and zelda down hq a weekend nah!!!
i didnt even know they had boxing on it!! but that make sooo much sense omg!!!
and of course zelda will own! and when they make a star wars for the wiimote ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that will be a dream come true!!
-
I want to review it for the new student newspaper : ) .
-
Errr, we havent seen the full power of the wii yet....the prettiest game on it is Zelda and thats a game cube game.
And what do you mean by powerful?
I for one would love to play with a wiightsaber.
-
wiight saber !! bawwwwwww send that to lucas!!
lol
aye larry, that thing bout ganner is interesting no ass!!
i never got to read the whole jedi order, which pisses me off, i only got the end
and saw the references to the big fight where ganner died and impressed the hell out of the vong.
I dont think kyle could have done that though. Ganner sounds way more force oriented than kyle so it was a great rewrite.

My brother in Florida was out in the cold (literally, it was about 50-60 degrees) this morning trying to score a Wii. He camped outside Gamestop because the sales person had told him they had 6 Wiis for sale when they opened at 8. He happened to be first in line because he got there at 1 am. Yes, he is quite crazy. He had already bought 4 games on Sunday while trying to get the system, Zelda, Rampage, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Super Monkey Ball. So he actually got the Wii this morning after waiting outside and called to let me know how it was going. He said that some of his friends were there and they were getting real into Wii Sports. Of course, they were swinging the controller around like mad people even though you don't have to. I envy them, the lucky bastards. I told him to return Rampage and Ultimate Alliance and to get Rayman. From what I have seen, that game looks like it is crazy fun especially with other people around.

What was that mr. PS? how many have you sold... right...

AN OFFICIAL statement from the console maker, Nintendo said that it has managed to flog more than 600,000 consoles in just eight days.
According to Reuters Nintendo's Wii-related revenue had hit $190 million since the machine's November 19 release.
Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime said that his outfit had shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware Sony had delivered for its launch and still sold out.
Sony has not mentioned how many PS3s it has flogged in North America so far, but claims it will have shipped a million units by the end of the year. Units are so scarce however, that the only place to buy them is for around $1000 on eBay.
The Vole says it has sold six million Xbox 360 boxes since November 2005.

this is yahoo's take on the above

lol we go need to build plexi-glass sheilds to play :)

or just control yourselves, if you know that you over wild when playing games then tone it down when using the Wii. I'm almost certain that all those people with this problem does normally 'wild it up' when playing games (ie button mash and toss controller when dead).
Either way, hopefully a 3rd party manufacturer will release a better wrist strap soon, or the ycould also do a Wii-mote skin that has some grips.
Well said. I particularly like the idea of 3rd party support... how bout we all rally together and deisgn, patent and manu rubber/silicon grips with better wrist strats BRISK and make some cash off this idea... I am sure its going to happen. Its like all those millions of skins for the iPods, heck even the 360 itsef has different skins....
-
I think Pelican done making some 3rd party things..
From what i see with me wiimote..you have to give that thing a reaaaal hard pelt for that thing to buss....ah wonder if it hit somenbody it could kill them......."death by wii"
-
Wii are winning... over 1 million wii sold in the same space as 300 000 PS3 , nintendo said they plan to sell 4 million worldwide by year end , and it looks like they are right. I'll wait till the price comes down a bit to get one , since its so light it won't be much to ship it.

Can we sacrifice a sony fanboy now? pretty please? or atleast beat him with the SIXAXIS.
Ive been to that Wiihaveaproblem website...holy crap thats alot of broken stuff....I dont think wii motes will be allowed on air planes any more, it is a weapon on mass destruction. I mean someone lost a 3500 dollar tv to the dreaded flying wiimote.
Im looking for a bit of help now with my Wii.....I have the usb wifi connector , but since we moved our pc , it is too far from our Wii to connect to wiiconnect24....is there anything such as a usb extender cable that i might be able to buy? or is there an easier method to hook up online play ?
Ive been to the virtual console and it loads in and out pretty quickly, bought myself some wii points, still trying to decide which game i should buy from the VC...... Cant wait for the Opera browser and online play....*drool* To be honest I think the wii points and virtual console games are pretty fairly priced, ranging from 5-10 dollars for Nes, Snes, N64, Turbo Grafix and Sega Genisis games. My brother flipped when he saw that Golden Axe was available for it ...nostalgia I guess.
The VC service isnt available in Trinidad...so I lied and said im from Canada..... :) If you never hear from me again ,its cuz the FBI have taken me away.
-
any inguries of family members due to uncordinated swinging of wii controllers reported as yet?
that should be fun, i could probably get away with resting a dread back fist "accidently" while playing zelda :)
i think i'll get one next month if possible

This is funny:
Nintendo Poo added to Nintendo Wii
Number one wasn't enough
By Dean Pullen: Friday 08 December 2006, 10:22
AS IF NAMING a console after urinary flow wasn't bad enough, Nintendo has been incredibly unlucky when FCC dished out the Wiimote's FCC ID.
Bennett Foddy from down under, had the courtesy to send us an image of the PAL Wiimote, in all is glory.
The image clearly shows that the FCC ID of the Wiimote is indeed POO-WC45.
We had presumed that the peculiar naming of the console was funny enough, obviously the guys at the FCC thought they had to go that step further. µ

wii .. poo..

13 more days for me to get mine! Well My aunt did have to wait 3hours in line she got no.42 and the store only had 65 Wii. Oh and one more thing is the usb wifi connector for the ds the same thing you use for the wii??

After playing both versions of twilight princess ie wii and cube versions (jap gc version, modded cube :P), I gotta say, I like the gamecube version better, even though its like mirrored. The controls on the wii version can be somewhat tedious at times with respect to aiming among other things, and its not that I wasn't accustomed to it, tried it for at least 2hrs.
-
*Cuts Rb in half with a wiimote slice*
Hmm i put up a wii review somewhere.. i think they took it down and moved it to this thread.
Modded cube? does it play wii stuff?
You do know you dont have to move your entire arms....you can just make like 5 cm movements and it works fine...After you get past the starting area, combat and aiming become second nature....they introduce it early and alot of it so you get used to it.
When you see the new combat moves they gave link (hes a violent bastard now) , and his new items the wii mote comes in pretty handy. I dont really see a problem with aiming either...infact the pinpoint accuracy is kinda better (saved me life alot in battles) none of links stuff requires arm tiring motions.. and it Aiming is a funfactor too ...atleast for me
But then i guess it boils down to personal preference.
Can we form like an online crew on the wii? ive never played online on a console before so i have no idea how that stuff works.
-
If is wifi, does that mean I can take my wii into rituals, or wherever and have it hook up with no trouble?
-
I will have my wii next weak thursday. I think Im gona wap it in gift papper just so i can shread it open! Mawmawmawmawmaw!!!!!
-
I will have my wii next weak thursday. I think Im gona wap it in gift papper just so i can shread it open! Mawmawmawmawmaw!!!!!
maw?
-
kiya wanna b my fren.........get one for me too plz
-
Hmm...must try that. Anyone with a wii try to save onto a USB flash drive? Thats been buggin me since i heard that there were 2 USB ports on the console, but everywhere I looked didnt give me any concrete evidence, just speculation. Please try it ASAP...Lastr question, for the wii owners so far, do you have the console connected to the net for extended periods? The wii-connect thing has already released quite a bit of stuff I've heard from my source (The person who's bringin it down for me). Currently, he has it connected wirelessly and on standby since he got it, and its just been sitting there downloading updates, etc. It isnt like a whole lot, but I just wanted to know if anyone down here is getting a similar response.

lol
-
Hey Kiya whats up so when exactly are you getting the Wii be specific like down to 10 minutes of actual arival time  lol
-
A writer from Time Magazine called Wii Sports the greatest videogame ever made. Read on for more:
http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1558498,00.html (http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1558498,00.html)
-
Gimme a usb flash drive and ill tell you :P
I use the wiiconnect 24...we left it on for a couple of days..the only problem for us was that our pc was too far from the wii and the signal strength wasnt all that great so untill we move em closer, wiiconnect24 doesnt get a strong enough signal to stay connected forever, it disconnects then reconnects alot.
But if you try to use the internet , download updates etc everything works.
-
Wouldnt that make sense? I mean, when on standby, maybe it only checks for updates periodically, not all the time kinda thing. Or is it that you get a 'disconnected'/connnection lost prompt?
-
Hey Kiya whats up so when exactly are you getting the Wii be specific like down to 10 minutes of actual arival time lol
No prob Qloxx
kiya wanna b my fren.........get one for me too plz
No seen if i had d money. I sure most of you have a good job here. i'm just an ojt (well not any more, today was my last day) ^_^.
-
Well at least you have a goor way to pass the time :D
-
Not any more, yesterday was my last day as an ojt. I am now looking for another job. sob.
-
like eg.
-
ok. btw 8 more days till i get my wii
so as to not dobble post.
make it 7 more days.
I.......I need it........?
-
WOW that sucks but you know that companies will try to cash in on the wii as fast as possible. I personally am not a wii person but the system has massive potential not graphically but inovatively with the Wiimote but that will flood the market with sub par crap to make money.

Report says Wii costs just $158 to manufacture
by Cyril Kowaliski - 03:49 pm, December 15, 2006
Whereas market research firm iSuppli calculated last month that the PlayStation 3 costs as much as $840 to produce, the picture may be quite a bit different on the Nintendo side of things. According to a report by Japan's Toyo Keizai Online, the Wii's production costs add up to a scant $158.30. The report compares that figure to the production cost for the 20GB PlayStation 3, which it says is $805.85—the same value quoted by iSuppli last month. The Toyo Keizai Online report goes on to say that the Wii's wholesale price is $195.99, compared to $399.20 for the PlayStation 3.
If those figures are correct, it's no wonder rumors are circulating that Nintendo plans to slash Wii prices in the near future. A Toys"R"Us manager told DPad yesterday that Nintendo will "re-launch" the Wii some time before or early after next spring. The console will reportedly become available in multiple colors, and its price will be cut to $200. Thanks to Engadget and Gizmodo for the links.
I knew it, So nintendo is making a 50 dollar profit on every Wii while Sony is making several hundred dollars loss, shoulda make someone invest in nintendo stock when it was cheap. Price cut to 200 next year : ) , i want to play with someone Wii.
-
5 more days till i get my wii. Or a nervus breakdown whichever comes first!
-
Don't you see, it was all SEGA's plan from the very beginning, let them kill themselves out, then crush them in one final sweep...dreamcast = skynet
-
I just heard that a part of the wii has been recalled! Just to be sure what does dat realy mean?
-
I just heard that a part of the wii has been recalled! Just to be sure what does dat realy mean?
The wrist strap.
-
Lawd people, they eh recall nothing, the next shipment of wiis just coming with stronger wriststraps. But the current ones are perfectly fine and still on store shelves. NINTENDO SHALL NEVER RECALL!
-
Maybe not a full out recall, but they are replacing the straps...

Well DONE!!! only thing is... on a PC monitor its pretty useless... now if yuh hook it up to a 32 or > " HDTV... wait that'd only work on ATI cards... since 1080p isn't supported by 88xx series Geforce... hmm anyways point I making is yuh may need a projector for this to be practical. Interesting all the same..

Wii
As previously reported by the INQ, Nintendo has offered to replace more than 3.2 million Wii remote straps after users have reported that the connecting cords broke too easily. You can check out the newer version at Nintendo's site, which allows a comparison between the newer straps and the thinner, older offerings. Users need to call customers services on 0870 60 60 247 or send an email to Nintendo, the strap can then be sent back, after which Nintendo will send a replacement.
Nintendo and Chart Track have confirmed that the Wii has become the fastest-selling videogames console ever within the UK, with 105,000 systems already sold. Similar record-breaking success was reported in our PAL-utilising cousins in Australia, where 32,901 Wii units were sold in the four days following the console's launch.
However, it seems Nintendo have also fallen foul to smaller than predicted launch day shipments, although not quite on the scale of Sony.
Gamasutra reports that although Nintendo has not stated a change in shipment plans, the company did retract a small part of an earlier press release which indicated that 600,000 Wii consoles had been sold in the Americas in just eight days. The main shipment figures aren't in dispute, but a sentence at the end of the press release stating "Despite spot shortages in some locations, well more than a million Wii systems will be available in the United States by the end of the year", was later retracted.
The conclusion formed by Gamasutra is that Nintendo is no longer confident of being able to ship the original figures promised this year, and this is supported by the European launch of the console last week which saw less stock then expected being delivered - apparently many pre-orders weren't fulfilled due to Nintendo not shipping the previously promised quantities.
A lovely little hack has come courtesy of someone on the Nintendo forums. The Wii currently only offers net access via the in-built Wifi adapter, and Nintendo won't be offering an ethernet based accessory until next year at the earliest - fortunately it seems a USB 2.0 to ethernet adapter seems to work with the Wii, and can be seen working in this video, from this thread.
The adapter is a "KINAMAX USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Network Adapter". We can't confirm it definitely works, but it certainly seems to. It's likely the Nintendo branded accessory shares a similar chipset to the adapter used in the video, and the drivers are already on the Wii, thus allowing the adapter to work.
According to a report in US magazine Game Informer, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for Nintendo DS will be released on 15th October 2007 in the US. The magazine also reports a follow-up to Twilight Princess for the Wii has been in development for over a year. Good news.
-
saw a link on digg with a vid of a Wii booting a backup disc from a bootloader on a memcard.

Dude you need serious help if Mawhahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!!!! equates sending a kiss to you.

ENGLISH MAN ENGLISH!!! :p.
I seriously think Nintendo Should have done more testing with the wiimote and non gamers because gamers get excited and the non gamers would seriously lose themselves in the moment.

no mwahahaha kiss to empire?
Just show em wii sports crixx, my aunt want to buy one now after playing tennis.
Im at about the 2nd to last dungeon in Zelda ,and holy hell they made link one angry angry man. They seemed to have taken a page from shadow of the collusus and made all the boss fights seem so epic.... Ive finnaly gotten all his sword skills and I think he belongs in Kill Bill now. This time around they arent teaching you how to stab , roll , etc all those are standard, the skills are fully functional and vital to combat , such as breaking off the armor on an enemy , or getting behind one or shield bashin they brains out.
And if anyone else loves Iron knuckle ,your gonna be in for a treat this time.

