General Gaming & System Wars / FIFA 12

Well it's almost time for the new installation of FIFA, while I'm excited for gameplay improvements, updated team rosters and new boots  :ko:, nothing is exciting me more than FIFA 12 for the PC. No more old console ports or reiterations of previous year console game engines. They're actually making it the same across all platforms, and also including Ultimate Team for the PC as well. So EA has two major titles coming up in Q4 of this year, BF3 and FIFA 12 PC.. I'm so excited I have to restrain myself from jumping up and down from all this epic win!

FIFA 12 PC HANDS ON REVIEW

Quote

My newly found confidence was further bolstered when I went over to play the console versions. Sure, gameplay was identical, but both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions looked vastly inferior in comparison. The main reason why the the game looked so good on the PC was because it supported very high resolutions, as opposed to being upscaled like it is on the consoles. Performance wise too, the difference was night and day. We were told by Ian Jarvis (FIFA 12, PC Producer) that the game will run at 60 fps during gameplay and 30 fps when shifting to cutscenes. “It was obviously being ran on a monster PC”, I hear you shout. Not the case at all. The FIFA 12 minimum and recommended specifications are near enough the same as FIFA 11, and can be easily handled by an affordable gaming PC.

After my experience in Guildford, I am definitely getting the PC version of FIFA 12, there’s no two ways about it. If you have a decent gaming PC, you’d be silly not to follow suit. It really is that much better than the console versions.

GAME DEMO WILL BE AVAILABLE ON SEPTEMBER 13TH 2011 FOR ALL PLATFORMS

Ole Talk / Fay-Ann's Tattoo on Express Newspaper Front Page
« on: February 11, 2011, 08:44:04 PM »
What y'all think about this? honestly.....

In my opinion i don't like the fact that something as insignificant as a tattoo on a celebrity made the front page of a NEWSpaper, really dumbing down local news . Was the Express low on worthy stories that day? or was it that the editor felt that it would have been "the real scene" to put something like that on d front page big and bold..

Y'all may have a different opinion, but i want to know what you all think.

NEW CONTROLLERS FROM LOGITECH, I LIKE

Quote
Logitech has unveiled several new gamepads for PC gamers that look a lot like controllers that PS3 players will be used to. The F310 has a floating D-pad and ships with profiler software for programming the buttons. The F510 is the same as the F310 with the addition of rumble feedback. The really cool controller is the F710.

Peripherals / Repair Broken Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
« on: September 06, 2009, 01:52:07 PM »
*not sure where to put this so move to appropriate section if necessary*

Wednesday last week, after reaching home from a boring day of work i decided to plug in my Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows and take up a rounds of FIFA. Upon plugging it in, i realized the light wasn't coming on and no sound from the pc to notify that my device is connected. I tried it on my laptop, same thing, i tried different usb ports, same thing there. Thinking is was a break in the wire, i played with the cord hoping to hear a sound from windows or see the light come on.... SALT!! Defeat settled in and to amazon i went adding one to cart...

Finally today, persistence stepped in and google-fu laid down the spin kick on Microsoft a$$. Found that the problem was internal, a fuse blowing rendering the device useless. Instructions in this blog Broken XBox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows, showed me exactly what to do, but i had no soldering iron, so i followed instruction from commenter that used foil paper and electrical tape. The bloody thing worked like a charm, and my device works as new. I'm not sure how long this will last but it saved me 40USD. I'm just posting this info for anyone that has, had or probably will have this problem with their device. Long live Google, Long live the Innanets.

CASES / Thermaltake Element G
« on: July 08, 2009, 05:26:31 PM »
For those that remember the Thermaltake Element S, Tt has a newly christened re-design called the Element G, seems like a pretty cool case, but the one thing is, it's kinda expensive compared to others in its class. At least there's the model that comes with a side panel fan in our region as the Element S didn't. Pretty much the same internals as its sibling which i love, and the colour changing fans is definitely a good touch. check it out, it may tickle your fancy....

CASES / Help Phil Choose Case
« on: March 22, 2009, 06:47:47 PM »
Currently i'm looking at upgrading my pc case, i'm in dire need of some proper ventilation, and my only option with my current case is to use it with the side panel off [TAKE A LOOK SEE]. I don't need a full tower case, and i don't think i have room in my pc area for a full tower case anyways, a mid tower would suffice.

I have two cases in mind,

The Antec 902: Amazon $142.85 USD    -------Driver Heaven Review

and..

The Thermaltake Element S: Amazon $119.99 USD  -------- Driver Heaven Review

I'm impressed with both, i like the antec because of its design and cooling features, but i love the thermaltake because of the build quality. Sucks that the thermaltake doesn't have a side window, but who cares right now, i want ventilation!!!! Would like to know if anyone here has any of these cases, and their experiences, also if y'all have any other recommendations. Thanks in advance  :)

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Help Phil Choose New Monitor
« on: December 25, 2008, 11:16:24 AM »
Well it's been 7 years while i've been using my own pc (yes i know, i'm young). But i think it's time i give my eyes some LCD loving. I've been using a CRT monitor for the whole time, from a 15inch AOC then to a 17inch AOC(which i use till this day). So.. since my rig is slowly stepping into the realms of uberness, i say it's time to get a bigger monitor.

