Obama wins iowa primary ... First black prez?
« on: January 05, 2008, 08:49:13 AM »
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/04/new.hampshire.2008/index.html

Obama won the Iowa primary with 38% of the democratic vote .. statistics on iowa state that :

Quote
Iowa's population included about 97,000 foreign-born (3.3%).[9] Iowans are mostly of Western European descent. The three largest ancestry groups in Iowa are: German (35.7%), Irish (13.5%), English. The racial make up of the state is 91.0% white (non-Hispanic), 3.8% Hispanic, 2.5% black, 1.6% Asian, and 0.4% American Indian. 1% of respondents report two or more races
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa#Race_and_ancestry

This means that a large amount of whites are willing to vote for obama  over the  other candidates . He definately has a good chance to win...
If any of alyuh have US citizenship... i suggest you take a holiday up north and do some voter padding  , trini style .

I'd like to see that, myself. To me, Obama has had a good chance at winning the election, and this is practically history in the making if he does win.

*shrugs* Better than Hilliary Clinton. In fact...the dems are pretty damned weak this time around. Obama is. the only logical choice among them

I'm still rooting for John McCain, though. But he's behind in the GOP...he needs a surge badly. *sighs*

They have Mike Huckabee as their front runner. Ugh.

This is just one state.  Stop FOOLING yourselves people.  America will NOT elect a black president in our time.
When the white race becomes a minority in America in about 50 years, THEN maybe you'll see it.

Obama winning one primary means nothing in the larger scheme of things.  I just can't WAIT to see
what happens in the so-called 'red' states.

this year i'll be able to vote up here so I'll definitely put mine in.  Although It seems like for a black man to win the election will be very very had.  There is still alot of racial tension but we never know, hopefully they elect the man because of his knowledge and ideals and not have his skin color and parents religion affect him.

I'm not sure about Baptist, I heard they were Muslim and he was also raised as a Muslim and attended a religious school.  Americans have this big fear of Islam as most are ignorant and think all muslims = Terrorist

When George Bush was elected the second time 9/11 was fresh in people minds and george was pro war and getting revenge, which alot of people wanted at the time.

The fact of the matter is, the USA would rather a black man than a white woman in office.

thats not true about 911 being fresh in their minds

the week before bush was re elected
america made the announcement that indeed there were no WMDs in iraq
so , the ENTIRE reason for starting a war with iraq was completely thrown out the window
and they STILL re elected him
thats hard core stupidity

and even though they wont like putting a woman in power
atleast shes a WHITE woman

if it was a black woman... THENNN wow

Gender superiority overshadows racial superiority by FAR this current day and age. Why do you think Panday and them fellas does ball out we have a woman doing this and a woman doing that? Women generally get paid less than men, regardless of colour for doing the same job world wide and are treated differently as well and are generally not chosen for manger type positions no matter how much expierence or how good they perform. Don't think they will let race go over gender, those guys rather see a Black man than a white woman in office.

The democrats have the best chance to win this rounds, everyone ready for a change. What has America gotten with this Bush Regime? Attacked, War, Higher Oil Prices, More War, and now it looks like we heading into a recession, and it will be BAD. IF Obama does win, I can't see him lasting very long, there is racial tension in this country regardless of what people may think, a black president will not be favored amongst the red necks as Arcman meant by his "red America" comment. Look at what happened in 24, that man from the Allstate commercials didn't last two terms, he end up getting killed. There is a far way to go in America for that to ever happen, sad to say...

I'm afraid you're VERY wrong there mate.  A black US president will NEVER happen unless the racial balance of America is changed.
After what has taken place for the last 400 years, it is foolhardy to think ANY black man in this day and age will actually get elected.
Sadly, there are too many white Americans that cling to that 'old' way of thought, and by 'old' I mean racially biased...and IF by some
miracle he DOES get elected, he wont last a full term without some Aryan a$$hole with a high-powered rifle, or a van full of fertiliser
having a go at him.

America aint ready mate.

Keep on wishing.  I'll be right here when its all over to scream 'I TOLD YOU SO!!!'

America getting a black president is like trinis suddenly hating chicken...tomorrow.