What games are you getting kiya?
Update on the weather channel , it launched last night, simple as hell to setup , just have to patch the wii.
But since we said we're from canada and gave my uncles address it gives me the weather for there when i start the channel , but i can just as easily get Trinidads weather. It gives a globe to play around with and a significant amount of zoom in (nothing near the level of google earth, which shows me my damn house). It allows you to check the weather in almost any part of the globe, UV rays and 5 day forecasts. It loads almost instantly with minimal wait time. A worthy feature, and what the hell its free. One more thing to boast about and impress family with. Also as promised new games are prompt for the Virtual console every monday apparently.(could be tuesday all i know is every week theres new stuff to buy)
IGN also said that the beta for the webbrowser goes live this friday.
-

Im loving the wii browser...(PRON ON THE WII ROX!!!)
:P
-
Ok ill try it not sure it will work out though. Its like someone somewhere dosent want me to get it.
-
You can get either the wireless router or Access point. Alot of ppl buy wireless routers, when in fact a wireless access point is all you really want/need. You can get them at most computer stores down here. Look for a Linksys WAP54G or WRT54G. Or you could go D-Link and then there are generic brands. Its up to you really. I'd suggest the WAP54G though. As for configuring, well I presume you have DSL, so it WILL be simple, DHCP for it and put in some arbitrary WEP key and yuh good to go.
-
DS wifi adapter works fine for me
-
i just cant find baego any where! well if it comes right down to it i'll have to get it from spk.
-
lol, I don't normally bring down such stuff (normally stick to yu-gi-oh stuff, but am willing to make exceptions from time to time), but I wouldn't recommend it, only ask me as an absolute last resort...
-
oops sorry spk didnt mean to have people thing u holdin out on them!lol people doh give d man a hard time. Anyways spk i got that little prob. fixed. My cuz left to go back home to the US early this mornin. Last night i went to visit them and we had a mini sweet! He said that he would get it for me for free! I feel so loved ^_^!
Oh and btw for those of u that dont have a wii you can go to gulf city in radio shack and pay 15. to play the wii for two hours!
-
WOW I get to pay 15$ to look like and idiot for 2 WHOLE HRS!!! sign meh up damnit!!!
-
Lol , by the way the Wii is nearing its sales mark , according to one site it already hit over 3 million sales, at this rate by next holiday season it could very well outsell the 360 .
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/wii/nextgen-console-numbers-wii-sells-3-million-224616.php
Nintendo's business model is selling to people who wont' buy tons of games , so they make 50 dollars profit per Wii to make up for it. They are dropping the price by 50 dollars next year , so likely after making 3 million x 50 dollars (150million), they can now afford to be less cautious .
With so many consoles selling i'm convinced the Wii will be a console to get , Some developer will make killer apps eventually .
-
mwah...mwahha...MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Soon..yes ...yes...Nintendo will rule...will rule...THE WORLD!
My god..can you imagine the sales number for super smashbrothers? I think everyone who owns a Wii must and will get it.
They released some new digs for the Virtual console, Im having a hard time deciding between Super street fighter and Castlevenia IV i think, for the supernes....anyone wana offer a review or two?
You will look like a GOD playing the grand Wii.
But 15 bucks..thats kinda intense..
Kiya, lets get our wii consoles together and go right outside radio shack and charge 10 bucks for 2 hours.
Oh by the way, went by my friends house to check out his ps3, its nice....meh.....used his browser for a bit and that thing is buck slow compared to the Wii's browser which moves at about my dsl speed on my pc.
Anyone know if there are any wii games or controllers and nunchucks selling in tnt?
-
wow @ needing a review for super street fighter 2 :( how old are you dude
-
best games for snes were Chrono Trigger and FF6 IMO . Super Street fighter 2 was one of the best fighters for the snes i think .
-
Kiya, lets get our wii consoles together and go right outside radio shack and charge 10 bucks for 2 hours
Sounds good to me!
I have two controllers and nunchucks one with a black skin and one with a pink skin. I got everything from away. Folks tnt has NOTHING!!!

which DS accessories are you lookign for and where exactly did you look? i could tell you one time, nowhere in south does really take Nintendo seriously as far as retail outlets go. the one place that 'might' have had it before was off the wall, and theo wner of that store stop bringing in new nintendo items other than gameboy games a couple years now. i remember you were askign about Ds items in another thread, but unless i'm mistaken, you specifically asked for places in south right?
Well i looking for a case or carring bag and a pair or screen protecters.
-
thirdly
can yu imagine being so young that you dont have experience with super street fighter?? :(
-
thats sad
-
I check jk lots of times and they dont have any ds carrying case. Bus maby i can get them to order one for me.
-
yeah.. wait nah, he younger than EK?
its a shame isnt it
-
er if u downloaded a street fighter without the new challengers ( ie deejay cammie etc) its not super. FYI there wasnt any SSF2 Turbo on snes , only world warrior, Hyper (turbo), ssf2 and SF Alpha 2.
-
err..i could probly beat all of you in street fighter for the snes....theres two of em ,i just wanted to know what the first one was like. Jesus.
-
once a man say something like "i could probly beat all of you in street fighter for the snes" you know we dealing with a nub
LOL......
CPimp i suggest u not say that......u really do sound like a n00b
-
Ok.. you know what..forget I said anything. Ill keep my opinions to myself. I think I can see why alot of people hate these forums.
-
okay hoss, seriously, right now you being an idiot. you even read what you wrote? you could beat everyone here in Street Fighter for the SNES? how many members of gatt have you seen playing Street Fighter, and how many have you played yourself? everyone has their own reasons for disliking various forums, but if yours is this here, you real small (figurative).
bottomline, when you pay your dues, you get the bragging rights, they have to be earned not just assumed.
doh waste yuh time on he......plus alllyuh rel strayin
-
ohhh challenge :D :D :D
yeah i bored
-
Brawl! Brawl!! I can't frikin wait!!! I get all 7 skills!! I beat yeto in 1:30!! D iron knuckle knight thing fight to get the D. rod waz real fkin BADDD!! It have no manga this week arrrggghhh....need morre red bull
-
Im sorry for my ignorant statements, But why jump on my case so much if I havent played one game? Its just projecting an image that your seemingly elite onto me, next time ill just check ign for a review. Yea..I wont aruge more on that anymore, sorry again..
You race yeta yet , he wife? she is fast, plus you get a heart piece for beating her..I think I did her in 1:26...and she was right behind me on that time. If you gettin trouble, slash she with your sword, it slows her down.
Wait till you fight Zant Kaguya. Its some samurai X stuff.
-
happy new year wii lovers.
-
well while we doin that still, I real bad in SSBM and NGNT4....*runs for cover*
-
Good news for Wii owners. Super Mario Bros. is out for Virtual Console. Makes me wish I had a Wii.
-
dunno bout that thingy, if nintendo didnt certify it.
I downloaded the street fighter , Its a pretty good buy, they give you the manual and everything, and it can be played with the gamecube control, or the classic control, both work pretty well. Plus ,with the net browser, you can just pause your game, go to the broswer and check for cheats and tips all on one system!!
Ahhh memories.
-
Nintendo WiFi addapter works fine for your DS and your Wii. and its Nintendo certified as its made by them.....but i guess that is an alternative too.
-
check out this cool video of some guys playing a Wii on a cimema screen..

I was gonna post this in the PS3 thread, but since it more of a victory to Nintendo I think it is better served here:
PS3 trounced by Wii in Japan
Nintendo is console king
By Nick Farrell: Thursday 11 January 2007, 08:42
SONY'S HOME market of Japan is being taken over by its rival's Nintendo in the console war.
According to a market survey released by Japanese computer game publisher Enterbrain, the Wii has beaten the PS3 on the island.
Sony only sold 466,716 PS3 units in Japan after its November 11 launch until the end of December. Sony had expected to sell a million consoles domestically.
Mainichi news reports that Nintendo sold 989,118 Wiis domestically from its December 2 launch date to month's end, nearly double Sony's total. The only good news for Sony was that Microsoft's Xbox 360 is getting an even bigger drubbing in Japan than the PS3.
The comic with the potato console comes to mind...
-
Hey i just finished the legend of zelda for the wii yesterday.
Now that i beat the game i have nothing to live for.....sigh
Was thinkin of getting a new game an saw some in gulf...570something dollars!
Can anyone sugest a good no a realy good game to invest in??
-
Not that many Really good games out yet for the Wii. I have 7 games so far, yet to play them, since my Wii will be delivered on Tuesday, but I have te following:
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
Cars
Elebits
Call of Duty 3
Trauma Center
Madden 07
other than that i think Rayman may be a good one, but I would wait a while if I were you.
-
Or you could buy A Link To The Past on Virtual Console.
-
i'd reccomend rayman or exite truck.
Metriod commeth.
-
no way! materoid is out? Sorry, I ent keepin up with these things recently, any news on brawl? btw, Naruto-wii's box art and several screens have been released, and so far the confirmed characters are post time-skip, and include deidara etc.
-

What about freeloader?
http://www.modchip.com/gamecube/ <-- look to the bottom of the page

Freeloader works well for the cube but as far as i know there is none for the wii. The modchip i was refering to was a a wii modchip. I personally have a chipped cube, works great :D
-
Two interesting pieces of news:
Super Mario World is released for Virtual Console for 800 Wii points. Definitely check this out if you never played it before and if you have, you know that it is worth getting.
The first Wii modchip is announced, the WiiKey.

This 1st generation of Wii modchips was humming along so smoothly, but it looks like a recent Nintendo manufacturing modification has rained on their parade for the time being. While the chips do work fine in early Wiis, and that DVD upgradability should keep 'em humming for some time to come, the Wiinja, CycloWiz and WiiKey chips all fail to work with Wiis running the D2B Panasonic chipset, which shows up in certain Wiis, mostly ones purchased in late January / early February. The only way to check for the chipset is to pry open the Wii and look for yourself, and the incompatibility means that even the DVD upgradability won't allow current modchips to run on these systems. Both the CycloWiz and Wiinja teams have confirmed the problem, and are already working on new versions to get around the Panasonic chipset, but you might want to make sure your Wii is compatible before you blow your cash on a non-working modchip.

Well, I got my Wii today. I will be trying it out tonight when I get home from work. Hopefully it'll be as much fun as everyone claims it is. But I'll really have fun once I hook it up to my new 55" Plasma HDTV that I got last week, LOL....Yea B1tche$ 55" Plasma = Mucho Fun!

ahh shaddup!!! lmao... well I guess when I come to visit I too can bask in the glory that is a 55" HDTV!!! does this mean we seeing EVEN LESS on Live now?
-
LOL @ 55" boasting. Boast ya boast, but don't boast about rocking a Wii on a big screen, the bigger, the whacker. It took me a very long time to get used to that disgusting 480p resolution on my 129" screen. It's not bad, but after playing in HD for a year it was a while before I could go back and feel comfortable :-\
-
Well I didn't get the 55" for the Wii, it's just another benefit. I intend on sweating GOW on it though and all 18 other 360 games that I have, not to mention the DVD collection....The Wii is really for my Fiance since she loves her Nintendo.
Which projector are you using for that 129" screen you have there, I am also looking for a projector to take my gaming portable style when I go back home to Trinidad for vacation......

A sony VPL-VW100. A projector makes things as unportable as possible. The projector + tripod + screen which measures at 14' long = UNPORTABLEST THING EVARR!
Oh, and another thing. Unless you're DVD player does upscaling, watching a 480p signal on that tv is also going to look like filth. ;) HD DVD = goat.
-
Umm, yea, Upscaling is no problem, and Digital Cable in HD is also no problem. And, why do I need a Tripod and screen, when a Big White wall will do just fine.....
-
looks like guitar hero For The Wii
That’s right, during Activision’s conference call on Wednesday, CEO Mike Griffith stated that Guitar Hero will be making it’s way to the Wii:
The key difference in our strategy versus the prior cycle, is that in addition to full support on Sony and Microsoft platforms, we will aggressively target the Nintendo platforms consistent with our multi-platform strategy and Nintendo’s expected growth. In fiscal 2008, we will double our offerings on the DS and the Wii, including Spider-Man, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero.
No other details were given during the 60+ minute conference call. Since the announcement was given by the President of Activision, I think the chances are high for an official press release in the future. If you wish to hear the announcement for yourself, check out the conference call below and skip ahead to around the 28-minute mark.

Umm, yea, Upscaling is no problem, and Digital Cable in HD is also no problem. And, why do I need a Tripod and screen, when a Big White wall will do just fine.....
LOL. My dear boy. A big white wall does not do "just fine."
When it comes to projectors there's alot at stake. Screens posess the right amount of "give and take". It absorbs the right amount of light and reflects the right amount to give a balanced image. Regular paint/drywall, whatever will either absorb too much or kick back too much causing the image to not look as it should. We're talking high resolution images on a grand scale here. Everything shows up!
-
so, you know, just call wherever youre going and find out the light absorption properties of the surface before hand.
-
steupse, just buy a lil sharp 27 inch screen tv and you good with that!
WEAK HERE BRING...
-
Well Laertes, I really got the 55" for HD movies, 360 gaming and HD cable TV. The Wii is a recent aquisition and will be hooked up to the plasma as well. Didn't buy the tv with the intention to use it with the Wii. Gears of War is what my main concern was...
-
so, when is your episode of CRIBS showing?
-
so, when is your episode of CRIBS showing?
Right after W1nTry sweat that 55" Plasma into the ground :p LMAO!
-
^_^ Ballin'
-
LOL @ all this talk over a plasma tv. The WORSE device to game on, due to excessively fast burn in rates. They haven't advanced plasma to erradicate burn in yet made progress with rear projection DLP =\
-
Well Camre, Burn in is not as bad as when plasmas first came out. There is a 100 hour aging that needs to be done first so that the phosphurs are all aged. Plus we not talking about gaming 24/7, maybe 2 hours - 8 hours a week depending on my time. It's on widescreen, so there is no need for 4:3 bars on the sides, and there really are no HUD displays in games like Fight Night Round 3 and Gears of War to worry about. Even so, once you get a DVD running for a couple hours after gaming, there will be no Burn in at all. Odion plays on a 42" plasma, he never complained about any Burn in. And I will be using mine for mostly movies anyway. I will probably get a smaller LCD for hardcore gaming once I move into my new place. I was looking at a 61" Rear Projection DLP before deciding on the plasma, only got it to save space. I will eventually get a DLP for the living room and keep the 55" in the bedroom.

what, none in the garage, kitchen, bathroom? lol see reference: epic movie

i need some help with my nitendo wifi connection.
When the wii is trying to update i have to click on "grant acess on the pc and i says one or more users connected then it starts to update just fine then i get an error on the wii saying someting about the intenet connection and when i check the pc it says no users connected.
What should i do?
-
i using the usb thingy from nintendo
now i cant even install it cause befor it can finish is says internet connection sharing error....i am sooo depressed!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!
-
How far is your pc from your wii.
Mine is a good distance, but a feature it cant do with wiiconnect24 is the mii sharing. It updates fine.
But if your pc is too far, the signal could be breaking , its only happened once to me so far during an update.
Ive been trying to get my hands on a USB extension cord for the longest while, that might solve your problem too, if distance is the cause (as im sure it is).
-
check bhagwansinghs in trincity when they open. I work there now, and they do have usb extensions there. It should open either friday the 9th or monday the 12th
-
i dubt it is the distance cause the first time i install it everything worked just fine! the pc is just wack!!
-
whack the pc a couple hundred times with your wii mote saying, the POWER OF MIAYAMOTO COMPELS YOU.
-
what games are must have titles that are out now(beside zelda). Got a modded wii @ work.
-
is there something in the internet settings that i could change that would help?
-
You....modded....nay....you defiled!.....such a beautiful thng.....how...how can you live with yourself......................HOW!!!!!!
-
Dont think so but i do bealive he did a disk defragment thingy on the pc
-
is there something in the internet settings that i could change that would help?
Are you sure that your Father is'nt changing the settings when he's by the system and not telling you anything.
-
Are you sure that your Father is'nt changing the settings when he's by the system and not telling you anything.
That could be but i dono. Sigh this is driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
aye fellas normally i would not bother to post questions like this but, i fed up search through these post...
i now that the service (- the DSL cost) for WiiConnect is free, but do the games themselves provide free play online as well, or do you have to pay the makers of the game to get that feature?
-
well, there a no online games out yet....T_T
but
gamespy has teamed up with nintendo, and developers all have the wifi online system for the wii now, and the first game to use it is going to be pokemon colloseum, then the next wave of wii games (smash bros included) will all be online yay!
-
free online play WASD
-
did someone say smash bros...online...and free in the same sentence...
so...
Wii=
1. Cheap (console and games relative to compition and average pricing of course)
2. inovative new controlls
3. relatively good and some super good launch titles
4. FREE online community base (well - DSL cost)
5. Free online play (again - DSL cost)
6. ability to playback all the old consoles' games (for a price, given, and who know maybe some more online *crosses fingers*)
7. Ability to lose weight playing games (LOL :P)
so... why people buying the rest? :P
thanks for the info i made meh nex gen choice, Wii IMMC (well have to wait till christmas, nintendo and their bundling go be a good buy, plus my mom only goes twice a year :D), 360 was close but i looking for something that i could get the whole family on, even grandma, we go put she to pong some rabbit head...keep she quite...errr...entertained...
thanks again.
-
because some people can afford and or prefer variety, and doh care if it free or not, once they get what they pay for :P
Gaming is pretty expensive nowadays anyway. Prices in consoles, games and gameplay has gone up....meh doh bother me.
The Wii is a low price console so their marketing scheme is true and effective.
-
buy the wii.......join us.....................................................JOIN USSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone gone gulf in a while? The damn controller costs combined more expensive than what i pay for the system.
about 500-600 for the nunchuck alone, I almost ask the lady if she want meh arm too.
-
i will soon enough...lol
wii=for mii (get it? get it?)
b/c
mii=CHEAP BASTARD :D
-
OMFG 500-600 for the nunchuck alone.Heck why not donate a few pints of blood while your at it!
In gulf the price of wii games is 175.00!
-
BUT DAT REAL GOOD!!
-