Have only two choices in mind, only because of local availability, both AOC btw..

CHOICE ONE:

AOC 20" 2016Vwa [AVAILABLE AT PRW 1700TT]

PRODUCT DETAILS
> Resolution 1680x1050
> Brightness: 300 cd/m2
> Contrast Ratio: 3000:1
> Response Time: 5ms
> Analog Dsub & Digital DVI-D with HDCP Inputs
> HD 720p/1080i Compatible
> Built-in Stereo Speakers
> Wall Mountable
> PC & MAC Compatible
> Certified for Windows Vista

CHOICE TWO:

AOC 22" 2219S1 [AVAILABLE AT PRW 1850TT]

PRODUCT DETAILS
> Resolution: 1680x1050
> Brightness: 300 cd/m2
> Contrast Ratio: 3,000:1
> Response Time: 5ms
> Analog Dsub Input
> Slim Cabinet
> Glossy Black Cabinet
> Wall Mountable

I was leaning towards the 20inch because to me it boasts a bit better specs, with the HD, and it comes with the option to use DVI, but the 22inch looks so sexy, lol, but only uses analog d-sub... but i'm a LCD noob, so idk.

I'm open to any suggestions, whether it may be a choice of which one i'll be better off with OR also if there is any better/cheaper solution for me online that won't amount to the cost of these two monitors at final cost(shipping included). I also would like to have a monitor that has multiple connections, i.e DVI, ANALOG D-SUB or even HDMI AND S-VIDEO etc..because i may want to use it with a console in the future. If anyone can recommend one for me that won't cost more than the two i posted above, i'll be truly grateful. Thanks.  :happy0203:

Processors / GOODBYE Q6600.. R.I.P
« on: November 28, 2008, 05:51:02 AM »
Quote
As they say, all good things must come to an end and in this case it's Intel's much beloved Q6600 processor which brought fun and frills to many enthusiasts and overclockers for nearly two years running.

Come the first quarter of next year, the beginnings of a phase-out will take place as Intel shifts it toward an end-of-lifecycle during the second quarter where we'll see the wonder chip dissapear off the market for good.

In the meantime, expect to see the CPU drop in price to help vendors clear their inventory towards the end of the year.

Cooling Solutions / Phil's Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer
« on: November 05, 2008, 11:46:20 PM »
As the thread title says, i now own a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer HSF.

PICTURE

**********************************************************************************************************************************
Why would i buy a brand new CPU cooler? --- Well i previouly owned an Arctic Freezer Pro 64 and it cooled both my 4400+ x2 chip and also my 6000+ x2 chip quite ok. Then the freak accident happened. Opening my case to let in more air, the side panel slipped on the tiled floor, knocking off the fan cage of the Arctic Freezer; THE PC WAS ON!!!. Seemingly nothing happened to it, so i just slipped it back on and decided to close the system up. Upon screwing on the side panel, i realised the fan was wobbling. I quickly turned off the system, took out the Arctic Freezer, and when i touched the fan, it came off with ease  :crybaby2:.

PICTURE

**********************************************************************************************************************************

After that disaster, i decided it's time for a new cooler. Remembering Captain Awesome's thread in the benchmark section he mentioned his new cooler, the sunbeam core contact, so i checked it out. The reviews were great but the main reason i got this was because of its price, 45USD, that's a wicked deal for something ranked #1 and #2 on FrostyTech.com

Now this cooler is large, freakishly HUGE!! I measured my clearance around the cpu to ensure that i would at least fit the thing. When it arrived it was in awe at the true size, a picture cannot truly tell the massiveness of this b1tch.

To try and tell the size of this thing i took comparission pics, take a look....

Installing this thing was a pain in the rear, thank GOD for flat head screw drivers. Scary thing was that when installing it, i felt as if i would have broke it, but i wasn't in the mood to take out the mobo to just install this thing, when there's a will there's a way.

PICTURES OF COOLER INSTALLED:

Now for the last thing; how does it perform, and does it improve over the Arctic Freezer Pro 64? The answer is simply YES

Arctic Freezer Pro Temps
:

Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer Temps

IN THE END OF IT ALL, THIS IS THE BEST COOLER YOU CAN GET FOR YOUR MONEY, NO CONTEST. THE TEMPS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Considering the chip i own is a Winsdor 125w 6000+ x2 @ 3.0ghz, the prescott of amd..lol, these temps are quite good for air cooling and where my pc stays. I would reccommend this cooler to anyone looking for the bang for buck solution. There's always the TRUE, but this baby right now holds the crown. Captain Awesome, if i ever see you in life, remind me to buy you a beer.

This cooler is the shizznit.

.......wow i just typed all that shizz...  :ko:
