Alpha 3... great to see that the game still has so many followers... after seeing 30 signups for the game at VxG, and it being my first competitive fighting game, i got a sense of nostalgia playing that.... anyway I gotta say RB has a point with the DE. For Vxg, it worked out really well. Matter of fact, we used round robins to decide who reached to the DE stage, which added more "longevity" to the tournament, but i guess only makes sense if you have at least 24 players in a game. But DE is A MUST for ANY fighting game. Samuel of Gigagames in Guadeloupe only used SE because 1) fighting games are not that popular there, 2) They have limited resources (time, system, referees) to run the competition and 3) they do not really understand the system. RB is a great fighting game guru, go with his advice... as i said before, the man gave me some very good pointers for VxG. Good luck with the tournament and lemme know who wins

Hehe, hey guys, sorry that i coulnd;t come on ealier and give updates, but next to gatt their are 100 million other boards i had to update but here i am finally... Firstly, i have to thank the gaming community here at GATT for spreading the word about VxG, which helped us attract 12 gamers from trinidad! Many more wanted to come, but with more time to plan i am sure next year we can get at least 30 from trinidad. The trinidadadians here were a REAL fun bunch... outside of the gaming we had lots of other fun, like going to the clubs and dinner and stuff... and NUF jokes after the event... wooy... GB_executioner is one funny mofo... Xen and his team was not able to make it for this year's comp, but will be there next year for sure. They would have faced extremely tough competition for the game though, with teams from the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Canada, St. Maarten and French St. Martin vying for that (i wouldn;t worry bout the last one, french st. maarten, cause thy got 50 ZERO ON THEIR ASSES! THATS RIGHT, Canada pwned them with a superb tactic and hit them 50-0 in halo!). As amazing as canada was, NH from Puerto Rico was even better... that team man... they rival Halogod... they played the best Halo i have ever seen in my life... RB was a real good sport for the competition. It was great having him around... he even helped us Referee some parts of some games! He knows his shit about gaming!!! Unfortunately, he didn't reach to the finals of 3rd strike, but got a respectable 4th, very tough position to get given that the Puerto Ricans vowed at all costs to win ALL 2d games, which they did. What was really nice, is that he donated his 3rd Strike bible to Gary Sham of Jamaica, who is very eager to advance in 3rd strike after losing at the hands of RB . Looking forward to having you again next year RB! Keep up the gaming and win 3rd strike for Trinidad next year! The puerto ricans, as i said, vowed to take all 2d fighting games before they came. They almost took ALL fighting games, but out boy Jin11 easily manhandled everyone at VxG's tekken 5 competition. But back to puerto rico...They brought this guy, called Nestor Corchado a.k.a SAGE. Before the competition, he just said "I'd be coming along to VxG btw..." i was like OK COOL...little did i know that the guy was TOP TEN IN THE USA! So... he went home with a full luggage of prizes, including 2 PSP's, a DS Lite, an Xbox 360, a cellular phone. The good news? next year he will not be attending VxG since he will be attending Evo next year... the bad news... everyone has already started training to kick his ass next year (including me, since i will be making a comeback to the VxG competition thanks to a change in our policy, which allows me to enter, but if i win i must relegate my prize to the player underme (so if i get 2nd, my prize goes to 3rd). Puerto Ricans are very strong 2d fighters, and i think this was a learning experience for many of the other Caribbean and international player present. St. Maarten has already taken suit... the other day i walked into a local gaming center which ussually has ONLY HALO playing... to my utter suprise i saw STREET FIGHTER games on EVERY SCREEN... NO HALO. St. Maarten and the Netherlands both want to reclaim their 2d Fighting trophies that they shared for the last 4 years till now... gonna be interesting to see what happens next year in the 2d fighting scene, especially since i will be back to represent the 2d fighting scene on St. Maarten! Jamaica really suprised me... they were incredible. The guys are the most versatile set of gamers i have ever met. They play EVERYTHING... and ALL of it at a high level. Later, when we release the full brackets, you will see what i mean. The medal count table only shows up to 4rd place... but these guys got a BUNCH of 4th's and fifth. For a real nice story on Andrew's side, check out this post here he made at Area 51. http://www.area51jamaica.com/area51forum/viewtopic.php?t=554And, as you see, jamaica had the highest medal ratio by far! They had the least numbers of contestants to get medals 0 just 2 players to get 9 points! Now gameboyz... wow... i mean those guys were simply unstopable. Great team, great potential to become professional, and thats what we will be aiming for these guys. We want to get them to more tournaments and more gigs. For certain, we have them lined up to go to the ESWC qualifier in Martinique next year, and once they win there (which they will) Trinidad will be represnting the Caribbean at the Electronic Sports World Cup in France for 2006. Well i gotta go to work now... i'll try and pass by and hit more updates as they come. Be sure to check out the vxg website for pics and more news... www.vxg2k6.com