-
oops sorry i meant 175 for wii games real good
-
175 dollars for a wii game in gulf? ...u sure? if so ..where!
-
lol they must be sellin wii sports rofl
-

-

I didnt ever bother to ask the game price, I didn't want a heart attack.
-
So what your saying is that for the cost of two pairs of nunchucks and wiimotes i can get a brand new wii!
I am still getting error code 32002 on my wii when i try to update. the nintendo website only has hele for that error if u using a router! Can someone PLEASE help me! I spend 45US for this dumb usb wifi connector and i fedup trying to get it to work!
-
have you tried reinstalling the software as yet?
lots of times! at least 8 or 9 times! two times it started to update and got about 1/4 way through and then i got an error code. The rest of times as soon as it said it was about to b updated i get and error code.
-
I am having a problem with my Wii displaying anything at all....
It was working fine a couple weeks ago when I last played it. It is hooked up to my Plasma through regular RED. WHITE, YELLOW A/V cable...Yesterday I tried to boot it up, it comes on fine, I hear the disc spinning, but nothing comes up on the screen. Anybody know what it could be?
My first thought is that it is the cable...but if that's the case WTF...that is one cheap a$$ cable...
On the other hand, I hope it's not some kind of update from Nintendo that it does by itself that messed it up.
At this point I am about to just buy another cable, but wanted to get some feedback from anybody on here if they have the same issue.
-
I am going to try it on another TV, but as I said it was working fine a couple weeks ago, nothing was moved, so I don't know what happened.
-
On the other hand, I hope it's not some kind of update from Nintendo that it does by itself that messed it up.
Yeah, let's hope only MS does that :p
-
Has anyone else come to the realization that we are almost in May and stores in the US still have no/little inventory of Nintendo's Wii? The demand for this system is mind blowing.
-
Yeap, Woodyears been trying to get one abroad to no avail,
My aunt went up Canada and I asked for a pair of nunchucks and the stores didnt even have those.... Wii-mania is sweeping the world!!
-
But aftr all that we're still waiting on some killer apps...right? I really ent see no big draw since i finish Zelda. Raving rabbids and Warioware lookin good...but for $50 US, I think I'll hold on for Naruto 6....and Spiderman 3!!
-
Medal of honor vanguard is good but I eh gettin nothin till after cxc....and smash will be out by then :) :) For now the VC keepin me occupied
-
Is it so much High Demand, or Low Supply? I think Nintendo is purposely providing LOW supply in order to create Higher DEMAND. Honestly I haven't sent my Wii back yet to get fixed, still pissed that it is not working anymore after only playing it for 2 weeks. The games are not that good right now, and I am not in a hurry to get it fixed.
-
nope, they are putting out with as much speed as possible,
What your talking about is sonys launch tactic, start with a little and create the semblance of high demand, but it backfired. Nintendo launched with way more than them and its still selling out no matter how much they ship.....and as far as I know, why delay your shipments when they're making so much money. They no longer need to convince people to buy them, so they dont need to use this tactic.......... http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=212

HOLY CRAP:
Flood of Wii to end Wii drought
Plus Nintendo announces massive wad
By Dean Pullen: Friday 27 April 2007, 14:05
Click here to find out more!
NINTENDO PRESIDENT Satoru Iwata has promised to boost Wii production by next month after a period of severe shortages due to massive demand for Nintendo's new console.
"We must do our best to fix this abnormal lack of stock," Iwata said. "We have not been able to properly foresee demand. We will do our best to offer the machine for those who are waiting."
This comes shortly after rumours of Nintendo searching for further manufacturing partners to ramp up the manufacturing and supply of its sort-after consoles.
Further backing up these rumours and the promises from Iwata, a Nintendo spokesperson confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the company plans to increase Wii production as demand for the console continues to outstrip supply.
"For the first three months of this year we have been producing one million hardware units per month. We are increasing the manufacturing capacity and forecast to ship 14 million in this fiscal year to our distributors and retail customers globally," the spokesperson said.
These statements come shortly after Nintendo announced annual profits up 77.2% to ¥174.3bn ($1.4bn) for the year ending 31 March, with operating profit reaching ¥226.02bn ($1.9bn), which is an incredible 150% increase on last year’s figures.
Overall sales surged 90 per cent to a record ¥966.5 billion ($8.1 billion).
The record profits are certainly attributable to the incredible demand for Nintendo’s Wii and the continued sales of the DS.
Since its release in November 2006, Wii sales have topped 5.84m units globally along with almost 29m games, while DS sales exceeded 23m units along with game sales totaling 123m.
Nintendo also forecasted global sales of 14m Wii hardware units and 55m software unit sales in 2007's financial year, and projected sales of 22m DS systems and 130m games.
According to these predictions, the company forecast sales of ¥1.14tn, an 18% increase on 2006, and an operating profit growth of almost 20% to ¥270bn.
No wonder Mario can afford to fly off into space in his next adventure. Maybe he can pay for Stephen Hawking too. µ
DID I just see Tn as in TRILLION???
-
Well I just got my NEW Wii, the second one, since the first one DIED on me after 3 weeks, still have to send back the one that died to Nintendo for repair. Hopefully this one lasts. :protest:
-
well it's in Yen right? so maybe Trillion wouldn't be too far fetched...
I like nintendo alot, in fact most of the older users know me for my Legend of Zelda Avatars and Sigs, but as iti s right now there are only 3 titles available for the Wii that i would purchase it i owned one: Zelda (an updated GCN title), Trauma Center (a literal 'WII-make' of a DS game i previously owned) and Super Paper Mario (originally intended for the GCN).
what about warioware? That and Paper Mario are gonna be my next wii acquisitions

Is it just me or does Fox look like he's doing one of a certain Uchiha's signature moves?
-
any truth to the rumor that the wii controller has a secret mic function and that soon you will be able to do voip ( no brainer if the controller speaker doubles as a mic since the wii is wi fi always on) or that future games will feature voice controls
-
I agree with laertes. Nintendo stated that they designed the Wii-mote to allow for many types of expansion peripherals to be connected.
-
Fellas i wAnna buy a console....which would you recommend me buyin.......Wii or 360?
-
Well since I have both the Wii and 360, I would say it's up to you to decide, if you are into more hardcore games with uber graphics, then the 360 should be your choice, but if you're into the fun games with family in mind and graphics don't matter, then the Wii is it. It all depends on YOU. Honestly It's great having BOTH, because then you have the best of both worlds. My cousin just returned my Wii, she borrowed it to have a Wii party with her other girlfriends, and they all had fun. On the other hand, if you have a good DSL connection and $50US a year to spare, then the 360 is worth it, since Xbox Live is second to none, and online gaming is the place to be. a bunch of us here on GATT sweat Gears of War every weekend and it's really worth the money invested for Xbox live. So again I would say, "It all depends on YOU".
-
Fellas i wAnna buy a console....which would you recommend me buyin.......Wii or 360?
You have a dead ps2, why not go ps3???
so all games can still be played...
+ PS3 is a multimedia centre right for your living room... with 60GB standard and easily upgradeable...
Supporting HDMI right out the box....so when u upgrade to HD or if you have already u'll get the best experience...
+ BLU-RAY movies... HD MOVIE Player right out the box...
+ Free Online Service..no annual subcsription
+ Playstation Home this Fall
As for games, it have a few good titles now, and to be expanded this fall....
aka. Heavenly Sword, LAIR, MGS4, HAZE, possible UT3 etc..etc...

The man Ask Wii or 360...He didn't say PS3....So I am assuming he on a budget, $599.00 for the PS3 vs. $499.00 for an Xbox 360 Elite which comes with HDMI, 120 Gigs and Hundreds of games out NOW....I think that's a no brainer, he probably don't have an HDTV yet, so the HDMI would be pointless, which means he can go 360 Premium for $399 and with the HD DVD Drive going down to $60 possibly, it's still cheaper than the PS3. But what it boils down to is GAMES, So what if Sony Online is FREE, according to Shiv, it's bare and you feel real desolate as opposed to a premium online service which is Xbox Live, where you guaranteed to have dedicated friend lists and lots of GAMES to sweat online. Believe when I say $ 50 US a year is well invested in a stable and great online community. But again, assuming he have DSL to enjoy the Online scene. Again, the choice is his, and the size of his wallet. :P

What the guy above me said!!! lol

Nintendo cured my breast cancer
Wiihabilitation
By Nick Farrell: Tuesday 19 June 2007, 10:17
A WOMAN IS CLAIMING that without her Wii she would never have recovered from breast cancer particularly fast.
Mary Jane Zamora, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2005 and was treated with chemotherapy.
She found herself weakened and unable to get get off the couch. Her daughters brought out the Wii for her to play. Although “exhausting” at first, she was soon playing every day.
According to 4colorrebellion.com she found that the Wii encouraged her and helped her realise that she could still do physical things.
Zamora said that the Wii and its games helped her to visualise her new life, after cancer. She said her life was coming back. µ

no disrepect but PS3s are for losers...an i'm not really spending the money, it's my big brother who is giving me money to buy one...recently he changed his mind from the 360 to the Wii and i wanted sum reasons to get him to buy the 360 again
-
PS3 isnt for losers, PS3 is for everyone who wants a 600 USD paper weight! (Kidding, ps3 is good in its own rights)
If you and your brother live in the same house, get a wii....
My bro bought ours also and we have a hell of a time playing it together. Nothing says fun like beating your brother senseless in a game of boxing. Bonding and stress relief in one package! (If hes winning, just swing the nunchuck at his head, its a sure fire way to win.......though you might end up in jail.)
The 360 is rocking with its online though.. Wii doesnt have any online games till about next month when super mario strikers comes out in the states then smash and what not will follow.
Of course....the wii does cure breast cancer...sooo.....................................................
-
Hmm...Man say PS3 is for losers yes, LOL...Well again, if you're leaning towards the 360, then there are good reasons why that is a wise decision.
1. Gears of War
2. Halo 3
3. Bioshock
4. Forza 2
5. Fable 2
6. GTA IV - WITH EXCLUSIVE ADDED CONTENT ONLY ON XBOX 360
7. TONS of other great games
8. TONS of Arcade games available for purchase and download (50+ of which I have 52)
9. Xbox Live (Great Online Community for a mere $50 US per year- WELL WORTH the investment)
10. Did I mention Gears of War??! - and soon Gears of War 2
11. PS3 is lacking in every department so far because of lack of EXCLUSIVE Titles, and very lonely Online Service..
Reasons to get a Wii:
1. Innovative Wiimote controller
2. Mario Party 8 - very fun group game, investment in 3 other Wiimotes necessary (could get costly with accessories)
3. Smash Brothers
4. Super Paper Mario
5. Metroid
6. Possible Star Wars Game in the future which would ROCK with the Wiimote....
7. Zelda
8. Downloadable Games from the classic systems (NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, TurboGrfx16) - Not alot available right now, hopefully they keep adding MORE
9. Lots of Family Fun!
So hopefully that helps a bit...I would stay away from the PS3 at least until the GOOD games come out, right now Sony is lacking, and I am in no rush for a PS3 even though I will get one eventually.

See Empire, the other problem is even getting a Wii, it's really difficult these days unless you preorder, YES PREORDER!, imagine the Wii launch months and months ago, and you still have to PREORDER, and it seems like it's getting pushed off every month: http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=B020070O (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=B020070O) I got my Bundle from Gamestop, and this is one of them that they offer, see the ship date of 8/1/2007.

ok another reason to go with the 360

Well Ms did this with the 360 a while back, now Nintendo... the question is when will Sony?
Nintendo opens up game creation kit to all comers
Come Wii with me
By INQUIRER newsdesk: Thursday 28 June 2007, 12:04
NINTENDO HAS released a game-creation kit allowing independent developers to develop games for its Wii console for the first time.
The firm said it will allow anyone to create and sell downloadable Wii games through its WiiWare scheme. From next year, such games will be flogged through the Wii Shop channel.
Developers can begin designing games on a PC but must complete them on the Wii.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said: "Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit." µ
-
wow, where did you get that news...that rocks!
now if only we could stick some more memory into the wii....sd cards be damned...
-
Hey folks i wana get some new games for my wii. What do you all think of the new mario party and pokemon games for the wii?
-
Mario Party 8 is really fun, good party / family game. Also Super Paper Mario is great, very addictive.
-
thanks for the insight. is mario party 8 fun by yourself as well. Some feed back on pokemon for wii would be helpfull also.
-
It's more fun with 3 other people, but the AI is Ok to compete against, the mini games are fun and there are tons of them to keep you busy. I'm not too sure about Pokeman, never was a Pokeman fan, you may want to check Gamespot.com for reviews. If you are interested in 1 player games, again Super Paper Mario is fun.
-
I got RE4 for the wii...It real badd. The controls take a lil chapter or 2 to get accustomed to it, but other than that, it badd. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this 1 has all the extra stuff they threw in for the PS2.
-
Scar face: the world is yours. Its pretty damned fun...but wow If I had a kilo of coke for everytime this guy belt out a cuss.. I mean he does cuss EVERYTHING, I had him cuss up a plant in the bank for fun.
Aiming with the wii = ability to shoot with such precision that you can hit an enemies left or right nut, (yes you actually can)

It just keeps going and going and going...
Wii seen outselling PS3 by six to one
Big in Japan
By INQUIRER newsdesk: Tuesday 03 July 2007, 15:04
JAPANESE CONSOLE COUNTERS said Nintendo's Wii console outsold Sony's PlayStation 3 by six to one in Japan last month.
The success of the Wii and its wiggling stick is shocking onloookers. And on home turf, Nintendo is leaving Sony with barely a pot to point the proverbial at, as the world goes Wii nuts.
Japanese publisher Enterbrain reckons Nintendo sold 270,974 Wii consoles during June, while Sony sold 41,628 PS3s. Microsoft's Xbox 360 brought up the rear, notching up around 17,616 sales.
According to the firm that makes 2.76 million Wii consoles sold in Japan since it launched in December. Sony, with a month's head start, has sold less than a million PS3s.

EA introduces new play modes for Wii sports games
(http://www.gamepro.com/nintendo/wii/games/news/images/120248-1-1.jpg)
EA announces dual play modes for Wii sports games
The Wii versions of Madden NFL 08, NBA Live 08 and FIFA Soccer 08 will all include the new control mode.
"Family Play on the Wii creates an incredibly accessible and user-friendly experience that the whole family will enjoy," said EA Executive Producer Dave McCarthy in a statement. "While many fans love to control every piece of the action, novice players can have just as much fun jumping in to throw a touchdown pass, nail a three pointer or take a shot on goal."
The new play initiative omits the use of the Wii nunchuck focusing on basic moves only while Advanced Play includes nunchuck functionality for a full range of moves like in previous EA Sports games.