Pardon the pun...but this is not simply a black and white issue...and neither is in one of simple racial majority. You guys are saying America and Americans as if it and they aren't extremely polarized these days anyway. The Republicans have left a sour taste in the mouth of many americans...indicative by the Dems takin back the house. Statistically, Obama has the young voter, the black...in fact -all- the minority voters and as absurd as it may sound...Oprah's support. Don't try to deny her influence with females of any demographic all across the country. She's a media monstrosity that can make and break you.

And also...America is still far too patriarchal and will easily vote in a male over a female. Hypothetically, if the dems were to put a female front runner the GOP wouldd put the most liberal republican they had as a front runner to draw dem votes. However, this is a different case. This is no regular female. This is Hillary Clinton. It's not just because she's a woman. It's because she's a waste.

As for the probability of assassination? Someone's going to try...

I don't particularly care about Obama anyway. I keep hoping John McCain pulls through.

Just to point out...Obama's a christian. He was not raised muslim. His father was. I personally think he's a closet atheist, but whatever.

Edit: Thanks for the correction, Arcman.

True racism is still a force to be reckoned with in america , but most racists are republican ANYWAY and stick to the far right .

We'll see what happens as results for the other primaries come in within the following months , this victory for obama is a huge boost .

As Lloyd Best said ' Nothing succeeds like success ' , Obama looks like a winner and has won the first primary , he'll begin to suck up support from other candidates who now look less viable .

Since this is my first post I'd like to say Hello to everyone here at GATT.

I was referred here by a friend of mine, I decided to pass by and saw this topic. I love talking politics so I'd like my first post to be here.

It was a shocker for me to see Obama win the primaries in Iowa honestly, I couldn't believe that the level of intelligence has dropped so low for the America people. I'm a Republican anyway, but if I had to settle with one, Edwards would be my guy if forced to vote. Well I guess since I admitted to being Republican, thoughts of "Redneck", "Racist" or "Pro-Bush" may have entered your minds by the way you people seem to put things here.

Well I have no right to demand anyone think different and it doesn't matter to me. I just thought I'd give my opinion on this topic like everyone else. Since this topic is only about Obama, I'll not go far off it. I believe Obama would make a horrible president given his ideas on the major issues, which is pretty much like the other Democrats really. He now as a strong amount of supporters however, but like how it was claimed that most racists are Republicans, I'd claim that Democrats are of intellectually lacking and illogical people. I also believe that the ignorant far outnumber the intelligent as well, perhaps giving reason for such a surge for Obama.

That's pretty much my opinion, I know it's very light and I don't plan on going into much detail really. If anyone has a problem or wishes to have a nice clean debate and thinks they have the correct logic and high intellect to debate with a political genius and member of the WAB as myself, I would gladly accept. I don't really want to attack anything but I will defend by view if it is threatened or directly bashed in any way.

Oh boy...here we go. (I can just guess who referred you, but we don't want to go back there).

I think I speak for most when I say that we do not generally 'debate' American politics on this Trini gaming website.
Another member of your so-called 'where true brains debate' board left a very sore taste in everyone's mouth quite recently,
and thats something we don't want to revisit in a hurry.

Sorry if we're not the 'political geniuses' you're looking for.  Our common passion is gaming from a Trinidad
and Tobago perspective.  We don't claim to be experts on politics in general, let alone US politics.
Other members may engage you if they feel the need to.

I for one, respectfully decline your offer.

Yeah, your lil friend Grim Reaper passed through here a while back and I had to personally ban his @ss for being an @ss.

Now if you really were referred by him, run back and tell the nice gentleman that one of us lit a flambeau and it fell and allll our mud huts are gone and so are our grass pants/skirts oongga boonngaaa (hard luck dey a lil hutman speak leak through) and that mounting silly extremist rants about AMERICAN politics on a TRINIDADIAN GAMING forum still isnt the best thing to do and we would take pleasure in banning you as well should you adopt said behaviour.

That said, if you come in peace, welcome to the GAMING forum and remember, please, stay off the heavy politics because I GOTS to say, your first post really isnt a step in the right direction.