Well guys, VxG is just about 1 month away! We have a good bit of pre-registrations from trinidad, 21 pre-registration forms so far, which is way above our expectations. I really have to thank Baego and GATT for allowing me to promote the event here and informing the gamers. I've even learned a lot here by reading other threads and listening to your views. We still have a few more things to get down on paper before we can have everyone who pre-registered do the actual registration process. We will also be announcing the official prizes on the site today, so be sure to keep posted to www.vxg2k6.com. So how many of you out of the 21 are the guys from GATT that are coming to VxG? Is bryanmaster still coming, cause Jin11 arrived on the island recently and is looking forward to that match! What about Baego, you coming too? We'll be having a great luncheon meeting with all the game organizers from around the Caribbean to discuss some serious issues, and hopefully we'll have some very positive outcomes for organized gaming in the caribbean.

Hey guys,
At VxG, we're having a lil debate on what system we should use for our competition. The choice is either to use a new but lengthy system, Round Robin/Double Elimination hybrid, or just go with our old single elimination format (or doubleelimination).
Since we have a 3 -day event, it will probably be manageable for us, and our aim is to provide more playing time for the players (value for money) and also avoid "flukes".
For those of you that may be unsure of the systems: Round Robin is where each player is placed into pools of 4. Each player in the pools play each other at least once. When everyone is done playing, the 2 players with the most wins move out of the pool into the next round. This is similar to what is done in the Soccer World Cup
In double elimination, everyone is allowed to lose twice. You play a match, and if you lose once, you are allowed to compete again.
Both are known to be lengthy formats, but both are used in combination for game tournaments since it: * Gives the player more playing time, hence more value for money * Eliminates random losses and “flukes”
In the past, players could have lost ONE MATCH, and that was the end of their competition, not to mention the end of their $10 or $20. Now, players will get more games for their dollar, and also have more chances at winning. In the end, you are rewarded generously for your hard work with our prizes of course.

Heyguys,
Just wanted to point out that there are a few updates at the VxG Site, mainly on the game list page.
Notice that MVC2 has been changed to Sega DC, and GGXX to Xbox. Also see our flash demo's of the games to get more infromation on how it will be played at Video X Games.

Hey guys, The official game roster is out and is available at the website. Here is the exact link: http://www.vxg2k6.com/officialgamelist.htmAs you can see, most of the games are gonna be played on the PS2 console, after tallying our votes and due to past experience in hosting these games on that console. We know that some want xbox and some want DC and some even want gamecube, but we hope that everyone will go along with the decision to host most multiplatform games on PS2. Also, you'll notice that Counterstrike has been officially made Counterstrike 1.6 for the VxG competition. Feedback from this decision elsewhere has been ok, as most who play source now used to play CS 1.6 before, and will be burshing up on the 1,6 skills for our tournament. Prizes: We are posting a minimum prize of USD $1000.00 in cash for the winning team of Counterstrike 1.6. Each player of the winning team will also be given a software bundle with games yet to be determine (legal titles of course). The secon place team will receive a minimum prize of USD $300 in cash and will also receive a software bundle. As more people sign up and send in registration forms for this game, the more our sponsors will be willing to give out for this competiton. So come out in full force and we can probably bring that first prize up to $2000!! Well, thats my weekend briefing. I am in barbados right now and i have no internet at home where i'm staying, so i won't be online until next week. My assistants will check my emails until then, though, so you can always email us at info@vxg2k6.com. Next week i will be in puerto rico meeting with the Gaming organizations there. They send their regards, and are looking forward to meeting the trinidadians for the first time at VxG. you can check our their new site at: http://s13.invisionfree.com/GamerGuild/index.php?Later guys... have a good weekend.

