VERY impressive results.  Actually matching the Ultra 120.  The difference between that and the Extreme is minimal in my opinion.
Apparently, Thermalright has found a winner with this design.  This cooler is a great substitute for the Ultra 120 Extreme where space is a factor.

I STILL think that Thermalright should ship these coolers with proper high-performance, long-life, low-noise fans. :shakehead:  I mean come on man, if
they can design such great coolers, why not design great fans to go with em?  I can guarantee that they will have real winners if ALL their
products ship with 'bess' fans.  All the other HSF manufacturers seem to 'get it'.

I actually like that they DON'T ship with a fan. You now have the power to research and decide which fan suits your needs best. It have more than enough fan manufacturers out there. and it's no diferent to choosing one for your case. For the record, they do recommend Panaflo fans to use with their coolers. Sure, it may cost you an extra US$5 - $20 for the fan you settle with, but at least is a fan you [ought to] be satisfied with.

For my Extreme, I chose a Thermaltake 120mm Smartfan II LED... controller in a PIC spacer and find the right balance of noise and cooling... You self Arcman, like your thermaltake fans. You trying to tell me it is too much trouble to slap one on? c'mon.

Arc, knowing how strongly you feel about this though, this right here is a case of "we agree to disagree". What else can I say?

Fan research for HSFs is actually recommended now, but when you buy such a nice cooler, I just feel its another headache to now
have to look for a fan too.  I tried to find the fans that Anandtech recommends for these HSFs, but as usual, the online retailers
we can buy from don't list em.

Well, I'm happy to report that this cooler is indeed a very worthy substitute for the Ultra-120.
I installed it in my LAN rig, using an Antec 120mm fan, and achieved an idle temp of 40C and a load temp of 56C.

Keep in mind that the CPU is OC'ed to 3 GHz.  Very impressive results considering that the HSF base is not lapped.
I am sure that a healthy lapping will carry these temps down quite a bit further.