For those who wanted to use the Wii-mote as a lightsaber ...
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Wii)
By Patrick Joynt | July 6, 2007
Our exclusive hands-on with the Wii's first lightsaber!
We had the good fortune to visit LucasArts' San Francisco offices recently, to get an exclusive first hands-on with the upcoming Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. More to the point, we got to be the first people outside of LucasArts to use the Wii Remote, in its full motion-sensing glory, as a lightsaber in a videogame. And it was fun. If you love the original Lego Star Wars games for their charm, humor and visual style, then being able to swing your Wii Remote to slice your lightsaber through your adorable Lego foes is going to be delicious icing on the cake. The fresh content and revamped prequel levels won't hurt either. If you didn't enjoy the original games, and the sheer joy of swinging a controller to swing a lightsaber doesn't move you, we're not sure we have anything to say to you.
...
To use the Wii's functionality, the Complete Saga team essentially added a layer of motion-sensing controls over the primary set. You can press the Z button to build, but if you piston your arms up and down to pantomime the character's animation, you'll build much faster. Similarly, you can just press the Z button to use your Force powers, but if you direct them with the Wii's controls you'll get a much faster or more powerful response. Although it might not make it into the final build, blaster characters will probably be able to fire their grapples by flicking the remote from down to up. And, finally, you can use the Wii Remote to swing your lightsaber.
If you waggle the Wii Remote, a character armed with a lightsaber will swing it with the same abandon you swing. If you jump or double jump first, you'll perform a slam or super slam attack. In addition, if you swing when a bolt is incoming, you'll be able to swat away blaster fire (rather than just having to hold your lightsaber still). Swinging the lightsaber with the Wii Remote is a bit faster than just pressing the trigger, and the effects you generate more powerful, but the real payoff is simply swinging your "lightsaber" in real life.
We spent a good chunk of time playing as a few Force-using characters in the Wii version of the game -- Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon -- and were really pleased with the Wii control scheme. It's not the dueling game everyone is hoping for, but it fits the gameplay of Lego Star Wars and the Wii itself perfectly. It's fundamentally more fun to play Lego Star Wars swinging a lightsaber instead of clicking a trigger to make your character swing a lightsaber. LucasArts' task was to make the game a bit more ridiculously fun for adults but to keep it accessible for kids. It's a tall order, but one The Complete Saga looks ready to fill.

Nintendo introduces Wii device for feet
Super skateboarding, Super Waltzing and ski boarding Mario Bros pair
By INQUIRER staff: Wednesday 11 July 2007, 20:12
THE PEOPLE that created the Super Mario Bros and the infamous Wii console have introduced a new device which works with your feet.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo introduced a "balancing device" which no doubt will let you do virtual skateboarding and skiboarding and keep you fit.
The Japanese company has already astounded Sony by grabbing loads of sales from people who want to play virtual golf and the like and darts without setting a foot outside the house.
But now the "balance board" introduced at E3, according to the Journal, will let you do things like aerobics, pushups and other sporty things.
We're sure many of our readers remember the era of the "exercise bike", which are no doubt stored in attics and lofts for our grandchildren to find, and wonder about. A virtual Wii bike obviously occupies less space.
Dancing is also an obvious niche for Nintendo Wii games developers. Many people love dancing, and if you can be instructed by your TV and Nintendo Wii program to dance the Foxtrot or the Tango, then life could be a real bowl of cherries.
If the atmosphere continues to get a bit smoggier, and the temperature hotter, perhaps there will be a time when it's safer to stay in than venture out into the yellow mist outside, no doubt caused by nicotine addicts rather than people driving automobiles on the Yellow Brick Roa

SSBB Confirmed for 2007 release, December 3rd.!!

It seems like ages since Nintendo first showed off the Wii Zapper shell -- a controller add-on styled after the classic NES light gun, and a natural fit for the Wii. Shooting stuff with the Wii Remote is, after all, pretty much what the controller was made for. But while the Wii's seen a handful of first-person shooters since its launch, the Zapper's been missing in action since its hands-off debut.
Fans of shooty mayhem will be happy to know that Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced during today's E3 press conference that the Zapper will finally become a reality. Describing the shell as "the first offspring of the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk [attachment]," Fils-Aime showed off the final product: a submachine gun-style shell that uses the remote as the barrel and the Nunchuk as the back handle -- a design that resembles a two-handed version of Namco's GunCon 2 for PlayStation 2... except that it's not a hideous orange color.
Several third-party titles are earmarked to take advantage of the Zapper, including Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad, and Medal of Honor. A Wii version of Duck Hunt was conspicuous in its absence, but Fils-Aime did mention that the Zapper would launch later this year at $19.99 with software included. Duck Hunt would be a no-brainer (note to Nintendo: We'd also accept Gumshoe).
DUCK HUNT FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

Wii pours gold into Nintendo's coffers
Boppity bob
By INQUIRER staff: Wednesday 25 July 2007, 12:09
CONSOLE FIRM Nintendo saw its net profits soar by four times in its financial first quarter and said it expects its whole year profit to be 40 per cent over its previous estimate.
The firm turned in net profit of $669 million, on the back of sales that have doubled.
The firm's DS game machine is also doing pretty well.
The Wii is the ace in the console joker pack, particularly so as Sony isn't doing brilliantly with its Playstation III and Microsoft has headaches over hardware problems with its Xbox 360.
According to reports, the Wii outstripped Praystation sales last month by four to one in America. µ

Ok so I'll be out of the country for good as of next month's end, and would like to try to get on the net at least once with my little white box. The problem I have is that I don't want to waste any money on a router just like dat cuz my home is made of 8"(not 100% on this) Concrete blocks filled with cement and steel, and I would like to know beforehand if anyone has any ideas on how I should approach this. The router would most likely have to be positioned in a room upstairs while the wii would be in a room downstairs. Usin Flow btw.
-
Well i finaly get my wii to do the update, now is just to do the last update so i can use the shop chanell and wii conn. 24.
Thank god!

I read an article yesterday which I conveniently cannot find today that said the Wii is now in the lead as MOST 'next-gen' consoles sold.. outselling the Xbox 360 by a narrow margin which is expected to increase. It also said the Xbox was outselling the PS3 for the first time and the PS3 is doing pretty badly... the Wii has won this round.
-
whereTF is the COrruption crew? Alyuh men SLACKING!!!
Wii hasnt won anything yet. I wouldnt put anything past the competitors wrt to sales....its a long distance race. After SSB and Mario and Mario Kart what else we got to wait for? Thats untill the middle of next year.
Im still waiting to see the rabits to be pulled out of hats from the companies

From Gamespot:
Oblivion engine Wii-vamped
When asked if Epic Games ever planned to release a game on the Nintendo Wii, studio vice president Mark Rein famously said the console "couldn't handle" the Unreal Engine 3. This week, though, California-based Emergent Game Technologies, makers of the easy-on-the-eyes Gamebryo Engine, announced they had specifically optimized their game tech to work on the Wii as part of Nintendo's Third Party Tools program.
"With the success of Nintendo's Wii console catching much of the industry off guard and offering fresh interactive features, developers need new tools to be able to develop for multiple platforms that offer vastly different capabilities and require different programming techniques," said Emergent CEO Geoffrey Selzer in a statement.
Though Sid Meier's Pirates! and the forthcoming Warhammer Online also use the Gamebryo engine, it is most famous for powering Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). Though no Gamebryo-powered title has yet been announced for the Wii, a likely candidate is the console-tailored 2008 strategy title Civilization Revolutions, given that its PC cousin Civilization IV uses the engine.

use the force and toss your 360's and Ps3's in a corner, the Force will be Unleashed on the Wii
Ever since Nintendo unveiled its new videogame console, players have fantasized about the possibility of an original Star Wars game in which the Wii remote would effectively become a Jedi's lightsaber. It's taken publisher Ubisoft much longer than expected, but on Tuesday it revealed that it is indeed working on a project that will make use of Nintendo's controller in exactly that fashion. A Wii iteration of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will, according to the company, give players "
the chance to live out their fantasies by wielding the Wii remote as a lightsaber while using the nunchuk controller to torment foes with their Force powers." Sold.
The Force Unleashed has already been announced and previewed for next-generation systems, but today's news marks the first mention of a Wii build. In a twist, gamers star as Darth Vader's secret apprentice as he attempts to rid the galaxy of Jedi in a story set between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
"The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."
The Wii build of The Force Unleashed is in development by Krome Studios and is set for release during 2008's spring season. The game will add an exclusive duel mode in which "players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master."
My Wii is ready.............I just wish the graphics were Next Gen though, it would make it great.

Wi-Fi play in brawl confirmed yesterday, looks ok. Definitely gonna have to get that router now...
-
when brawl releases i want to fight all of ya over wi fi! :violent5:
-
i need the following games for my wii, really really badly:
call of duty 3, moh heroes 2, metroid prime 3, brawl, star wars the force unleashed.(obviously 4 the games that i listed that havent been released yet, i still need em especially brawl!)
-
if i were you i would cross off the first one there.....COD 3 not good atawl....rented it and meh.
-
i may be younger than y'all but i can tell whats good and what isn't, the only reason i want cod3 is cuz i liked the 360 version and plus, cod 3 4 wii isn't good or bad its mediocre, so maybe u should play the games be4 u diss em, and if that ain't workin, then ur just a nintendo hater
-
(not speaking to shivadee on that comment)
-
cod 3 4 wii isn't good or bad its mediocre
....
continues reading dictionary
-
lol look at its score on ign or gamespot
-
Lemme make it clear to you now. If you played COD 3 on 360 and pick it up for Wii you will put it down in 10 mins...or less....guaranteed. If not...well you will be the first in about 5-6 people i know who followed suit. Rent it from JK...i think JK has it or Off the Wall or w/e. Or borrow it from a friend if you can. you will see what i mean after playing it. Controls are laggy.
Galaxy is releasing Nov 12 i think and Dec is Brawl. You dont need COD, you need Metroid 3 ;)
-
lol @ larry is a nintendo hater
lolololol
-
i don't care how much or whatever shit(not dissin your posts) u posted, but, u give anybody who has never met u an impression that u don't like nintendo, so if i were u, i'd check myself be4 i start dissing anyone or any game so shut the f**k up, there are other ppl in this world besides me and u that share similar opinions regarding our posts and points of view, and please note that i may be a fan, but i can tell what aspects of wii and nintendo's marketing strategy have flaws(very few but important). And personally, i like original, bought(by me) consoles, not hijacked and imitation crap that stores like nanan's sell. So just end the argument and get back discussing rather important wii topics. :protest:
u didn't even have to reply to my posts you're the 1 lookin 4 argument(leartes)
I get your point Shivadee
-
please direct yourself to the MODIFY button next time instead of posting 2-3 times in succession.
-
well, not so much as to hate nintendo, but u sometimes diss 'em unecessarily( i couldn't care less how i spell that), like for instance, "he entitled to buy into their marketing despite how weak it is", u can't possibly tell me that a console that has outsold its competitors, if not outsold 360 almost there, has a weak marketing system, i mean seriously! and just 4 the record, i haven't looked for your other posts in the other topics so u can't blame me. AAAANNDDDD, u had no right to insult me in the first place.
-
Sooo...how bout that Snake ppl?...more special attacks than you can shake a wiimote at. It's so sad that the high point of my day is that update site.
*prays that soul calibur legends is not total $h!t*
-
y?
-
well sorry dey, ah didn't know u were talkin bout cod 3, it just how yuh say it had geh meh mad, cuz i really doh like it when ppl shit up nintendo(i get it now u didn't do that), hard lucks :ko:
-
"doh like it when ppl shit up nintendo?"
if nintendo do shit they look for it......just like anyone else.
What i want to see is where Wii is heading after Mario Kart early next year. Their prime launch is exhausted now...so i hope to see some innovative titles comming out.
marketing strategy works though. Pull the target crowd in now, essentially those that dont play games, they "stupid" so they will be talking bout Zelda a year after its released and act like its brand new (if you know what im heading it) This target niche doesnt exactly keep up with launch dates and releases.
-
i agree in a way(about if nintendo do shit dey look 4 it), but wen considering the wii's success they can't afford to do shit
dang everything i said is on the previous page

unfair.....apprentice.... :crybaby2:
i'd like to make a new topic called "official wii number (or contact) list". But then one of u mods will lock it.... so i won't bother
-
Ok, fellas, just a little FYI ... check out a site like www.gamerankings.com (http://www.gamerankings.com) for reviews on games (old and new). This would give you a little background on whether a game takes full advantage of Wii's controller (like Metroid Prime 3) or is just an add-on feature that makes a game almost unplayable (SSX). Then, any and all opinions will/should be taken more seriously by some of the more experienced members of the forum. Also, gamerankings averages review scores from multiple sources so a game with a low score generally is bad and vice versa.
-
unfair.....apprentice.... :crybaby2:
i'd like to make a new topic called "official wii number (or contact) list". But then one of u mods will lock it.... so i won't bother
Well the Wii is entitled to said topic....So start it and we'll see how it goes....
But I'll sticky it if it does well...
But for now I guess you could use the Wii Sweatage topic.. makes sense...
I was also thinking of merging 360 sweatage with the tag list, as well as PS3 sweatage with PSN ID's....
-
no one's posting on wii sweatage and plus isn't that for organizing sweats? y'know how it has xbox live gamertag list and regular 360 sweatage, both different? thats what i'm talkin bout sumthin different from sweats. i want to start it when brawl comes out

Nintendo's whole online meeting thing is non existant. You cant hookup and just ole talk like i do with Arcman and Redlum on LIVE. You cant talk sh!t in combat like we do in HALO. Yuh cant even bug ppl like i do on my PS3.
I understand the purpose of friend codes, but ......Wii sweatage will only be at ppl's houses. I mean you play BRAWL online and you cant even talk sh!t with or to the next man :P you fight him....and dont even know if he want to play again or not :P
well....we can actually do a 3 way skype or MSN or something voicechat
-
so wat if u can't talk? u can still send instant messages in brawl even in the middle of a fight
-
Instant messages that must be set before playing...like...taunts. Melee for me at least is plenty about the shit talk during the fight. Not that this wi-fi play not dread, just that voice chat would be very very cool for brawl imo. shit talk doesnt mean belittling or debasing anybody, like what does go on in cyber cafes etc. (noob and name callin etc.), but just for the hell of it.
-
so wat if u can't talk? u can still send instant messages in brawl even in the middle of a fight
u hadda b crazy if during a fight you gonna, start--->menu---->msg.....abc..a.....abc...b.....mno....o.....
:P
Im sure you've been on LIVE or PS3 online to experience how voicechat is with friends in a game.
is sh!t talk all thru the game.....before, during and after.
Other night on HALO i talking to cowsquad bout stuff in my career while playing a deathmatch....when someone die you hear in the middle of the conversation..."yea so what we did was....oh geewwwwwwd!!! who get dat!" those things are real fun
msg :P emoticons still cant be the same, its like msg'ing in WoW compared to Vent in raid. Much less co ordinated, much less fun
-
ROFL @ "otacon, what's that lizard thing?"
-
shivadee that's not what i'm talking bout, u set a specific message to a button and when u press the button during a fight, your message comes up above your character's head, PS3 people, please don't get mad at me for saying this, but so far brawl's online play looks better than any of ps3 online games with or without a headset(PLEASE CONSIDER MY REQUEST BEFORE RESPONDING!!!!!)
-

:dropjaw: Man saying Brawl online play "looking" better than any PS3 online game...those are some big words...Where's your proof?
-
Yes, Have YOU considered what you're saying? The fact that brawl only supports wi-fi is by itself a handicap for online play, after that they had little choice in the way of in-game communication it seems. Those messages are little better than taunts. As for "looking better" than anything ps3 has to offer, I personally simply cannot wait for brawl (more so after today's update), but that is a very, VERY fickle argument there. rainbow 6 vegas, resistance, warhawk, tekken 5...what were you saying again?
-
oh sure! just sharing my opinion with u guys, but you want to drain my chakra, and get mad, see? this is why using other sites' forums is good for health and opinion sharing dammit! c'mon ppl why u gotta be like that?

