News / 71 Foreign Women Held
« on: July 23, 2007, 07:49:40 AM »
Quote

Army and police officers hiding behind masks and carrying machine guns broke into a hotel at San Fernando and arrested 71 foreign women believed to be working there as prostitutes.

The raid on a six-building complex of apartments and a club resembled that of a law enforcement operation against terrorists, witnesses said.

The arrests came two weeks after 21 women were taken by police from the Villa Capri hotel.

Three of those woman pleaded guilty in court to illegally entering Trinidad and confessed to being prostitutes working at the business.

In a statement, the National Security Ministry said the arrests of the women-who are from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Suriname, Colombia, and Guyana-were part of the effort to combat human and drug trafficking into the country.

Three women held at the hotel are locals and were released from police custody.

Eleven days ago, the US State Department released its Trafficking in Persons 2007 Report, which named those four South American countries, among others, as being involved in the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation. (See fact box)

Police took no chances Saturday night.

A helicopter with search lights hovered, as 100 officers from the Defence Force, Inter-Agency Task Force, Special Anti-Crime Unit, and Immigration Department, encircled the buildings.

They brought three drug- sniffing dogs and were accompanied by British officers.

Police took away stacks of documents relating to the women and the finances of the business.

Customers tried jumping fences, and women screamed and yelled in Spanish as two buses and 20 unmarked SUVs and pick-up vans belonging to law enforcement pulled up at Elizabeth Street, Marabella, San Fernando at 9.15 p.m.

More than 100 men were taken from the club, with hands behind their heads, and kept for two hours in the buses before they were set free.

Police also questioned the hotel's owner Cecil Sydney, who is bedridden and lives on the compound with his wife and children.

For seven hours, hooded police and immigration officers fingerprinted and photographed the women.

Police searched the buildings, ransacked bedrooms and ordered the women to collect their travel documents and clothing.

Surrounding streets were cordoned off, and residents kept indoors.

Chief Immigration Officer Herman Brown, who oversaw the raids, said sex workers were entering Trinidad in record numbers.

He said there was a greater effort now to protect the borders.

He said the women will be charged with illegally entering Trinidad.

On November 25, South American women were arrested at the Santa Maria Hotel, at Bagna Trace, Chase Village.

They pleaded guilty to illegally entering Trinidad by fishing pirogue along Trinidad's gulf coast.

They all said they were working as prostitutes. All were sent to prison and later deported.

The women said they worked as prostitutes to support destitute families back home.

Ole Talk / KFC FOREVER.......not anymore....
« on: July 11, 2007, 12:36:24 PM »
Got this in an email  :protest: :crybaby2:

To Whom This May Concern

Well to tell you the truth, it is of great concern to me, and should be, to all who eat from KFC 'restaurants', nationwide, and numerous they are. Earlier this week, (Tuesday evening to be exact), a good friend of mine bought KFC from the outlet located at Isaac Junction, Couva, and got much more than she bargained or paid for. Luckily for her, because of her 'picky' habit, she did not just bite directly into the side breast that she had ordered. But let me start from the beginning. When she got home with her 'meal', she started to eat her piece of chicken by breaking it piece by piece (as is her custom), and found that in one particular area, there was a section of tough hardened skin, which looked like a swollen 'sack', and as she describes it 'like when a dog has a swelling on its neck due to an infection and results in a hard puffy area on the spot'. She proceeded to break the 'coocoon' open, only to be greeted by on outburst of 'stuff', in her words 'looking like tiny bits of minced soya, which upon closer inspection smelled worse than the "la basse" '. Might that have been 'deep fried' maggots? She immediately felt sick to her stomach and could not stop washing her mouth out. She threw away the smelly morsel, and related her tale when she came into the office on Wednesday morning. I told her that she should have returned the offensive 'snack' to the perpetrators of this deed. Now she has no evidence and she is afraid that no one would believe her. She was traumatised by the experience (both sight and smell), she could have become greviously ill, and swears that she will NEVER eat KFC again. I do not eat KFC, but I have many friends who do. Many kids are, for want of a better word, 'addicted' to this fast food. KFC, you have a responsibility to your customers to ensure that what you serve is fit for human consumption, and you should be held accountable, if there is any deficiency in this area. Are there no quality standards, as a matter of course, at this establishment? Geeeeeeeeeeze KFC, HOW DISGUSTING!!

Dear citizens,

This picture you are viewing is a piece of chicken that was purchased on Thursday 7th June 2007 at the K.F.C San Juan outlet.

My children were about to eat, only to find out that a piece of wire was imbedded into the chicken.

I reported the matter to Ms. Josanne Desouza at Prestige Holdings, she then told me that “someone will visit my house to investigate the matter”.

The next day Mr. Amus Charles visited my house after discussing the matter he said “that he will have to take the piece of chicken to the San Juan outlet for further investigation”. About two days later Ms. Desouza called me to inform me that her superiors said “that it is not their fault”. After informing her that it is their responsibility to make sure that what is given to the consumers is of standard befitting for consumption, she then told me that she will inform her superiors and get back to me.

