Oh come on, look at the size of that compared to the Asus.  How 'ultraportable' is that...and WDF is 'Everex'?  o_O

The Eee PC was designed to fit a particular niche.  I myself have many great uses for it where my regular laptop would be a bit inconvenient.
This thing is great for techs on the road, like myself.  Not to mention its quite the multimedia powerhouse when XP is installed.

Amazon can't keep enough of these things, so obviously somebody seems to like em.  The Asus EeePC forums is a clear indication of this.

Everex has been around for 25 years. Not because it eh your favouritest brand name it mean it eh good. Come on you sonding like Crix there.

Sure there are those people who not willing to tote around a bigger laptop, but for others like me who looking for bang for buck would leave the EEE alone. Sure when it first came out it was a novelty because of its size but for $300us more, i'd rather have a fully functional powerful gaming LAPTOP rather than have to squint to see that multimedia.

MAYBE if I have extra money burning a hole in my pocket ill get the fEEEver but definately not before I get that Everex machine!

Ah..what you stated there is exactly my point.  Its not for gamers like us, but it has its uses.
That Everex has an impressive spec list, but where I usually need to use my laptop (work/PJs), I just
don't have time to game, hence the Eee PC.  I actually use it more for PJs now than my laptop.

OK, I merged all the 'Asus Eee PC' related threads into this one, so all related discussion should go here.

...and @ Captain Awesome: if people willing to watch multimedia on an even smaller iPod or PSP screen,
then I don't see what's the problem here. ???

yea, i'm quite liking the Asus, and i gonna get mine by next week :happy0203:

for multimedia, recently i've been quite satisfied using my Cowon A2, and that's only a 4" (480 x 272). so, goin 'up' to the 7" screen should be a treat!!

stickied the eee topic

and the 8.9 inch display supposed to be coming out by summer

this thing will be absolutely perfect with an evdo card

ive been looking high and low for de longest while for de best solution for people with a pcmcia evdo card that have express slot laptops

and i found a few good things. some people have usb evdo so they lucky off the bat, but others not so lucky

the only problem is that the pcmcia to express converter doesnt work on linux so id have to use windows, which i dont have a problem with exactly, but it would be great to have it as a linux machine AND have that evdo capability :(.

one possible solution ive been toying with just for my pc and moms laptop before the eee pc came on the scene is cracking open the pcmcia card and taking the data sim out an placing it in a cell phone. then connecting to laptop via usb or blue tooth

the same solution can/will work for eee pc

well this site have pics:

http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/26/asus-9-inch-eee-pc-900-hits-the-fcc/

and I think i will be getting one of these as soon as it launches. If nothing else it should at least overcome the lack of vertical screen height in the 7" ones. (only 800×480 res? I honestly can't deal with that. My eyes done starting to go bad as it is...I 800x600 would have done it for me)

I am expecting a maximum screen res of 1024 x 768

Ent.  Asus had great foresight to ship it with XP drivers.  That scaled down version of XP works like a charm.
I just wish the OS sound files weren't omitted though.

Thus far everyone who has seen it wants one.  This new XP version may outsell the Linux version, which was already hard to get.

Brother has the asus eeepc 4g. He's upgraded the ram and put xp. Now it's not as fast as my desktops (I gotta update this sig... 2 allendales here) but it's zippy enough. It's VERY sturdy in your hands. There's no flex. But the screen is just too small to deal with all the time. It's not the laptop size, but the screen res - standard configuration windows wont fit. Not TOO bad though.

I'm definitely going to get a 9" for the wife this year - actually it is between this and the $700 flipstart (down from ~$2000). Though if it's flippy, it's my toy :D

It's not just a full pc for that price - you can get a better deal on a dell vostro - but portability. Small devices straddling umpc forms have always been costly. This is amazingly cheap given the formfactor, and not bad on the performance at all. plus it's inspiring a slew of others to do the same - e.g. hp's 2133. You can argue the olpc inspired others, but imo, it's ugly as bleh.
:P random text doesn't go out of date does it?

but you can just copy the .wav files from your desktop to the relevant folder if you want eh Arc, and the XP version has already started outselling the eeeXandros!