WTF, why are you draining my Chakra?? I didn't touch yours, you draining the wrong Chakra buddy...It wasn't me, and who got mad?? All I did was ask you to provide proof.
there I added 1 Chakra, happy now?
-
sorry man i put yours back
-
All this fightin bout chakra and wii online better than ps3 online and all this stuff :shakehead:. Ah well.
Btw, headsets is one of the best things about online gaming, without 1 it's just like playin singleplayer with smarter A.I. :cowboy:

Nintendo delivers a condom for Wiimote
Protective rubbery thing can be ordered for free
By Theo Valich: Wednesday, 03 October 2007, 7:14 AM
Falk AdSolution
DOMINANT AND UNEXPECTED leader in the world of consoles, Nintendo - has just taken further steps to passively increase confidence of Joe Six-packs worldwide, who have a poor grip on their Wiimotes.
The outfit has introduced a rubbery condom thingy called Wii Remote Jacket and it now comes by default with every new Wii console. Even if the Wiimote detaches from your hand, and flies through the air, it should not cause major damage to your telly. This might also be just the trick for games like tennis, or Mario Soccer, where two players might hit each other hard with controllers, while trying to slam dunk or get that mega-ball goal.
And now Wi-owners can get a free Wii Remote Jacket from Nintendo, just by asking for one.
There is little doubt who's winning the PR war of consoles, and currently that war is also dominated by number of sold units. While Microsoft has a problem called console build quality (caused by cutting down price everywhere Ballmer stepped in), and Sony is constantly cutting down features of PS3 (PS2 compatibility is going the way of do-do birds), this is second time that Nintendo is offering something free for console owners.
Shipping will start on October 15th, but you can re order the protective thing now, just by using our complementary L'Inq.
For your information, the form will require that you put in the serial number of your console, and this offer is limited for US and Canada.
So having said Nintendo does good PR, it goes and shoots itself in the foot outside North America. But we're sure it will see the error of its ways.

oh gaw neospartan, this ain't ur business, and dey bound to bring out a wireless headest sooner or later, but for people whho can still appretiate the wii and its badness(some of u may disagree), well for those people, we doh bound to play with a headset aiight? as long as de game good, we doh biz, talk done right dey.
-
Its a fighter....first priority is lag issues. If Nintendo's servers can handle that kind of bandwidth. They arent online focused, their servers are designed to take the load of what LIVE has. Given Nintendo's Wii sales, they were unprepared for the huge way the system is recieved. They obviously are well aware now as well as the judgement of the large number of Brawl preorders. But we are not hearing anything, anywhere of Nintendo annoucing any kind of online upgrades with their servers, meaning were talking P2P play like with DS. Now it comes down to who has crappy connections and who doesnt. A 4 player simultaneous Brawl times 100,000 people doing that. Thats a hella lot of bandwidth..and we arent even talking headset voice chat yet.
How many people you know are online with their DS compared to those offline? Nintendo wants you to not need HD, not need 5.1 but you must have wireless.....thats ridiculous..people that dont have HD and 5.1 MOST likely dont have WiFi either....they have a straight hardline to their single PC. Not to also mention Wireless is the worst way to game, your broadband width is alot slower....lag issues again and sometimes connection loss.
I am excited about how Brawl is going to be online...but all people are saying "woot ONLINE!" without any idea as to what that means.
-
i get where your coming from, i also read something on the smash bros website where surkai or whatevr his name is, he said,"because this kind of connection greatly depends on distance, your brawls might not run as smoothly". Like from here to japan, you'll expect a lot of lag and frame skipping, especially the kind of sh1tty connection provided bt TSTT, but they supposed to update de speed and FLOW supposed to be a hell of a lot faster than TSTT, but even though, we can expect a few issues, but that wouldn't stop us from having a good time playing it, get me? I don't expect nintendo to f*** this one up though, it will be an excellent game, stab me if it's not (plz don't).
-
 TSTT upgrading soon to about 10+mbs in a week which is almost twice as fast as flow's fastest and 40 times faster than my connection :awesome:

alright, who's the wise guy who drained my chakra?!

i've been looking at super mario galaxy and i'd like to hear what you guys have to say about it(allyuh opinion)
-
i see, but look at mario party 8, ign and the others stated that they didn't make use of the wii remote like they should've, that was supposed to be one of the best party games ever
-
i guess, but correct me if i'm wrong, but galaxy, from what i've seen so far looks a bit....i dunno....kiddy? the graphics and stuff look great, but from the looks of it, just kids will be attracted to it, what about the older guys who love mario? would they be a bit disappointed? i know i wouldn't, i would play any mario game once it's score is good enough. Mario sunshine had me going for years, i know this will most likely do the same.....*hopefully*
-
Disappointed how? Older mario gamers appreciate the core gameplay of Mario games and just hoping that that gameplay is intact and built upon is close to an ideal. Kiddy is probably not the best word to describe tho
-
Besides, how 'adult' can a game featuring a fat plumber in a red and blue suit possibly be?
Let's NOT go there *W1nTry shudders at the thought of what some freaks out there will come up with*
-
ohhhh W1NTRY, don't get the wrong idea lol, and also kiddy was the only word besides childish i could think of to best describe it. But anyway, it's either galaxy or fifa 08 i gettin with brawl on christmas.(i so wish i could get all 3)
-
shiv makes a fine point about wireless being less than ideal.
amazing that is positioned as the broadband option of choice for Nintendo. Guess I'll soon find out first hand how wise (or foolhardy) a decision that proved to be.
Galaxy looks fantastic.
Yes, it "looks" like it's targeting a younger crowd and guess what, mario games always did. It isn't Halo or Resident Evil, that's for sure. lol
I agree with Kaguya. It appeals to the kid at heart. The gameplay has always been fun, regardless of the cartoony appearance. The general theme of nintendo overall. Definitely gonna get that game as soon as it is released.
Either way, from all previews thus far, it should be much better than mario sunshine.

WII SYSTEM UPDATE AVAILABLE!!!
-
s-s-sonic i-i-s i-in b-brawl?
-
really looking forward to brawl.
Wii has been great.
so far so fun. especially now that we got another controller.
Picked up the Wii Play game(s) today to get a second wiimote. They really help bring home the usefullness of the innovative controlers. Got a better appreciation for their potential after playing those games. They should have been included right out of the box!
The multiplayer mini games are a fun and yet still physical way to bond with your kid.
Wii warning for other parents: watching a 10 year old play metroid prime 3 can cause motion sickness. lol
-
Yeass I'll attest to RE4: Wii Edition. Had the original for cube and played it to the point where I remembered where the enemies would be and where the treasures were in this one.
Enjoyed Leon's new costume + Typewriter. Have to start professional mode the second time to get the PRL412 still tho...so worth it.
Was it difficult to get the wii btw?

Wanna rethink those statements? *snicker* :laughing7:
-
Chakra for that...
Incidentally...who played princess peach?
-
wrt to the statement about Mario not being for adults.
It is a fact that nintendo owns 10 percent of the videogame market.....for QUITE a while now. Mario, Zelda and Pokemon are exclusive to the Nintendo and is THE reason why many adults buy this system for their kids.
They do branch out of course....but it is always third party: Goldeneye, Eternal Darkness, RE4 and even Manhunt 2. Nintendo does not RELY on these companies to sell their product, its a plus. They have their target niche and their core group. The Wii just reinforces the fact that they stay true to that market while appealing to another that is yet untapped till now, the non gamer.
its a brilliant strategy. Nintendo have always focused on the fun factor. In the "power up" book i read where japanese games are discussed as THE reason the videogame industry was saved in the first place they interview the lead directors and creators of Eternal Darkness.
Actually nintendo wanted it exclusive to see if they can appeal to the larger audiences. Miyamoto watched the early version of the game and sucked his teeth.....*bad sign*.....he said "think fun". The developers didnt know that those 2 words span the entirety of a genre and a platform. The end result was obviously one of the most impressive and original games for the gamecube.
-
hahahhahah @ ron jeremy as mario. priceless.
getting the Wii was no worries at all. Junior hooked me up (owner of JK).
I agree with shiv's take on nintendo's strategy. looking over at the latest console sales figures, it's obviously working for them.
Leading the pack.

Well said, and, I LOVE NINTENDO!!!!
and btw, i never said mario isn't for adults.
ATTENTION! THIS MAY CAUSE DEPRESSION FOR WII GAMERS!!! SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL IS DELAYED TILL FEBRUARY NEXT YEAR(2008)
-
yeah, I just got the news about Brawl being delayed till February.
Naruto will have to fill the "fighting" void in the meantime.
-
sources?
-
[sigh] it's all over the net! IGN, Gamespot, smashbros.com!!! from the director himself
-
heh easy for you to say, i'm still tryin to get over it, i wonder if it has to do with sonic's late envovlement
-
hmmmm, eh, the first reason makes more sense

well, the games in general got good reviews and high scores, so... i'm happy with wii
-
nice additions laertes. thanks for the heads up
-
Just read where the Donkey Kong barrel blast game turned out to be a steaming pile of horse detritus. lol
scratch that from the "must buy" list.
On the other hand, Bleach got good reviews, as did Victorious Boxers: Revolution based on the anime boxing series Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo in Japan)
/me plays lotto
-
shall we talk about another game then?
-
rten (htf do you pronounce that?) have you found any joy in online multiplayer with the wii?
thus far, I'm not impressed with that aspect of the console at all.
-
pronounce it as "are-ten" and, the only online wii game i have is pokemon battle revolution, i'm supposed to get mario strikers charged later this week, but if there's anything to say about pokemon's online is that it's entire make up was 'clumsy' and looked rushed in many ways, despite that, it can keep you entertained for hours depending on who you are( this does not apply entirely to me), but from what i've read about strikers is that it's online is by far better than battle rev, with the addition of ranked matches and whatever. But something still bothers me and its the fact that mp3 corruption has no online or offline multiplayer support, i got it 2day and i must say it claims the title of 'wii's best game' so far. I play pokemon every now and then and i use windows instant messenger to communicate with my friends who i battle.
-
yeah, I am very impressed with mp3's game play mechanics, deep storyline and lore. Brilliant game. it's fun.
multiplayer would have been a nice addition
The strikers is on my wish list. Hearing of it's multiplayer prowess takes it a few notches up. thanks
-
no prob, but i have a problem...i really don't know which one to get: FIFA 08 or MARIO STRIKERS CHARGED....what a catastrophy, i guess if fifa gets a higher score than strikers i'll buy it....but then again i've been waitin on strikers for a month now.
-
Just my 2cents, I love strikers for everything its worth. and the online rocks. (till you meet freakin del piero who kicks your butt left right and center...) :P
-
......my problem remains unanswered.....
-
yeah it got a 8.4 BRILLIANT!!!
-
its following the american timeline tho. i see jiraiya, and they say they now 'introduced' temari and tenten so i assume they have all the characters from NGNT3. it looks much better than the original tho, but other than that, theres nothing that will make me run out and grab this....online play sounds promising tho, is not like men will have to go outta the way to make a challenge and such...*waits for backlash*
-
they didn't state online play.....
-
orr my bad, it said that they were hoping for multiplayer. apologies
-
I'm biased, but I'll leave the fifa 2008 for the PC platform and definitely go for Strikers on the wii. (PC should offer better graphics and multiplayer options imo)
chakra for the naruto review link. if the game gets online play that would be reason enough to drop the $49.99
judging from the review, it's not enough of an improvement over the japanese imports to justify the spend. Aside from the convenience of not needing a loader to get the game going.
also, I am VERY skeptical about the wiimote and nunchuck for competitive play over a gamecube controller. (could just hear my son moaning about controller issues when I whoop his ass, lol)
can't wait for the shippuden characters to drop in the next title. that won't reach american soil for a while though (without a loader that is), stress
-
fellas! we have fifa 08, and mario strikers! why we doh organize sweats eh? (i'm gettin fifa this week, not strikers), dis woh be bess, even without a mic, we could still do ingame texts....

Modding just got harder...
Chinese help Nintendo crack down on mod chips
Wii purge
By Nick Farrell: Tuesday, 23 October 2007, 3:24 PM
THE HONG Kong High Court ordered police to raid a plant that was making copying devices and mod chips for Nintendo DS and Wii machines.
The move, carried out at the request of Nintendo, resulted in the seizure of more than 10,000 game copying devices and mod chips from the Supreme Factory Limited plant.
It took three days for Inspector Knacker of the Hong Kong Yard to carry out all the chips, which Nintendo claims breach its copyrights and trademarks.
The gizmos seized allow punters to copy and play Nintendo DS games offered unlawfully over the Internet, and the mod chips allow the play of pirated Wii discs or illegal copies of downloaded Nintendo games.
According to Gamasutra, among the pile of papers also found at the plant was evidence which the Chinese coppers think link the operation to a French company, Divineo and its
principal, Max Louarn.
The court ordered the outfit's assets frozen and blocked Supreme Factory from further distribution of the devices and from shifting its assets worldwide. All the company's assets have been frozen pending outcome of the legal proceedings.
-
interesting news.
Online play (or the promise of it) was my motivating factor for not modding the wii. I've heard the newer units are difficult to mod as well.
as soon as we get strikers (a month or two), will take you on rten.

Excellent news for old time Dreamcast owners:
Samba de Amigo officially official
Sega salsas with Gearbox to revive acclaimed Dreamcast rhythm game for Nintendo's console next spring.
By Tom Magrino, GameSpot
Posted Oct 25, 2007 12:14 pm PT
Sombreros, monkeys, and maracas are a recipe for success any day of the week. Inclined to agree, Sega today officially revealed that it would be reviving the Dreamcast classic Samba de Amigo with a Wii version of the game, aptly titled Samba de Amigo. The decidedly Japanese take on Latin culture is slated to shake its way exclusively to the Wii in spring 2008.
What a happy little monkey.
Speculation over whether Sega's musically inclined monkey would hit Nintendo's latest console took off after a blurb for the game appeared in the final in-house published issue of Nintendo Power several weeks ago. Sega finally officially confirmed today that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk would replace the at-the-time outrageously priced maracas that were necessary to take full advantage of the original game.
Sega also confirmed that it would be reviving some of the more popular songs from the original game as well as adding in a number of new samba-infused tunes. Gameplay will be much like the original, where players keep a beat to the music by shaking the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in time with onscreen indicators.
In a radical departure from its previous offerings, Gearbox Software will be developing Samba de Amigo. It's the first rhythm game for the Texas-based studio, which is best known for first-person shooters such as the Brothers in Arms series. It's also the second game Gearbox and Sega are collaborating on, with the pair developing a sci-fi FPS based on the film Aliens. Other upcoming Gearbox games include the recently delayed Brothers in Arms Hells Highway for Ubisoft and the sci-fi shooter/RPG hybrid Borderlands for 2K Games.

