Trading Grounds / WTB Am2+/AM3 MB
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:30:58 AM »
am guessing motherboard is no good on my computer.  Not starting up, changed power supplies...same thing.  Only symptom I had was that the mouse light didn't turn off one night, so I used the switch on power supply to turn it off.  Checked it in the morning and computer wouldn't even start.  Swapped around Ram (removed sticks, moved them, etc),removed all components and reinstalled them, and still nothing...no beeps or anything.  SO....gotta get a new MB and see if that's the problem.

I WTB an AM2+/AM3 mother board capable of handling pcie, a 3.2ghz black processor, and at least 4gb of ddr2 1066ghz ram.

Trading Grounds / WTB/WTTf Power Supply
« on: August 16, 2009, 12:00:06 AM »
Just got back from the states with the starts of my new computer..it was supposed to be a full package, but I screwed up with the power supply....

I wound up with a 450w that just won't run what I built...and the 550 I have at home is closer, but still short a pin....

What I need is a minimum of 550w with 2 6 pin PCI-E's...a 24 pin mb connector....2 - 4 pin mb connectors....2 sata-2's....and 6 standard 4 pins....

what I am trying to put the final touches on is this...

AMD Phenom II x 2 Calisto Processor (hope it unlocks to x4)
Gigabyte MA790x-UD4P Board
NVIDIA 260GTX PCI-E
1tb Sata2 Drive
1 Blue Ray Burner

Unfortunately, looking like I may get fired on Monday....soooooooo...can't spend a lot of cash on it, but can spend some....also will be scrapping down my former system which has a Athlon Athlon 1600+ 1.4ghz processor with 1gb of DDR1, SB Live Value (PCI), Network Card (PCI), and a NVIDIA GEFORCE 5200fx).  I'm willing to trade off those old parts in my efforts to obtain a working power supply for the new system.....or some can do some type of purchase....just let me know if interested....

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / no mo torrents on Lisa....
« on: August 15, 2007, 03:47:13 PM »
I had been downloading and seeding torrents for just fine and dandy until about a week ago. After some digging, I have discovered that my ISP has supposedly always blocked torrents....and now evidently are doing so effectively.

I use Azureus and tell it to use protocol encryption and randomized ports each time I start the program. I am assuming that this is the reason I have managed to float beneath the radar for as long as I have. Well, they have evidently outsmarted me in some way...though I'm SURE somebody knows a way around it (HELP PLEASE!)

What is happening at this point is two things...first...

When I click on the "download torrent" tab, nothing happens....it just times out....

Secondly, torrents which were already started don't do anything either...they just sit there.

I would assume from the first item that they have found a way to prevent all files with a .tor extension from downloading...but that's layman conjecture on my part....

Any ideas? (besides the one saying "heh, you're screwed man, switch to flow."

Ole Talk / Fantasy Football (American Football that is)
« on: June 22, 2007, 01:26:21 PM »
hey folks.  dunno if any of you follow american football like I do, but just in case you are interested, I've been doing fantasy football leagues for about 10 years now, and am running another on yahoo this year.  if you'd like to play with my gaggle of friends and me, post your interest here and I'll shoot you an invite to the league.  We are shooting for about 20 players this year with 2 divisions.  There's no money involved in it, it's purely for the heck of it, and for bragging rights.  If you need to learn more about fantasy football, there's tons of stuff up on the web about it, including at the yahoo.com site where the league will be running.

PC Gaming / EA to use in game advertising.....ugh
« on: August 31, 2006, 08:38:23 PM »
Just announced, EA has put together deals with Massive and IGA to include "relevant" in game "fresh advertising."

I remembered thinking that things were going downhill when I saw my first coke commercial on an original dvd....

It seems to be fairly unobtrusive....but you know how those things go in the end...

Not that anybody that reads the boards anymore cares.....BUT....

I had a fairly extensive exchange of emails with DCI/WoTC's Andy Heckt.  He is the fellow in charge of worldwide judging certification.  I am attempting to begin the process necessary to host DCI Sanctioned events in Trinidad, with an end objective of eventually hosting a PreRelease Tournament.  As some of you know, we would need the attendance of a level 3 judge.  He provided me with some names of folks with whom I can liase in an effort to meet this objective.  There is a fellow in Puerto Rico who will very shortly be named a level 3 judge.  I am trying to get on his short list of future candidates for the same.  I am hopeful that over the next year to two, we may reach that end objective.  I will be visiting the Spellbound shop sometime very shortly after payday and take a look at what the current scent is like.

I know that some of you still have cards...and even a few of you still play.  If you are interested in playing in minor sanctioned events and helping Trinidad get on the map for major tournaments, send me a message.

Thanks!

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Shortage on New Intel Chips (AGAIN)
« on: August 22, 2006, 10:11:31 AM »
According to an article on PC World, there has been a spike in for Intel's new chip sets.  I'm sure you all know that shortage issues were blamed for causing the company to lose market share to rival AMD last year.

When they decreased prices for desktop chips in July, the demand led component makers hustle to keep up.  Sunny Han, director of Marketing for Asustek, said "This year, the problem is with the 965 chip set," said Han, referring to the shortage. He added that he knows of no production glitches, but instead believes that sharp increase in demand caught companies by surprise.

Benchmarks / Tom's Charts are Updated....
« on: August 21, 2006, 04:22:44 PM »
Even though they updated it 4 months ago, due to some big changes in current processors, Tom's has updated their CPU charts.  According to their benchies, AMD's no longer the dominant power, having been replaced by  Intel's Core 2 Duo. According to their charts, the Core 2 Duo processors are faster than Athlon 64 X2's and they consume less power.

Charts and full story are here:

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / ATI's X1950 Pricing
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:17:56 AM »
Just rolled across this on the net...it looks quite a bit cheaper than first anounced.

WE LEARNED that the upcoming X1950 PRO based on RV570 chip is going to be cheaper than expected. This card is expected in October and will end up with a juicy price of $199. Nvidia will price its Geforce 7900GS at the same price but Nvidia wants to fight RV560 with this card.

RV570 is a 256 bit memory interface card with 256 or 512MB memory working at 1100 MHz and engine that is suppose to run at a 600MHz or 650MHz core.

Nvidia will have the hard task to fight this one but as it didn’t announced anything it will always be able to make some slight changes in its roadmaps to fight this one
