Let's not, however, forget the other side of the coin: the inexplicably delayed port. Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed series, for instance, has been doing it for years – with speculative whispers chalking it up to piracy avoidance. But here's the thing: it only encourages piracy. If you treat people like second-class citizens, don't be surprised when they start doing whatever's necessary to get ahead.

Awesome you write this or what

Ole Talk / Massive quake 8.9(updated to 9.0), tsunami ravage Japan
« on: March 11, 2011, 12:03:29 PM »
TOKYO – A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes on record slammed Japan's eastern coast Friday, killing hundreds of people as it swept away ships, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control.

Hours later, the tsunami hit Hawaii but did not cause major damage. Warnings blanketed the Pacific, putting areas on alert as far away as South America, Canada, Alaska and the entire U.S. West coast. In northeastern Japan, the area around a nuclear power plant was evacuated after the reactor's cooling system failed.

Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicenter. Another 110 were confirmed killed, with 350 people missing. Police also said 544 people were injured.

The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake unleashed a 23-foot (seven-meter) tsunami and was followed for hours by more than 50 aftershocks, many of them of more than magnitude 6.0.

Dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile (2,100-kilometer) stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the epicenter. A large section of Kesennuma, a town of 70,000 people in Miyagi, burned furiously into the night with no apparent hope of being extinguished, public broadcaster NHK said.

"The earthquake has caused major damage in broad areas in northern Japan," Prime Minister Naoto Kan said at a news conference.

Reviews, Previews & First Looks / EA Working On Next Medal of Honor
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:59:10 PM »

Quote
espite sub-par reviews, EA's reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise was a commercial success. The company recently announced that the game had sold over 5 million copies.

Today, Medal of Honor developer Danger Close (a part of EALA), posted a blog confirming what many already suspected: the studio is hard at work on a new Medal of Honor title. In a post titled "In Case You Were Wondering...," executive producer Greg Goodrich broke the good news: "Yes, Danger Close is working on the next Medal of Honor."

He also promised that the team has "studied, listened, and absorbed much of your feedback and are very excited to be marching forward on the next title." Let's hope this approach yields a better game next time around.

In his closing, Goodrich also thanked the many active servicemen and veterans that had written the studio with words of support, commenting, "Medal of Honor has always been fueled by the passion of our fans and the commitment and sacrifice shown by the men and women of our armed services."

General Gaming & System Wars / Dead Island
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:46:25 PM »

"Dead Island is a non-linear first-person shooter in which you find yourself on an island plunged into chaos. It's a place where the word "dead" has an entirely new meaning. Face the nightmare and fight for survival.
Use anything you find in your surroundings as a weapon. Make decisions that influence the entire world around you, take advantage of opponent behavior and game physics, and explore the secrets hidden in the darkest regions of the island. "

Will it be a L4D replacement?

Reviews, Previews & First Looks / Duty Calls
« on: February 04, 2011, 01:10:07 AM »
To illustrate that its upcoming game Bulletstorm isn’t your average first-person shooter, publisher Electronic Arts has created a spoof of Activision’s blockbuster series, Call of Duty.

EA bills Duty Calls as “the most epicly epic game of all time,” and has made it available as a free download.

EA and Activision are currently in a USD $400 million legal battle that stems from the departure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 creators Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward.

EA lists the key features:

•Duty Vision™ slows down the action so you can unload a storm of bullets
•Immersive dialogue from the front lines
•Cold, calculated realism
•Killing animations motion captured from real actors
•True-life reloading system allows for mistakes in putting the cartridge in the gun
•Iconic sound effects
•Thwart an enemy threat that could topple the country and possibly the world
•Significant and historically accurate props

Duty Calls- the most epically epic game of all time