Nintendo's six-month sales, profit double
Game giant takes $1.16 billion profit as Wii installed base surpasses 13 million worldwide; international sales of DS near 54 million.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Oct 25, 2007 11:55 am PT
A month after it first took the honor, Nintendo today was once again named the second-most valuable corporation in Japan. Like its rival Sony, the Kyoto-based game giant has also reported its results for the six months ending September 30, which saw both its revenues and profits double.
Sales for the half-year totaled ¥694.80 billion ($6.10 billion), a 132 percent increase over the revenue brought in during the same stretch of time in 2006. Nintendo's net profits grew even faster: The company took home ¥132.42 billion ($1.16 billion) for the half-year, almost 144 percent more than it earned in the comparable period last year. Such huge percentage increases in the game maker's financial fortunes are likely done with for now, given that future results will be compared against the company's strong performance in the wake of the Wii launch.
Nintendo attributed its success to a strong lineup of DS games such as Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (6.95 million sold for the half-year) and the Brain Age series (5.19 million sold in six months). Hardware-wise, the company sold 13.35 million DS systems for the half-year, which brought the lifetime installed base up to 53.64 million worldwide.
The Wii also played a big part in the company's success. The company sold 7.33 million Wii systems in the first half of its fiscal year, which brought the worldwide installed base up to nearly 13.17 million. Mario Party 8 was the only Wii game for which sales figures were provided (2.89 million), but Wii Sports (which is sold separately from the system in some countries) and Wii Play (which comes bundled with a Wii Remote) were said to enjoy "favorable sales."
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008, Nintendo is expecting to rack up sales of ¥1.55 trillion ($13.61 billion), 60 percent higher than the previous year, with net income up almost 58 percent to ¥275 billion ($2.41 billion).

interesting news.
Online play (or the promise of it) was my motivating factor for not modding the wii. I've heard the newer units are difficult to mod as well.
as soon as we get strikers (a month or two), will take you on rten.
Thing is, i'm not getting (or got) strikers anymore, its FIFA 08 for mii now. Sorry....
-
how come? pissed your parents off or what?
unless fifa 08 on PC could play against Wii's you're gonna be sol. lol
-
no i chose it, couldn't help it lol. But I like it, the players are detailed really well (see them up close to truely see where it has gone beyond 07) and some of animations are funny and the game plays generally well, but a few bumps in the road though....but it's highly addictive i must say.
-
lol, I understand
do you still plan to get strikers at some point? Christmas comin up!
-
not sure....i guess i can, here's the games i plan to get 4 christmas:-
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Super Mario Galaxy( either this or Strikers)
Reservation for Brawl lol
Wii thread dead or what?
-
dude...
what crawled up your butt and died..he just asked one question....
yikes...
-
lol, larry yuh come out swinging.
in other Wii news, just got a second nunchuck today and Zelda.
woohoo!
Really looking forward to that boxing game now.
Toyman tells me the Bleach game is pretty decent too.
My son just finished MP3 last night and could not stop ranting about it being his best gaming experience ever. Tough act for Link to follow now but I am sure he is up to the task.
Thank you Nintendo!
-
Thanks 4 da news guys. But I just asked ONE question and yuh makin a scene yuh didn't even have tuh answer i just said it for so, y'know? Do wha allyuh want yes... just one insignificant question....just one...but dye no scene too.
-
the only thing of significance now on the Wii is Mario due out very soon.
I rented FIFA for the Wii and it is complete @ss.....Tiger Woods is comming in tomorrow. Hope that one is bettter.
No need to defend the Wii, like i care anyway what ppl think, eventually the 3rd party companies will catchup with Nintendo's genius. As of now the Wii doesnt have much to talk about simply because these 3rd party companies are only now catching on and catching up. Im still waiting to see what happens to the Wii post Mario Kart/Brawl
-
no, we still have zelda and mp3, so u cant say the only significance the wii has now is mario galaxy(november) and fifa 08 wasn't all that bad, i mean sure the controls aren't meant for it so much but it sets a fine example for nintendo's online, and there is an improvement in the graphics over 07 (if anyone couldn't see it), so whatever wii's gonna do fine.....nothing to worry about.......right?
-
i would have to disagree.....next year ill be certain as to what will happen to Wii. They are deffinitely going to have to work on their online capability for Brawl rather than friend codes. A rank system at least.
Dred.......FIFA was THAT bad. Everytime im trying to volley im chest trapping, everytime im trying to lob shot im faking.....terrible response to the controls. THe only thing that works is the throw in system. I was getting it for my friends in Trini to play when i go home for christmas. Since they always watch us play FIFA but find it too complicated......this isnt complicated though....but it really swaps for a pain in the ass.
-
that's strange, but it doesn't give trouble for me except when i try to perform different tricks, that's a pain, and i agree with your brawl view, nintendo wi-fi connection is the worst online experience jeez, they need to give us what we want not what they think is the 'safest' way for players to connect if you know what i mean by that.
>>>new post by me
eh fellas when Medal of Honor heroes 2 supposed to release on wii again? i 4get, furthermore, was it playable in E for All? i dunno what ppl had to say about it
>>>> new again
I BEAT MP3 CORRUPTION TODAY!!! WOOOOOOOOOT!!!! BEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
-
Don't forget their anime titles are gold too. (Bleach, Naruto and Victorious Fighters)
Another niche-ish market right there with those titles. Tried any of those shiv? especially the bleach and VF since they make use of the wiimote.
lol @ best game I've ever played.

If the shortage of Wii's at stores is any indication, I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about. Remember, they are marketing this system towards a different demographic than the normal gamer. These are people who may not want to play online and may not care to have more than a couple games. I know quite a few people at work who have a Wii and are perfectly satisfied with Wii Sports and a couple other games.
As for gamers like us, we just have to deal with the fact that the Wii may never be a viable online platform. We just have to enjoy it with a room full of friends like back in the day with the N64. Third parties will eventually wise up to the control options and develop great games with great controls. You can think of it in the same way as other system's graphics capabilities. You tend to see games with the best graphics on a system years after the system's launch (with some first party exceptions). With the Wii, it will be a similar case but with the controls (again with first party exceptions). As a last note, I definitely think EA will be up to the task once they feel out the system for a couple years as they do with all other systems.

if you would spend 10 minutes navigating our forum you would have noticed by now that we have an 'Internet Video Thread' i nthe Rum Shop section.

come on rten, don't go riling up laertes. he is one of the good guys, lol.
funny Larry, I just just checked out Fire Emblem myself. Not overly impressed by the lack of wiimote implementation though.
Really looking to throw my money behind wiimote heavy titles, since they feel more "wii-ish" rather than buying a game that could have been played just as well on the regular cube, PC or any other platform for that matter.
Just got Red Steel borrowed. Going to try that out this weekend.
-
......w/e......man
anyway, i actually enjoyed fire emblem on GBA, never played it on gamecube so i dunno what to expect from this one. And in IGN's video review of MP3, they said something about red steel's controls, i believe it had to do with the aiming sensitivity, they described it as "baby mode" so i'm not gonna bother with it anymore. In other words it's best said to NEVER play corruption on the basic setting, never tried it myself, but one warning is enough to keep me away from it.
-
lol, mengsk also warned about the sensitivity of the controls for red steel. well I'll soon find out myself.
nuff heads up immc.
-
lol
-
well, I've tried my hand at the red steel and you guys were right.
It's not on MP3s level at all. While the wiimote is no match for the mouse and keyboard combo, it proved very effective for Samus.
Not so in red steel. I was practically screaming for my mouse and keyboard. I won't blame it so much on sensitivity though but rather game mechanics. MP3, you can take a world of hurt and shoot with reckless abandon. Seldom feeling impotent in a close quarters combat situation.
In red steel, it is quite the opposite. Get sam pat by three to four guys and you're flailing around like an idiot in a science quiz. Feeling helpless and hopeless, then you die. Quickly. The accuracy doesn't feel spot on for long distance firefights either. To make matters wose, there are times when my shots were clearly off target, yet the game gives me a bligh and drops the enemy. That sort of "assistance" doesn't sit nicely with this gamer. I'd like to earn my kills fair and square, thank you very much.
Granted, I am not going to rush into rooms anymore to avoid such gang bangings, but maybe after a bit more practice, I'll be able to do so and not feel totally inept.
Time to swing blade like a mad man.
-
wait so cyah post 'lol' by itself? well then, um....
>>>lol, well i know now to stay away from red steel, it was a release title so i thought it was good
-
that's how zelda twilight princess was the most anticipated title for the wii's release.
-
yes, i know they held back the original gamecube version a whole year just to port it over to wii with the different control scheme and all, but it IS one of the highest rated games on wii despite the fact that it uses a modified version of the wind waker engine, but as you said they use the older platforms as a base, and yes it is more of a gamecube title, but it didn't get a 9.5/10 for nothing, in fact, both versions received a 9.5, not sure really, i have to go back and check, point is the zelda games are real great and twilight princess is no exception. oh yeah, OMG!!!! ocarina lost it to halo 3?! noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
-

I agree to a certain extent that "Wii-ish" titles are the main reason to own the system but there are some like Fire Emblem that are great without the whole Wii control makeover. When you think about it, the only thing really "missing" from a turn-based strategy game like Fire Emblem is motion controls. It could be debated that this is not a terrible omission because the gameplay is not as dependent on the controls and may or may not be easier to control with motion controls.
-
7.9 huh? not bad, could've done better, but er...good work nonetheless, brawl will have to make up for this.
-
scores under 8 aren't low, just that it shows the game is getting there(towards a higher score of course), or that it could've done better, scores under 7 are the ones that need work, think about the games that u play that scored inbetween 7 and 8, were those games badly done? i think not, they were good so i don't look down on games below 8, once the game is good, we don't have a problem, do we?
-
no, no, no, trust me i catch your drift, what i was er... trying to say is that, ugh! now i have to the explaining. Ok just compare what i said to what you just said your last post, read it carefully, what i said was completely different and yet *some of us* can see my point and basically say, "Wow, he repeating what laertes said, just wit different words!"(i am not being disrespectful). I try to prove that to most people that games receiving a score from 6-7 or 7-8 are sometimes good and worth playing, and yet some of their opinions differ entirely. Take for example naruto clash of the ninja revolution, it got a 8.4(i think) that means the game gets a thumbs up and yet when i tell this one person about it and how good it is, he responds, "no hoss, doh buy dat game, it is [insert the alternate name for feaces here], de graphics and ting lookin too 'cartoony' a 8.4 not good, doh buy it". And i simply reply, "that's how they all are, doh get tie up, dey very good so doh come with dat outta timin' talk around me".

HOLY BALLS....9.7... all scores above 9.5 and two hitting 10?! jheeeezus.
PWN!!!!!!
-
I really hope the multiplayer in MOH pulls through. COD4 for it tho in any case.
After today's brawl update, it looks like Ness get the boot. If Ness does come back, then it looks like clones might make an appearance as well since Lucas is, despite the pointed-out differences, a badder Ness (bad-Ness?). Never been a fan of Ness, and IMO Lucas so far looks better.
and *sigh* once again my hopes were dashed (my heart was in my throat when I saw the Lyn assist trophy), after I saw the ultramegaomgwtfpwn-ness that is Frank Jaeger. Badder last-fight death scene than Aeris ANY DAY. Gray Fox Gray Fox Gray Fox.

/me looks for an interpreter to help him with Kaguya's post.
but yeah, those Mario Galaxy scores are out of this world, no pun intended.
No surprise really, it was on my "must buy" list regardless, lol

November 15, 2007 - Until last month, Nintendo's Wii and DS systems collectively held the top two spots on NPD's videogame hardware sales charts since November of 2006. Then, Master Chief stepped in to help Microsoft's Xbox 360 console edge past sales of Wii in September - if you're counting, by about 26,000 units; 360 sold through 527,000 consoles in September and Wii 501,000. Well, another month has come and gone and Nintendo's two platforms have reclaimed the number one and two positions in October, according to NPD.
Wii was the overall best-selling system for the month with 518,000 units moved. Another 458,000 people bought Nintendo's handheld, meanwhile. Some 366,000 people picked up an Xbox 360, 286,000 a PSP, 183,000 a PlayStation 2 and 121,000 a PlayStation 3.
Unsurprisingly, the best-selling game in October was Halo 3 with almost 435,000 units sold. The second best-seller was Guitar Hero 3 on Xbox 360 with about 380,000 in sales. Activision successfully tapped into the Nintendo audience, too, though, as Guitar Hero 3 for Wii was the third best-seller for the month with almost 290,000 units sold. It beat out Guitar Hero 3 on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, the latter of which didn't even make it into the top 10 best-sellers for the month. Wii Play continued its successful run with another 240,000 unit sold.
"It's the fastest-selling console that we can remember," Nintendo's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, said of Wii in a telephone conversation with IGN Wii. "And I think it's going to continue to get bigger."
Wii outsold Xbox 360 in October without having a Halo 3 killer. How? "It's apples and oranges. So many millions of people are enjoying the Wii experience and so many millions of others want to have it," said Kaplan. "It really, in many ways, has very little to do with the other companies. Those who are hardcore gamers are going to own several systems. And you have to remember that there are millions of gamers who have yet to experience Wii Sports for the first time."
Asked if she thought Halo 3's boost to Xbox 360 sales would represent a pique point for Microsoft's console, Kaplan responded, "I think time will tell. I just know that Nintendo has really true expansion that's going on in a pretty amazing way."
Going forward, Nintendo's focus is to make sure that "product gets into the hands of consumers." Kaplan declined to give exact monthly shipment numbers for Wii, saying only that the company is on target to release 17.5 million consoles globally by the end of its fiscal year. "We've raised our projections several times this year. We're ramping up production. Obviously, the demand is there."
Kaplan "absolutely does think" that Wii's hardware sales figures will be larger in November than they were in October. Sales will be spurred by the recent release of the company's flagship holiday title, Super Mario Galaxy, which debuted to rave critical reviews on November 12. So far, the game has performed "crazy good," according to Kaplan. "The launch of Galaxy has done really, really well. We're looking to put together some numbers for you soon."
The Nintendo executive believes that Wii will continue to sell phenomenally well through the holidays and that people will pick up the system just to play Wii Sports. This is partly why the company's next exercise-themed blockbuster, Wii Fit, won't hit stateside until next year, despite a planned Japanese release this December. "It was our calculated decision to really give Galaxy the legs that it needs and to allow the millions of buyers to fall in love with Wii Sports. We'll begin to move into [Wii Fit] next year. It's just different dynamics happening in the different market places. They chose to bring Wii Fit out there and I think that will do really well in Japan - it will be interesting to watch."
Kaplan said that she didn't believe Sony's PSP handheld would be able to catch DS in sales, saying of the handheld, "We're going to continue to blow through the roof."
When asked if third parties have begun to take notice of what fans have referred to as "Nintendomination," the continued sales success of Wii and DS, Kaplan said, "We've had great stuff going on all year, but we are starting to see different developers embrace the different ways in which they can develop for the system."

Wii fills record books down under
Magic moments
By Nick Farrell: Friday, 23 November 2007, 8:41 AM
NINTENDO'S bizarrely named Wii console is heading into the record books as one of the most successful games machines in history.
According to bean counters at GfK, Nintendo has managed to flog more than 200,000 Wii's in Australia in the last 50 weeks.
The only machines to reach that target in the past has been the PS2 and the Nintendo DS and they both took 55 weeks to hit the magic 200,000 units.
GfK pundit, Andrew Milgate said if Nintendo kept peddling the Wii with those sorts of figures, it would become the fastest-selling console of all time.
However it is not bad considering that there are very few games available for the Wii and most punters that do buy one of the beasts only own two.

Trauma Center New Blood
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Tiger Woods 08
decent games to pick up for the Wii if you lookin for new ones. The new Trauma Center very.....VERY mad. highly recommend. 2 player co op now and online rankings. Anyone that has not played Trauma Center really missing out on a unique game experience.
Sad to say Victorious Boxers sucks......BAD. I was hoping for a good boxing game.
MOH 2 actually has some sweet online play. So....fixup Wii owners. Get you FPS on. Truth be told from seeing this game, lighting effects make ALLLLL the difference with visual style
-
yup :p oh and i haven't tried out trauma center yet, honestly not really planning on buying it, renting it? yeah, along wit Naruto.....if i can find somwhere...
-
I have trauma cnetre on the Ds, one of the bEST games i have ever purchased based on innovation alone
So how would you guys compare it to the wii version? In other words, which is better?
-
:P
With the Trauma Center Series the newer the title the more they add and more fun it is.
New Blood is the best one to get right now. More voice dialogue, more instruments and a new story. But its all new characters in this one.
they keep adding more to the game. If you have never played Trauma Center though, any version you would like.
-
well, ok, but i still gotta try it out sooner or later, finally we in December!......24 more days! hell yeah!

