Trading Grounds / WTB Cheap phone or microSIM to miniSIM clip
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:45:18 AM »
Hey guys,

I need to send my phone for repair as the camera's autofocus is not working. Does anyone have an old phone using microSIM they are willing to let go cheap/trade?

Or does anyone know where i can get the miniSIM clip for my microSIM? I already have an old, partially working phone but it uses the miniSIM.

Laptops / Looking For Laptop
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:03:42 PM »
Does anyone know where i can get a decent laptop in Trinidad?

What's necessary in it is a backlit keyboard and a warranty, 3 years or so. It doesn't need to be too high specs as it will be used mostly for productivity and i guess some movies.

Any more info i should provide let me know.

SoundCards and Speakers / AMP/DAC Question
« on: April 18, 2013, 05:57:20 PM »
Yo guys,

I'm considering purchasing an amp for my headphones and i would like a bit of advice. Firstly let me give you the background.

My MAIN listening device is a pair of Sennheiser HD 515's that are about 2 years old but I'm not ready to part with them. When i first got them the sound quality was amazing and still is. I then purchased, second hand, a SB Audigy (Old I know) to place in my machine and greatly increased the quality of sound coming out my machine, i was truly impressed.

I'm looking to continue my incredible, though admittedly hampered, delving into the "audiophile" world. I say that in quotes as i know i'm nowhere near heh.

Can you tell me of any AMP/DAC or combination of both that i could use to increase my sound experience? For a quick reference, the HD515 is my MAIN (read: only) listening device coming out of a SoundBlaster Audigy and i never remove it from there. I mainly listen to music, play HD games and chat on Skype on there.

Looking for something a bit "futureproof" so i only have to upgrade the headphones/soundcard in future.

Mobile Phones & Gadgets / Phone Protection
« on: September 02, 2012, 09:03:12 PM »
I'm looking for a screen protector for my new phone and as usual online has too many mixed reviews from foreigners.

I'm looking for some local input on the protectors used in the Caribbean.

Do or Do not? What type to look for? Top recommended brands that sort of thing, even if you are relating it to your personal phone.

Trading Grounds / URGENT: Computer Build
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:40:23 AM »
Urgent request here people:

I need a full computer built for, preferably, Wednesday afternoon or Thursday afternoon at the latest. Nothing high end and preferably with at least 6 months warranty on the system.

If it can't be built in time, i am willing to take the parts and build it myself, but it must be a full buil, i.e.:
Motherboard w/ onboard video preferably or a low end card, Processor, RAM,Hard Disk w/ OS + Office ( I have a W7 32 bit key so it need not be original), DVD Drive, Case.

If i can get with a 20"+ LCD monitor, would be a plus, mouse and keyboard.

EDIT: Forgot the budget- $4000-$5000

Peripherals / Second Monitor?
« on: March 07, 2012, 04:34:47 PM »
Quick opinion guys:

I'm thinking about getting this: ASUS Monitor as a second monitor. This will achieve two things.

1) I get a second monitor
2) I'll be supporting a local business and a GATT partner

Any thoughts about better monitors for similar pricing, or better pricing on another local competitor is welcome.

Ole Talk / Want to get a tv tuner box and maybe a new monitor
« on: December 19, 2011, 09:07:33 AM »
My simple upgrade plans for 2012. I want to get rid of my legendary 18 year old CRT television and perhaps use a monitor instead.

While some may ask: "Why replace a television that shows colours that are not actually visible to the natural spectrum?". The simple answer is space.

So i've come to the gurus of tech on the local scene. I'm thinking of getting a TV Tuner box and maybe (if the price is right) getting a bigger monitor or even a second as the dedicated tv, i'm currently rocking an AOC 22inch.

I'm completely new at this and a bit overwhelmed by what actually works out there. I'ld like to hook my Wii up too if possible, not sure if there are any that supports that. Don't necessarily need it to be HD, though that's not a reason to turn it down.

Anyone went down this path and has some advice?

Peripherals / WTK Keyboard
« on: December 02, 2011, 09:32:39 AM »
Hey people, i'm in the market for a ergonomic/ gaming keyboard. I'm looking at USB preferably as i already have a wireless keyboard. Two things i want to know mostly.

1) Suggestions on a fairly priced gaming/ergonomic keyboard, it doesn't need to have an LCD or a backlight. (i am mostly in an enclosed room so the light doesn't bother anyone)

2) Suggestions on where i can get/check locally for the above mentioned.

If you have suggestions/prices i'm more than willing to listen, thanks in advance!

Software, Security, Programming and Internet / Converting to Raid
« on: October 03, 2011, 12:41:21 PM »
Hey guys, nice tough question for you guys to flex your IT muscles on. I've just bought a new HDD and i wanted to achieve two things with it:
1) Install Windows 7-64bit
2)Convert my current Windows XP and the future Windows 7 install to a Raid-1 format.

I've done a bit of research and found out that at least the converting to Raid-1 format for XP can be done, even though it's a bit of a run around. Only going through this trouble cos i don't want to format the drive and have to re-dl and install everything again.

Installing Windows 7-64 and dual-booting is the easy part, i already know how to do that but the converting to Raid-1 is where the problem is at.

Lastly, not sure if all that can be done on a Logically partitioned drive, removing the partition is not really a problem, was using the second part for storage and game installs.

Let me know what you guys think/experiences, thanks.

Graphics Cards / Gfx Card Comparison Charts
« on: August 21, 2011, 11:18:14 AM »
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2011-gaming-graphics-charts/benchmarks,123.html

Not sure if this has been up yet.
Found this collection of charts that shows a bit more than the raw FPS performance on cards, it has less publicized info such as power draws(idle and load) and heat generation (idle and load) and puts it all together in a selection comparison table.

Those were the factors i was more interested in since after advice and research i wouldn't get up to max settings anyway.

Very good for the non-enthusiast who just want to upgrade without the research hassle.

« on: January 13, 2011, 12:11:22 AM »
Looking for a headphones or headset to use as my main means of audio.

Willing to spend $200-$300 maybe a little more.

Doesn't need to be wireless and i have a soundcard so it can be USB or 3.5mm.

Checked Amazon and Newegg, but too many conflicting reviews and i dont want the first expensive headset i buy to be a lesson learned.

Thanks in advance for any offers or help.