Very excellent work, putting this together Rolando.
You have done all the work for us. (a good thing)
On our last trip, it took quite a bit of effort getting all the bits of the puzzle together.
A few things you're missing out though:
Passport/Visa requirements.
Departure taxes if any (From Trinidad that is a TT$100.00 / US$16 Tax)
Heads up on luggage (Charges apply if you're taking heavy bags too/fro)
These should not be show stoppers for the average competitor but definitely good stuff to know.
Also, we need to talk about the Fifa 2006 event. I've messaged you about it but will mention it here just in case you read this first.
Much to discuss indeed.
Good questions... i didn;t answer them at the time because, quite frankly, i wasnt SURE. HOwever, i now have the official word frm the immigration Dept. For trinidadians, NO visa is required to Enter the netherlands antilles, (whcih includes St. Maarten. The only thing they may ask when you enter is how much money you travel with and the duration of your stay. They expect you to have at least $50 for each day that you are here. Of course, since you guys will be paying for your hotel, and may be walking with "Vex Money" that will most likley be the case. But to dispel all immigration concerns, we will be sending an offical letter to the Dept. informing them in advance of your arrival and particiaption in VxG. That way, we might even get you to skip the long lines and get you into the airport V.I.P lounge while yo uwait for us to get your bags and take you to the hotel (working on that one still.. but that is quite standard for conferences and competitions). So basically, you walk with a letter from VxG that is CC'ed to the Immigration dept, and you good to go... ahem... good to come! In life, the only thing certain are Death and Taxes... Yes there is an airport tax DEPARTING sxm. The tax is a whopping $30.00 USD. Yeh i know its fucking high and i who travel so often hate it more than anyone else... Baggage: With liat you are allowed 50 LBs...Whateevr is valuable and fragile, bring it on your carry on luggage. We suggest that for those of you bringing PC's, you bring them in a suitcase with towels or t-shirts padding around it, and put a couple fragile stickers on it. People have brought PC's (myself included, i travel with my PC unit between Holland and St. Maarten like 4 times a year) and no incidents were reported. Of course, VxG can;t be held responsible for what our crappy caribbean airlines like to do with your luggage, but we will be sending a letter to the airlines when we make the final deal cautioning them of the equipment some of you guys will be walking with. So with that, in terms of coming here, you have all the info you need i think. Many of your will have questions and concerns about the games and rules. Please feel free to email me about any questions you have concenring games. The best way to get a quick response about game rules is at our forum though, since the head referee is the admin there: http://vxg2k6.proboards33.com/index.cgiOh another thing. If any of you are travelling as Press to cover the event, there will be special provisions made for you. YOu will not have to pay the registration fee (if you are not playing any games) but you must verify that you are going to publish the material in the trinidad media (newspaper and websites like Gatt). We will have a press box, where you can use computers, copiers and faxes to get infor back to trinidad as soon as it happens. Let me know if you guys have anyone who would like to be your press rep(s).