This week marks a milestone for the Wii in Japan, and shows that the poor GameCube just wasn’t that loved by anyone. The Wii is at 4,025,356 unit sold (in 54 weeks), which beats the Cube’s total sales in that territory. It is an amazing feat, and an even more amazing turnaround for Nintendo in the console business.
To put things in better perspective, the Wii has reached what the DS reached in 53.7 weeks…so the platform is doing very well indeed. You can check out the chart below to see how the Wii is doing compared to the PS3.

VOICE CHAT STILL BEING CONSIDERED
Nintendo comments on the possibility of voice over IP on
the Nintendo Wii.
The Nintendo Wii is currently the only gaming system unable to give
players the ability to voice chat over the internet.
Though a few games have been released on the Wii featuring online play, none allow players
to converse through them.
It's a frustrating limitation.
During a question and answer session in a Nintendo conference call this morning, Reggie Fils-Aime addressed this issue.
According to Fils-Aime, the system is clearly capable of this function, and Nintendo
is constantly adding and tweaking
features of the Wii system through system updates. The issue boils down to locking
down the specific technologies
and getting the specific peripheral to allow voice chatting.
Fils-Aime noted that, since Nintendo found this tech and peripheral on the Nintendo DS, he "wouldn't be surprised at all" if the
feature appeared on Wii. "It's something we value and constantly look at."

How about upgrading the graphics first?? and then implementing voice with the Second Gen Wii...LOL They really should have made that part of the package originally.
-
Graphics huh? Well so far the majority of wii games are already great despite the fact that the graphics aren't what you would describe as "nex-gen", but the issue still reamains as it is concerning voice chat, i think making the wii more powerful will have to come after Nintendo has resolved the current issues(not refering to power).

Fatmitsu Gives Wii Smash Bros. Perfect Score
Posted by Victor Dangelo | Jan 16, 2008 12:03
Famitsu, the highly-respected gaming publication in Japan, has given Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii a perfect score.
Famitsu has only given out 6 perfect scores of 40/40 in its entire history of reviewing games.
It is a rare thing indeed that the publication gives out a perfect score. The other games to receive perfect scores in the past included..
-Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
-Soul Calibur
-Vagrant Story
-Zelda: Wind Waker
-Nintendogs
-Final Fantasy XII
-
I shall not trust those japanese guys... I'll wait till it's reviewed in our native language (not dialect XD).
-
Yeah, using his attacks would take lots of strategy and careful timing.
Oh and Shiek has also been confirmed.

The Wii selling 5 million consoles in Japan, that was a big deal. So selling six million Wiis in Europe, which Nintendo Europe have announced as having just happened, well, that is a bigger deal. Especially when you consider how poorly Nintendo treat their European customers! As well as announcing that figure, Nintendo also revealed that they've sold 20 million DS handhelds in the territory, which constitutes nearly a third of the 64 million sold worldwide. And finally, to anyone not suitably impressed/dismayed with those numbers: Nintendogs has sold eight million copies. Just in Europe.

Nintendo Project Leader Takashi Aoyama revealed the company's intention to add a Pay and Play service to future Wi-Fi-enabled Wii games during this year's Game Developers Conference.
Online-enabled Wii games have all been free of charge thus far. With "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play", however, users will be able to subscribe on a game-by-game basis to certain online titles.
Pay and Play titles will come with a red "Pay and Play" icon on the box instead of the traditional blue Wi-Fi Connection icon. Games marked with the regular Wi-Fi icon will still feature free online play.
Wii Points will be used for payment, although Aoyama did not detail the extent of the cost. The software expected to require payment is also unknown.
That is level BS!!! PS3 men watch allyuh back, dey wuh end up doin de same ting to allyuh.
-
???
Playstation online has been free since the days of PS2, plus they selling download content for quite a while now as well, why would this move cause Sony to shift to this kind of service? The PS3 console + games is already kinda expensive and all, this I think might piss off the fanbase just a *bit*. Nintendo announced the Pay-per-play motion very early in the wii's life as well, so this isn't really much of a surprise either.

Its NOT worth it man! NONE of the online-enabled games for Wii are worth paying for, for the online.... pay-per-play......steups.... Somebody gwoh bun dem down. I still say one of these days they will do de same for ps3. Another thing, remember the ps2 was a hit in the 6th Gen, there wasn't any need to make owners pay for online service, but they may need to make a profit cuz ps3's sales have lagged behind from the start, they catchin up tho.
I am open for being corrected
-
I hope they don't add brawl and mario kart to that "pay per play" list
-
WOW paying 4 each title, that sucks. Might as well make u pay to play all online games (that require it in the future) instead of payin for each one

I finally got a Wii!!!!!! I was in Best Buy yesterday lookin to get a prepaid Xbox Live Points card and I noticed a lady with a Wii in her shopping cart. I asked one of the blue shirt guys and he said that they have a bunch of them. I grabbed one up instantly along with Wii Play (for another Wiimote), another Nunchuk, a couple 2000 Wii Point cards and an Energizer battery charger (it came with 4 AA rechargables). Needless to say, I forgot about the Xbox Live Points card. I bought a few Virtual Console games: Paper Mario and Sin and Punishment for N64, Lords of Thunder for TG16, and Punch Out and Super Mario 3 for NES. All in all, a very nice day.
By the way, has anyone checked out the Wii weather and news channels? They are truly something else. Just for the hell of it, I went in and set them up. The weather channel is nice with current weather for your location (or any other) but the news channel is amazing. I like how it displays a ticker on the channel preview screen with news headlines. When you go in the channel, you start to see the really cool stuff. If you click on a news article, it displays at a standard size. You can zoom in and out and actually see the words rearrange themselves on the page. Very cool. Also, on the right is a map with the location of the article's subject matter. You can select it and zoom in and out on a map of the world. This map shows different areas with stacks of paper representing the number of articles from those areas. Of course, all this is a lot more interesting when you actually try it. So, for all Wii owners who have not played around with channels, I recommend that you do just to experience it.
-
I need a wii so badly rite now :crybaby2:. Btw nice update admins
-
Well I am anxiously awaiting mine by mail as it has been pre-ordered for about a month now. Looking forward to the goodness that is Brawl...Hopefully there is no online charge to play just Brawl, that is just retarded...
-
I hear you on that one redlum
viv, you could have picked up Legend of Zelda to get the second nunchuk. Same Nintendo gimmick as with the Wii Play to get the second Wii Mote.
Hardware/Software tie in. Strong arm tactics iwmc.
Somehow it doesn't seem wrong when they do it, lol.
Played with the Wii channels, nice but haven't really used that feature much.
Interesting choice with the energizer batteries. Had those before for my camera but they proved fickle. Went with the Nyko rechargeable dock for the Wii.
It's been working great but just today I had one of the wiimotes die unexpectedly due to battery pack failure. Had to pop in a few regular AAs to get it going again.
How are those Virtual Console games working out?
Never bought any of those. Spent my $$ on Zelda, Galaxy, Wii Play and Metroid Prime 3.
-
I'm waiting for a Nintendo approved charger before I get one. With Wiimotes going for $40.00, it's not worth the risk using something else. I didn't know you get a nunchuk with Zelda. Is that Twilight Princess? Maybe I'll do it when I'm getting my next 2 sets of controllers (to complete a set of 4).
-
for virtual console i bought
Ninja Gaiden 2
Street Fighter 2 New Challengers
Streets of Rage 1 2 and 3
Golden Axe
Contra Alien Wars
Super C
I bought a wii classic controller as well. Very satisfied with the controller for playing the SNES and NES games.

pkmn trainer is supposed to be a 10 year old right?
Not necessarily, no information has been released concerning the trainer's age yet, but its a good guess, hmmm at least the VA is probably better than Diamond & Pearl's VA (the anime). I fine they should have de option of using the JPN voices.
-
the update is for the wii to read dual layer discs, cause brawl on a DL disc

Yes, but you see Nintendo has received several reports that some wiis' lens cant seem to read the disc, wtf didn't i JUST say that?

Why would you think that....lol
Besides I think every 360 and PS3 owner can agree that the Wii is in its own class now...
No 360 or PS3 could develop that aort of momentum the Wii is experiencing...at least for now..

Wii owners buy fewer games
Microsoft gets gaming model right, shocker
By Wily Ferret: Tuesday, 22 April 2008, 9:41 AM
NINTENDO HAS MADE much of the Wii's ability to expand gaming beyond a core audience of enthusiasts, but the downsides of that commendable approach are becoming swiftly obvious - non-gamers don't buy games.
New data out from Wedbush Morgan - albeit from notorious jobbing hack Michael Pacther, who we covered previously - shows that Wii owners buy only 3.7 games a year, compared to 4.7 for the Xbox 360 and 4.6 for the PS3.
Indeed, it seems that many Wii owners - both from statistical and anecdotal evidence - play the Wii Sports game that comes in the box and nothing else.
Hardcore gamers buy more games because they spend more time playing games, obviously. The downside of casual gamers is that they are just that - and given that a large chunk of any console manufacturer's revenue comes from games licensing deals rather than the hardware itself, that's going to mean a shrinking stream of dosh for Nintendo from games companies.
The number of games bought per console - known as 'attach rate' in the industry - has disappointed industry insiders, who previously thought Wii was lined up to be the gaming industries saviour. Top Nintendo titles have been mega sellers for one week of chart sales, before swiftly dropping off as the fanbase for excited gamers is exhausted.
If the Wii has predictably the lowest attach rate, then perhaps it is equally obvious that the Xbox 360 has the highest. Of the two 'hardcore gamer' platforms, the 360 is not only the cheapest in terms of hardware - thus leaving gamers with more cash to purchase software titles - individual games are priced up to £10 cheaper than their PS3 equivalent in high street stores, as retailers gouge PS3 owners for every penny of the many they clearly have.

Bout time we see some... *cough* more mature content on the Wii... :ko:
Wii to get pole dancing game
Punters expected to lap it up
By Sylvie Barak: Tuesday, 06 May 2008, 10:45 AM
THE NINTENDO WII is about to increase its physical, educational and entertainment value tenfold by coming out with a new pole dancing game, which it hopes to integrate into its Wii-Fit line.
A company called Peekaboo, which already sells a non virtual version of the Carmen Electra pole dancing kit, aptly called the 'Electra-Pole', is reportedly working with Nintendo to produce a version of the game for the formerly family-friendly console. Nintendo must be letting its standards slide.
A spokesman for Peekaboo and licensing agency AT New Media, Simon Kay, claims that the game is aimed at both women and men and that pole dancing is great for "fun and fitness". He noted that the game would help people improve their pole dancing skills (an essential attribute in today's world, apparently), tone their bodies and burn calories. He also dubiously added that his company wants "to do for pole dancing what Guitar Hero did for rock n roll!" (What? Make it into a lame living-room fantasy for geeks who can’t actually play real guitars? Oh. Cool. Sounds good).
Sadly for pole dancing heroes and nerds, however, Carmen Electra apparently won't be involved in the new game, although Kay admitted that it was "Unlikely… but not impossible," that the buxom ex Baywatch babe could be involved in the game at some point in the future. Of course, if the company would just run a poll, we’re sure they’d see that what a popular option that would be.
AT New Media says that it is also planning on developing a mobile version of the pole dancing game. A mobile version? Probably only on phones with a very substantial antenna!

Hey all Wii owners, the new Nintendo Channel has released this morning and is now available for download via the Wii Shop Channel.
The channel allows you to view videos and general information for past and soon-to-come Wii and Nintendo DS titles, please note that 3rd party-published titles are not yet available for viewing. This channel also allows users to download game demos directly to their Nintendo DS handheld. You can also make recommendations for titles you have played for over an hour, all this information can be viewed when a title is selected, the selected title's percentage of recommended...stuff displays as a pie chart (yummy), but this is available to change.
For more information on the Nintendo Channel, please visit this link:

Though I'm not doubting, I just not seeing how that poll dancing is gonna work for the wii.
Need to see more of the fit in action to properly understand the possibility.
In other news, Mario Kart Wii has graced our console. So far so good. Gonna try online in a bit.

WiiWare was launched yesterday. It is similar to Xbox Live Arcade with new downloadable titles that are paid for with Wii Points. 6 titles are available now with new titles to be released every monday. The one that looks most interesting to me is the Final Fantasy city/country building game. I always enjoy city builders and I am curious to see how they add FF touches to one of those.

Hey I got three articles to dump on everyone here, all these news items are courtesy of www.thewiire.com.
Article #1: "The Wii Is For The Hardcore"
The Nintendo Wii has gotten a lot of both criticism and praise for attracting a new brand of gamer. This casual crowd is quickly becoming the face of the Wii, and has by far gotten the most attention. This leads people to believe that the Wii is geared towards the sixty-five and older crowd. However, while at the Ziff Davis Electronic Gaming Summit, Nintendo of America's own Cammie Dunaway dropped some facts on whom exactly is playing the Wii.
According to Cammie Dunaway, "Seventy-nine percent of Wii gamers are male, most older than 18....and more than half game for five or more hours a week." Assuming 5 hours a week is hardcore, Dunaway made the claim that the Wii is overwhelmingly played by the hardcore. The perception of the Wii's appeal to the baby boomers is not completely incorrect, though. Cammie Dunaway also mentioned that forty-five percent of other household Wii players are females over the age of twenty-five.
Despite the Wii's perception, if Cammie Dunaway's numbers are even the least bit true, the Nintendo Wii may just be a bit more hardcore than you think.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Article #2 ( MUST READ): The Conduit
The Wii has always been somewhat lacking in the first-person shooter realm, but titles like Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 were able to shine that much more because of it. Now it looks like they may have to step out of the limelight. The Conduit, an upcoming entry from experienced Wii developer High Voltage Software, recently got a new trailer, which shows more of the game's subject matter and technology.
The game's sci-fi theme revolves around an alien invasion; certainly nothing new for shooters, but the game takes place in Washington D.C. and seems to have a unique government-work feel to it. Two primary characters mentioned in the trailer include Mr. Ford and Mr. Adams, codenames likely derived from the U.S. presidents' names. The trailer shows a number of different alien types, environments, and weapons, including the usual handguns, machine guns, and sniper rifles as well as some original creations.
The Conduit looks to have a control scheme similar to other Wii shooters, in which you use the pointer function of the Remote to move the aiming reticule around onscreen without moving in place like you would with a mouse. The game looks to offer an alternate aiming scheme like Metroid Prime 3's "expert" setting, which many PC-shooter veterans preferred, but the default aiming looks functional.
As for the game's visuals, High Voltage has claimed that it wants to "make a Wii game that looks like a 360 title," and to that end they've developed their Quantum3 engine. Some of the models look good and the framerate is solid, but the animation looks a bit off, and in some spots the visuals look more like a PS2 or Dreamcast game, lacking the sort of lighting and shader effects to which we've grown accustomed since those days. The engine promises these capabilities, and it is visible in some parts of the trailer, but other parts seem flat by comparison. The game isn't even confirmed for this year, though, so they've got time to polish it.
What's got people most excited is the hint at multiplayer at the very end, when a voice says "Deathmatch is confirmed." Multiplayer is the biggest reason why Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 is so well-liked among the Wii community, and a new game with similar mechanics in a different setting would surely be a welcome change of pace. We'll have more coverage of the game as it progresses.

