Officially confirmed now, Soul Calibur IV is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2008. While details are pretty slim, the newest teaser trailer reveals a few tidbits about the game.

Ivy, Mitsurugi and Nightmare will all be returning for some current-gen action, in addition to several unannounced new characters (and obviously almost if not all of the Soul Calibur III cast). Also, the game apparently features "realistic environments, interactive stages, enhanced AI, and a new battle system," according to the folks over at Namco Bandai.

"Soul Calibur has been a cornerstone franchise for Namco Bandai Games and this latest edition will build upon its legacy of groundbreaking fighting experiences," said Makoto Iwai, executive VP and COO at Namco Bandai Games America. "With Soul Calibur IV, long-time fans and newcomers to the franchise will be amazed by its visual beauty and intense, pulse pounding weapon combat."

Isn't that included in like every single ne fighting game that comes out??? lol

But yea, hope it turns out good, being that I never really got into 1-3...

Well, I just recently got into this Soul Calibur thing (hey, what can I say? I'm lazy), so this is some pretty good news for me, at least.

online play is doubtful as the hardcore people will settle for nothing less than 100% lagfree aka 60FPS constant which sadly isnt happening as far as I can see. Tekken 6 is already said to have no online for the same reason.

This is EXCELLENT news.

Can't get enough of Soul Calibur. Great find Rage.

I agree, online play could haul it's mc. lol

Got enough lag issues with other genres as is, to go adding my precious fighting game experience to the list.

Starcraft 2 and now Soul Calibur 4, life is good.

You do realize that theres stuff that works offline that doesnt work online right. Its completely different.

Well we're talking about these games designed for either the Xbox 360 or PS3, both are online multiplayer systems. So, I don't think that they would make a game these days for the 360 or PS3 especially a fighting game that is NOT online multiplayer. Then Xbox Live and Sony Online would be a waste.

thats not true
baego and others just explained WHY certain games shuldnt be online playable

doa is a button smasher so frame timing doesnt matter
but tekken and sc , timing matter a hel of a lot and thats why the risk of lag i just not worth it

it could be, but developers couldnt care less bout hardcore gamers. They cannot cater for everyone as we all know. The "hardcore gamers" games either take a very long time to produce because of the time and money they need to accumulate for the gameplay detail. The games released today speak for themselves. If online is a possibility w/o the lag they will use it, even if its minimal. The smaller companies are under attack from money losses, they will do what they can to keep sales up.

Well, that rather sucks. As I recall, that was one of the major gripes fans had with Tekken 4, if I'm not mistaken.
In any case, doesn't really man much to me.....it's not like I'd have an online connection to really take advantage, anyway.

it takes time an money to develop the game for online play as well as time and money to develop the online system for play

so if people dont want it, and not gonna use it, then why waste money on making it.

I work as a software research engineer in Japan, and believe me when i say this -
on line functionality is easy as it can get, and a game with only 2 players -
action game - needs about 200 ping and a 56k modem, thats it...
So if on line ladder and lots more play do not come to SC 4 then its only the
MANAGEMENTS fault, and honestly, firm with bad management is doomed...
I really hope this is not the case with namco as i am biggest fan of SC serial!

I find it strange that Soul Calibur 4 is right around the corner and people are just not talking about it.

First, two new characters have been revealed:

The lady in white is known as 'Angol Fear'. You will also notice that Amy, Raphael's young ward from the previous games, is now available as a fighter. There is also a new character by the name of 'Scheherazade', but I can't seem to secure a picture of him.

Also, some new costumes have been revealed for some of the returning characters.
Before I post up the links, I have one question to ask:

"So, ladies. SCIV is right around the corner. What are you girls wearing for the occassion?"

Looks like Soul Calibur IV's motto is "Sexy times to be had by all." Rawr.