Hey guys... haven;t been her ein a while, since i been in contact with those of you who have already registered. But i think its time i update everyone else, in case others are still thinking about registering. So far, Trinidad leads the number of Caribbean confirmed Registrations with about 10. We expect even more of you to come, and probably end up going with a lot of prizes too! Also, Prez, a native trinidadian who lives in Canada (street fighter champ there) will be coming to the tourney also as a guest too. Anyway, here is some important details about those of you who want to come (all dollar references are USD). Hotel Most of you have elected to stay in a hotel, and lots of you have also agreed to share rooms. For those of you willing to share rooms, i think i would suggest you get in contact with eachother. Trinidadians will be getting a very special offer! One of the premier hotels on the island, Royal Palm Hotel, will be offering a discounted rate. Their rooms are Big, beautiful and very comofrtable. It has 3 TV's (plenting of gaming for you while you at your room) one of St. Maarten's nicest pools and its close to eh beach and partty area of the island. It's only about 10 minutes from the event location (depending on traffic), but we will provide transportation anyway. The unit has 2 bedrooms each with a kingsize bed and a king size couhcbed outside. It has a kitchen too, so if you wanna cook up your own dinner you'll be free to to do so. Here is a link to the hotel: http://www.royalpalmbeachresort.com/The cost will be $140 per night per ROOM. This is very good, since you guys can choose how many of you wish to share the room. Personally, i suggest sharing it between 5 of you. That way, you end up paying only about $120 in accomodation EACH for the entire duration, from thursday to monday. You can even have 6 (2 per bed) and the savings would be even greater. We leave that much up to you. For those of you who do not want to share rooms or would prefer something simpler, we have mid-town motel offering about $40.00 per night for a single-bed room. Of course, your own rooms costs you more money, so we STRONLGY recommend sharing rooms. Hope this is clear... let me know what you think Airline For trinidad, this is our biggest holdup. We have ben trying to get a discounted rate but have not received any repsonce as yet. However, i can show you the regular rates that you can expect, travelling with Liat, to attend the competition. The reuglar fare on Liat amounts to just over $160, plus tax. So to be safe, $200.00 would be the regular fare you could expect in the WORST case scenario. In the event that we do not succeed to gauranttee any lower price, we will advize that you take this offer. For those of you willing to spend a bit more, or if you have frequent flyer deals with BWIA, you can also fly to St. Maarten using that airline. Caribbean Sun also offers flights, but none of the airliens are cheaper than Liat. We recommend liat, but as you can see, we also recommend you fly on the day before the competition just in case! Cost So as you can see, so far you are looking at about $120 for accomdation and about $200 for travel. The regsitration fees have been at the site for some time (hope you saw it already) and those would amount to: INTERNATIONAL PACKAGE: Registration Fee (Entire Weekend) $ 65.00 Price per Game $ 5.00 Re-entry fee* $ 3.00 So, say one of you come and sigs up for 4 games, you can expect a total expense of $400.00 whcih includes accomodation, flight, breakfast, lunch and transportation, plus other specials. You can choose how much you want to walk with to spend on shopping (St. Maarten is one of the Nuber 1 shopping destinations!) and dinner. I personally recommend about $20 per day. Payment VxG only requires you to pay your registration fee in full BEFORE june 14th 2006, whcih is $65.00. Your hotel reservation will be made, but you will have to pay on your arrival. Your ticket will have to be paid for in trinidad, depending on whether you book online or with a travel agent. The payment will be made to a bank account in Trinidad, and your proof of payment can be faxed to us, or you can scan and email it. We will give you further information as soon as this bank account is set up (expect in 1 week). The registration fee is non-refundable since as soon as we receive your payment, we would have already begun printing your shirts, badges and processing your reservations. We encourage you to please register on time! There will be a much higher price for late regsitrations (after the june 14th deadline) is any are allowed at all. Your ideas Many of you have given some great ideas, such as including portable gaming and PC Gaming. Thanks a lot for the ideas.... Keep them coming. You can email us at this email (info@vxg2k6.com) anytime with you ideas, or drop a post in our forums. Prizes The games will be given prizes accoridng to our tradiontal approach, where the highest grossing game gets the highest prize. In other words, the more people you had to beat to win, the better your prize. This makes sense, to reward your efforts and to ensure that those who had the hardest time winning get good prizes. Of course, ALL prizes will be good. Last year, we gave away nothing less than "slim version" ps2 consoles (very new at the time), along with several PSP's, Flights with american airlines, home threates, and more. Expect the prizes to be MUCH improved this year. We will also be offering 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes this year, with the tradional 60-20-10 routine. Expect a total purse of over $10,000 US Dollars. That at least 750 USD per game. Well thats about it for now. You now know how much you can expect it to cost for you to come. We thank you so much for your interest in VxG, and we really look forward to seeing you here. Best Regards, Rolando Brison Chief Coordinator, VxG info@vxg2k6.com