A few days had pass and someone from Prestige Holdings called me and told me that “Prestige Holdings will not be taking responsibility and it was the chicken plant that was given the contract to wash, season and marinate the chicken which is then delivered to the outlets”.

This is to let you the consumers know the kind of garbage that they are giving us to eat. The health system is already in a mess, so then why should we have to eat this kind of garbage and get sick only to end up in the hospital? So i am appealing to you the consumers of K.F.C. Don't pay high prices for food that is not suitable for consumption, food that will get you sick and in the end there is no one who wants to take the responsibility.

My final advice to you when you buy at K.F.C. Demand a bill for what you purchase just as how i don't have a bill to prove i bought this chicken, It is K.F.C. policy that they don't give you a bill when you purchase at the counter.

A bill is only given to you upon delivery after you call in and place an order.

Respectfully

Former K.F.C Customer

San Juan

Politics & Soap Box Rants / Rant: Strife
« on: April 27, 2007, 12:02:58 PM »
Hope no one ranted about this before but from the looks of recent developments it seems this should be a rant.

Before I begin I want to make a few things  clear...Im not  religously biased in anyway but I i try to make my religon my way of life. If you have a problem with this then I suggest you leave this thread now and thanks for pre-viewing.

That being said...it's been two weeks since the 'akon' incident and it seems that even the politians are having something to say. Not a problem what these so called ppl in authority should do is visit hi-rpm on a saturday between  12pm-6pm during the day and they would probably see the same thing but with younger girls and not so famous men.

Now everyone must have seen the dreaded 'video' but what i heard from my friend who were there was that NO one showed the video of the girl enticing AKon prior to his horny rampage over her.

Alot of ppl are saying "BLAME THE PARENTS" or "CLOSE DOWN ZEN" or "IS MANNING FAULT"....i'll deal with the last one frist

HOW IN THE F*** is Manning fault? he buy the clothes and pay for the ticket for the girl? steups......gosh

Now i heard lastnight that they close Zen indefinitely.......till next week

Well the parents are to blame for giving the child money if anything at all cause
1. You make the child not the mind
2. No matter how hard you try or how good you bring up a child unless you have a saint on your hands they are bound to rebel at some point human nature and worse yet trini nature - natural non-conformists
3. As parents you are allowed to trust your child unless your one of those keep the child in the house so much so that at the age of 19-20 when they do get out they're social outcasts
4. Shorty left home with a jacket.....
5. There are supposed to be laws and restrictions that prevent a 14-15 yr old from going to a place like that regardless of parental consent

Imho the only person to blame is the girl her self......for being foolish...not young and stupid to quote some high ranking official who should be chained and whipped for even saying that

Now on another note....christians seemed to be taking this  hit the hardest....all over i keep hearing "pastor daughter this and pastor that and blah blah yada yada"

Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling if this had been a pundits daughter we would have never known or heard little about it from word to mouth and not in the media? jus an observation.

Politics & Soap Box Rants / RANT - Smelters
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:09:10 AM »
*Takes a deep breath and calms self*
Ok this is my two cents on these smelter plants that are so called "good for the economy"...

Since is too much to post check it out yourselves

http://www.nosmeltertnt.com/health_risks.html

Honestly when they declared that they are going to build an Aluminum smelter plant in Trinidad my first thought was "That not dangerous?" when i got all the info i was like "WTMC WRONG WITH PATRICK?"

Then when i realise the EMA "attempted" to block it i was relieved then coming home one day over the radio i hear the EMA proclaim that it is within their environmental safety laws so........basically go ahead.....
*sighs*

Now can someone explain to me what the Environmental Management Agency supposed to be doing beside arresting ppl who throwing a KFC box out their windows...I seriously thought they were there to protect the environment...

This brings me back to when they refuse to let a green peace nuclear waste ship through the caribbean i was much too young then to know the extent of the threat but i was able to comprehend at least that a spill would result in no fish for years.

Aluminum is almost, if not just as bad, as nulcear radiation in it's raw potent form (which they will be processing here). Now I'm not a Pessimist but honestly speaking i think it is too big a risk to take. Trinidad is simply too small to deal with an accidental spill or just the added waste that will be going into the Gulf of Paria. We can't even dealing with simple flooding here.As the article above says the ppl in the area will also be affected phyically.

I almost slap a fella who said he glad the smelter coming cause he will have a job for the next few years in constructing it. But then i thought about it....it's the same narrow minded thinking that has this smelter project almost up and running. A quick dollar is all the goverment seems to care about. I mean these ppl are of age (meaning they have what between 5-20 yrs left on their life clock) but what about us? Must we pay for their misjudgements? I seriously do not want to know that there is an increased chance my child will come out with a disability or cancer will more than likely be my cause of death.

Sigh when i heard Pat announce the third smelter i think i just resolved that if as such a time that even one of those smelters goes up.......i gone......Isn't it enough we have to live in fear of being robbed,raped,shot.....etc now the very air we breathe is killing us......seriously PPL i good. Sorry to abandon but i prefer to struggle to live than struggle not to die.

Peace