Article #3: Wii: RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! MWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! (Wii software sells like hot cakes)
Always seeking to impress doubters and skeptics, Cammie Dunaway is at it again; Throwing around numbers as Nintendo's PR department reviews its figures. This time, Dunaway is claiming that the Nintendo Wii has sold around 50 million games during the first year and a half of its release. This is not including any games purchased through the virtual console. When comparing this to previous consoles, take Sony's PS2, the Wii trounces it by a whopping 8 million. The PS2, the closest sales numbers to the Wii, sold 42 million units in the same time span, leaving Cammie Dunaway to say this:
"While we appreciate the impact the Playstation 2 had on sales and the industry, perhaps we are even more impactful."

Wii Remote Gets More Motion
Be sure to stay tuned to E3...'cause Nintendo is apparently going to reveal the MotionPlus accessory at this year's show.
July 14, 2008 - Players wondering if we'd ever see a true 1:1 experience on Wii need to wonder no more, as Nintendo announced today a new plug-in peripheral for the Wii remote, currently called Wii MotionPlus. Details are sparse so far, but Nintendo revealed the first snippets of information in a press release this morning. The following statement is -- in its entirety -- Nintendo's announcement of MotionPlus for Wii:
"Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing."
What we don't know, however, is how exactly MotionPlus will work with nunchuk controls, as the peripheral would need some sort of pass-through in order to give 1:1 motion to titles requiring analog control. The first shot above shows a small plug in the bottom of the attachment, which looks to be covering just such port, but we'll wait on Nintendo to give the final confirmation. Will we see first-person shooters that can make use of this technology? Will LucasArts find a way to adapt the upcoming Clone Wars game to include true 1:1 lightsaber technology, or could Nintendo beat them to it with a pack-in Link's Sword Fighting game (or news of a new Zelda Wii) to showcase MotionPlus? Will some sort of future "Wii-mote 2.0" automatically include MotionPlus, removing the need for an additional add-on peripheral? We'll have to wait and see how exactly the new technology works, and all signs point to Nintendo's keynote just 24 hours from now.
See attachment.

Well Nintendo had their press conference earlier today. Not bad....pretty decent. We weren't really expecting any bombs to drop....so overall Nintendo is steering the path with casual games.
Heres some of the highlights
1. Motion Plus is coming packaged free with Wii Sports Resort. initially the wiimote operates in a 2D plane, x and y. The motion plus allows it to work in a 3D or Z plane. with it attached you can twist a characters arm, body and so forth.
An example was played with a frizbee throwing game, where you can twist your hand for angular throwing and a jetski game (woot, wave race!) that you hold the wiimote like the handles of the jetski, looks fun.
2. Wii Music. You can control up to 50 instruments, from guitars, pianos, violins, drums to the big Japanese drums..lots of stuff. Its not like guitar hero though, in that you cant "messup" You move the wiimote and push the buttons in according to the rhythm and it plays and reads it accordingly. No big skill.....and you can now "air guitar" which is cool.
3. Animal Crossing Wii. A nice feature is FINALLY the addition of Wii Speak....a mic device that sits ontop the Sensor bar on your tv. essentially now you can speak to a living room full of people and vice versa. Animal Crossing can allow you invite people into your game and carry out activities with friends while chatting. NOW i want to see this in Brawl and mario kart.
4. DS titles. GRAND THEFT AUTO Chinatown Wars comming to the DS....i would imagine it may be gta1 topdown view. But nothing was really shown.
5. There was also mention of incorporating Guitar Hero online, where someone on the DS can play with someone on the Wii wireless, despite the platform. Nice idea.
6. Wii snowboarding title coming for the WiiFit system. Looks fun, i dont know how great it will turn out to be.
Party games galore on the Wii. Some MINOR mention of some single player titles, but nothing REALLY to be jumping about. Its all about family play on this console.
-
Decent? Disappointing in ->my<- opinion.
Very cool to see the Wii Speak device and the MotionPlus, and that Wii Sports resort looks good.
But..gah, I think nearly the(us) HardCores wanted more from Nintendo, now that rumored Kid Icarus fart is null and void. Hopefully if they don't overload the feed with re-runs we might see some new Conduit footage or something worth wooting about. (Which reminds me..me likey how CoD 5 Wii lookin)
Hope Nintendo gets a move on, "forgetting about those that got them where they are today, will take them 1 step forward and 2 steps back."
Even you Shiv said when the conference was over, "Daz all?"

And so the war was won...
Wii captures first place in console war
PS3 and Xbox fighting over crumbs
By Aharon Etengoff: Tuesday, 22 July 2008, 9:38 AM
Click here to find out more!
THE NINTENDO WII is currently the top-selling video game console in the US, while the DS has been rated the best selling hand-held US video game system for the month of July.
But Peter Moore, who headed Microsoft's Xbox division until joining Electronic Arts a year ago, has even higher expectations for the family-oriented console.
Moore told the Financial Times that Nintendo’s Wii will take up half of all home console sales in this generation, leaving the PS3 and Xbox 360 to fight over the remaining crumbs.
"It looks to me as if the Wii is going to have at least half the installed base of the overall industry and the Xbox 360 and PS3 are going to fight over the balance, based on the run-rates we're seeing," he said.
The latest statistics seem to confirm Moore's statement that Sony and Microsoft are locked into battle for second place. While the Wii maintains a comfortable lead, the PS3 outsold the 360 by nearly two-to-one in June.
Michael Pachter, a video games analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, predicted that PS3 sales would accelerate even further if Sony slashed its prices.
"It's highly likely that when the PS3 gets below $200, it will sell as well as the PS2."
However, Kaz Hirai, President and Group CEO at Sony told the FT that he wanted to exceed PS2 sales.
"It's not fun for me replicating the PS2 numbers. I've seen that movie already. I want to try to see if we can exceed the PS2 numbers after nine years, otherwise why are we in this business?"

pfffffft
he of all people should know that the business model for the entertainment industry is WAY to volatile to be predetermined at this state.

http://www.consoleme.ca/wii-success-marks-the-downfall-of-the-hardcore-gamer
do u feel the same way? i do jus look at PoP/NXE/Home i remember wen PoP used to b hard an challenging now u cant even die....................
-
alot of people mistake the PoP "i cant die" scenario. I dont blame them though, looking at it at face value. UBisoft should and could have found another way to implement this system into the game (but saying it is hella easy compared to doing it)
Already played, finished and traded in this game btw.
You actually suffer all the setbacks of "dying" when you do in this PoP. You restart from the last checkpoint, you have to do over that sequence where you 'died' again. If its in a battle and you "die" where Elika saves you the fight resets and the enemy regains health. The "saving" feature is a death, it just saves you the YOU DIED--->LOADING SCREEN---->RESET LEVEL scenario again and just keeps the pace of the game. This is why its done in about 10-12 hours.
To be honest though for some parts you literally have to "test" jump certain areas to make sure you can reach certain areas. PoP has probably the BEST voice acting ive seen in a game last year, its got great visuals, very good character development and off the WALL fantastic music with a very nice story. Too bad though, when its done, its done. No replay value.
But Blu_Vice is right. We are looking at a change in the game industry. This change happens every 10 years.....every decade there is an influx of new gamers, out with "old" ones. This may be the next change, or it may just be another phase.
You are noticing that the 3 million plus Nintendo Wii's that were sold this christmas alone makes Wii Sports the biggest selling console game EVER, just because of it being bundled. What is happening (if you dont already know) is that people hear about the Wii (namely new gamers) they buy it, play it for the holidays and then it just sits there....and thats it.
for 250 US i guess they get their utility for the once in a while party/limes by their house.
As for myself i LMAO at forums with people complaining about "OMG ninja gaiden is so HARD OMG" and "i beat that game in a day its too short". But this mentality has CHANGED since my old school days of gaming, its changing again. I dont mind though, its my job to LEARN to accept these changes.
1. You wanna see hard try Ninja gaiden 3 or pretty much quite a number of those NES games back in the day, I know MOST of you can agree with this.
2. The games that are usually well received if you notice are not targeted at the E (ESRB Rating) community. They are targeted at older audiences. The average age of the gamer (worldwide today) is in the mid twenty's to almost THIRTY FIVE....this is the M (and sometimes T) market.
http://www.digitalbattle.com/2008/07/17/40-of-gamers-women-average-gamer-age-is-35/
http://www.theaveragegamer.com/averagegamers/
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=9342
These people are working (LONG LONG hours a week) and a 12 hour game will last them about 2-3 weeks depending on their work schedule. These are the people that have the "disposable" income to buy games every week or month. This is the target, and this target is becoming more apparent with the economic change.
the target is NOT the teenager so much anymore (weather or not they get their hands on an M rated game). So just going to school and having the ENTIRE weekend or even summer holidays to play a game that is 12 hours....is still not the industry's target. The teenage gamer cannot buy these games every month like the adult can (generally speaking).
Sign of the times? http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21833
What is the BOTTOM line in that article? The bottom line is you coulda, woulda, shoulda....but Capcom is on a f*cking ROLL, and you...are not. All the support, all the fans, all the great games for the targeted gamers (i love the GG series myself) ....its not going to change what is happening...because....ITS HAPPENING!!
Guilty Gear is almost on its way out. The "hardcore" fighters although cater to this community, is not NEARLY big enough to support the title on today's platformers....to break EVEN on a title today you MUST cross 500,000 units. To make a PROFIT you must cross 1 million. People that check NPD and gamechartz.com sales can see. Alot of games are NOT hitting this mark.
I have seen articles like what Blu_Vice says all the time. And i have to agree with it. The market is changing...but there is NOTHING those sites, or people on forums can EVER do about it.....NOTHING. The game demographic WILL change again, like it always has.
There was a time you could NEVER put hardcore next to a word like consoles. That's changed, weather PC gamers like it or not. PC gamers @ss is in a SLING this year because of piracy. You are going to see quite a bit of inde games out this year, for the PC as well, and DAMN good ones too. When a title comes to PC now from a console its "down the line" not because of porting and coding....but because the game didnt SELL as well as they wanted to on the console and they are increasing sales by making a PC port......WITH bugs mind you (talked about that in the PC thread).
The business wheel turns again people. This is how it works, it sucks...but this is how it works.
-
@ The Conduit Trailer: Gameplay looks pretty neat. Graphics look decent too.
You know something, I saw a Ps3 game in 480i and it does not look too far from this. It makes me think that if the Wii could have at least supported 720p, games could have looked a bit closer to PS3,XBOX360. Of course not Gears, Uncharted like, but closer to what 'hardcore' gamers prefer.
Imagine how Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario would have looked! (Some of the best games I have played this gen). Oh well, WiiHD ftw.
-
^
Wii games that interest me
Metroid
Zelda
Smash
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
The Conduit
No More Heroes
No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle
MadWorld
Okami (never finished PS2 one an well meh PS2 mash up)
there should be more games like these on the Wii instead of the kiddy games, then again cyah really blame Nintendo for that they made a beautiful machine developers jus not using it right instead they take d easy way out an pump out a crap load of these "casual" games

I find Wii Sports shouldn't have been considered to be a best seller. It's not even a stand alone product. Had it been, I'm sure it wouldn't have done so well, because that game will get seriously boring after a while. SMB, on the other hand, never gets old.

Amm Kristan....if you don't finish Okami I never talking to you again eh! lol. Boy that is one of my ALL-TIME favourite games.

NEO, didn't the game it previously beat for best selling game ever also not a "stand-alone" title? Wasn't the original SMB game bundled with the NES?

On that topic, I need to get my PSP hacked/modified soon. For some reason I have not picked it up since Syphon Filter (AWESOME on psp). I wonder if we will ever get a Syphon Filter on PS3?

Nintendo continues it nigh-unbelievable run:
Wii production costs 45 per cent lower
Nibble Less water
By Nick Farrell
Wednesday, 8 April 2009, 10:56
PRODUCTION COSTS on the Nintendo Wii are now 45 per cent lower than they were when the console shipped in November 2006.
Koya Tabata an analyst at Credit Suisse noted the drop in Wii production costs as an indication of how much of an uphill battle the PS3 has to establish itself.
While the PS3 is enjoying a run of hardware success, Tabata pointed out that Nintendo can counter this any time it likes by dropping the price of the console while still making shedloads of cash.
He said that the Wii costs no more than $137.50 to make, even though the system sells at $250 in Japan.

punch out should be fun. It should have been a launch title for the wii. Boxing in Wii sport is alright, nice proof of concept but decidely underwhelming for any serious play.
-
Nothing is wrong with the current Wii Punch Out. I play it with the "NES" style controler ie holding the wimote sideways. Ive played and finished the previous 2 punchouts. this one feels like Super Punch Out for SNES with the NES *Mike Tyson* fighting and star system.
Enjoyable game, interesting to see how people who have never played punchout before would take this though. Definitely a game for the veterans
BTW. Metroid Prime Triligoy is out...1 and 2 for GCN and 3 for Wii available for the price of ONE wii game all with the new Wii control setup, VERY MUCH WORTH IT people. Cursed Mountain is also available...very interested in this game, not too many survival horrors on the Wii, this one is pretty decent.

Metroid Prime is one of my all time favourites. The Trilogy is a must buy.

Facing a double-digit slowdown in sales of its Wii game console, Nintendo announced it will slash the price of the console 20% to $199 on Sunday.
The Japanese company has sold more than 50 million Wiis since launching the device in November 2006, making it the bestselling of the current generation of video game consoles. Indeed, many stores ran out of the console during holiday shopping seasons. But this year, the console is in plentiful supply and U.S. sales are down 21%, according to data from NPD Group.
"The last five months, April through August, tell the story," said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities. "Sales are down exactly 50%."
Nintendo also announced it would release New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the company's blockbuster bet, on Nov. 15. To fuel sales, Nintendo plans to reach out to millions of new consumers by holding sampling events where shoppers can try out games on the console.
"Combined with the value pricing, a new blockbuster release right before Thanksgiving and the opportunity for consumers to see for themselves, we will drive holiday sales to new heights," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo's U.S. business.
The price drop is projected to give Nintendo a 40% life in sales in October, said Jesse Divnich, analyst with Electronic Entertainment Design and Research.
Sony in August slashed $100 off the price of its PlayStation 3 console to as low as $299. Microsoft countered by offering a temporary $50 rebate off its $299 Xbox 360 Elite console, bringing the price tag down to $249.
Let the price war begin.

Im thinking about getting a wii. As we know games are expensive. I would like to know how much does online play add to owning a wii because I am leaning toward a modded one and im not sure about the implications of trying to play a modded wii online.
-
So guys Skyward Sword is comin on November 20th and it seems that from two reviews so far it has 98% on ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine) which called it the best zelda ever made and Edge Magazine who hardly gives game perfect scores gave it a 10/10!!!!!!!!!. So look it up guys and what do u think?
-
sweet. Glad I still have my Wii.
Its been gathering dust for some time. Finally a reason to whip it out.
-
I just hope i don't HAVE to install an update to play this. Cus i want to buy the limited edition (with the gold wii-mote), but i don't want to take off my mods :(
-
mods you say doomtack? 0_0.. What kinda mods? I've actually never looked into that. I jus swing my hands and mash buttons =D
-
Critics saying it might be the greatest game of all Time. Cuz as u all knw ocarina of time is still #1 as greatest game of all time.
-
Doom means his Wii is chipped/modded. Though i think the update will be on the disk itself if any, and i'll feel sorry for him if he has to borrow someone's Wii or lime by a friend to play this masterpiece. :awesome:
-
Lol i knew what he meant. Was giving him a chance to make up something to cover the tracks lol. But yes, looks like i have to convince my cousin to buy the game before he sells the Wii so i can play it =D.. I also have to finish twilight princess as well.....
-
yes... modded wii :P
Only because there are only so many games a man can buy :(
But games like zelda, smash bros. metroid etc, i buy.
And trust me, i will be un modding my Wii if i have to in order to play zelda... i'm a zelda fanatic :P