Hey guys, The Video X Games committee is in full swing to start the new year. Several new major updates have been made, since we have now decided on our game roster and schedule of events, and registration has opened. The Video X Games roster can be found at our website, www.vxg2k6.com. The specific link for the game roster is http://www.vxg2k6.com/thegamestheroster.htmAs you can see, we have almost 20 games on our lineup. Our competition ussually includes 15-20 games, since we are not specifically catering to any particular Genre. Also, notice that we've added PC Games to our roster for the first time ever. Counterstrike Source is confrimed, warcraft 3 with the DOTA expansion is being considered, especially due to the high number of votes it received at our website. The main constraint with Warcraft is time... we'll update that issue soon. You can also check out the schedule for the weekend at the following link: http://www.vxg2k6.com/the2006schedule.htmPlease fill in the Pre-Regsitration form for a.s.a.p to ensure you can get the cheapest possible fare for coming to St. Maarten. The more of you that register, the better the deals we can get from airlines and hotels. Next, we'll be putting up the pricing for the competition and the Prizes very soon, so keep visiting our site and forums for updates. Our total purse of prizes is expected to value in excess of $10.000, including 4 trips to the Giga Games in Guadloupe to the winners of Pro Evoultion Soccer, Need for Speed, Tekken 5 and SC3.

Ok... game roster is still in the works... the main reason we don't want to put one out is because we don't want people to think "Thats it?"... See, we can't rule out the games that are out and coming out for XBOX 360, and also even those for ps3... so there are a lot of games still that m ight sneak in... Here are the sureshot games: Tekken (version pending) Street fighter (CVS and 3S, other versions pending) Soul Calibur 3 Need For Speed (version pending) Halo 2 Fight Night (Version Pending) NBA Live/NBA @K (one of the two series, latest version) FIFA or Pro Evolution (this will be decided by whcih soccer game gets more votes) Super Smash Bros Melee WWE Smackdown (Version pending) And probbaly a few others... i did this off the top of my head, so those are the ones that will be in FOR SURE... but there is a good chance many other games are in... Remeber that VxG is a very democratic competition, in that we involve the society in selecting our game-roster, while still trying to keep up to date withthe international standards that we require, in order to keep our EVO, WCG, ans Shoryuken affiliations. Naruto... I'll be honest: I've neevr seen anyone on St. Maarten play the game.I saw it up in the Netherlands, and i know that the guys coming from there and England have been requesting it. There is a good chance for it to get in. Update: Just had a phonecall withthe head refereee, and our official game roster will be publicly released on February 4th. We'll update everyone accordingly. Please sign up to our forums at www.vxg2k6.com so we can keep you up to date with thtese developments. Also, thank you guys for your pre-regsitration forms so far, you will receive a response in about 3 business days. For those of you who haven't pre-regsitered, please do so. There is no obligation once you send in the form, it is for information purposes only.

Hey i'l come too hehe...

« on: November 26, 2005, 04:03:17 AM »
Defintely a possiblity, but we'll bring out our ranking system anyway and see if its compatible with others from there. The Vx-Guage already tries hard to balance both the needs of our two major affiliates: Evo fighting championship and WCG... so whatever we do will have to be along those lines. I would strongly suggest you keep their guidelines (at least WCG's) too.
As i mentione din the post, it will only apply to tournaments that are sanctioned, so if competition wish to have their contestants ranked, they can submit their tournaments for sanctioning.

Hey guys, just a little update. We'll be sending out our newsletter this weekend. For those of you that would like to receive it, you can either put your email in this forum or you can subscribe by sending an email to info@vxg2k6.com. The Video X-Games will put its highly anticipated ranking system into effect by the begining of December. The system, codenamed the "Vx-Guage", will be used to rank all contestants in snactioned tournaments on St. Maarten and around the Caribbean according to a complex formula that takes many factors into account, such as the number of contestants, contestant ranking, number of kills, points and other bonusses, level of the event, streak bonusses and many others. The result is a total of points that is awarded to the player. More info on the system will be available on our website by the end of this week ( www.vxg2k6.com).

halo is pretty lame, if you want good comp for that go to TX
as for T5.1 , it's much more balanced than that piece of trash 5.0
that's why we play it.
Okk let me explain one thing about Jin11 - anything that is not Tekken, or more specifically, anythying that he does not play, is LAME. The one thing i admit i really hate about him. Halo is NOT lame on St. Maarten. As a matter of fact, it sis THE BIGGEST game on St. Maarten. The hghest grossing VxG Game last July was Halo 2. We have halo 2 tournaments almost every week. The European champion on Halo, Jehiel Alexander, Halo 2 is born on St. Maarten! For those of you looking for Halo competition, St. Maarten and Video X-Games is surely the place to be.
