If executive presidency would give us the kind of independence even among party members in the legislature that you see in the U.S. I'd welcome it.
But while we're wishing, let's wish for all the extra CO2 to vanish, probably has a better chance of happening

*raises eyebrows at split*

Who el...

*raises finger and decides to stay silent*

Lemme just skip to the end of where anything I would've wanted to say would've led.

F**k, Trinidad -and- Trinidadians, oui.
What can you do to end the hunger?
It's no surprise that many will die with the coming shortage of food
When there is no grain to feed the butchered cows
When there is nothing to feed yourselves...
Then you will see that money can't be eaten.

As we all see that Patrick's National Movement has taken it's move to continue to get rid of those who would dear stand up to his methods/actions.

To fire Dr. Rowley without giving any reason is more than suspect and as I listen to radio with Mr. Rowley talking about why he was asked to leave was because he allegedly objected to a particular hotel being built that he and other members of cabinet were not aware of.

Money really makes the world go around eh and this is one reason why I have found no reason whatsoever to vote....

He's referring to an idea of their system of government, not the U.S. as a whole.

The ORIGINAL idea, cause last I checked they kinda screwed most of the amendments up save the right to bear arms... so I still not sure what he's talking about unless.. its as stated... original idea...

Which U.S. You talking about??? not the same one with Homeland Security legislation being pushed through congress everyday to take away human liberties right? nah... couldn't be...  :cowboy:

You're missing the point I was making. U.S. legislators don't necessarily stand together at all times. Yes they share core beliefs which is why they run with a certain party but they don't all necessarily stand as one. Additionally many members of Congress are elected by the electorate with a separate mindset to how the executive is elected.
Obviously the variations aren't huge but it certainly is much MUCH different from the Westminster system.
How many people actually vote for their representative under that? As opposed to the party they want in power and the person they want as their Prime Minister. If one side says "yes" that entire side says "yea" as one. Not necessarily so in the U.S. Legislators have a bit more latitude and some will openly vote contrary to big pushes within their party. If that happen in a Westminster system what gonna happen? Man gettin fired one time, he on he last hurrah.
So my point is that if a separate election for the legislature and executive would result in more independence from the "party mindset" of those sitting in the House and Senate, then it would be a welcome thing.

ALL RIGHT folks calm down. Lets not all get our collective political panties entangled in our cracks....AGAIN...

Im beginning to trust that manning dude less and less.

Hmmm @ calder hart pulling strings.

Manning is looking more and more like a black version of Panday, moving all underhanded and stealth like.

As umbala would say...Emperor manning must have his way.

God help us.

Question. I follow what you're saying Exar, thank you for they explanation. But, if I could draw reference... communism in and of itself isn't a bad idea, it's just POORLY implemented because the ideology doesn't sit well with human beings. In much the same way, is it completely fair to say that the Westminister system REQUIRES each member to agree with the party objectives or would you say that idealy, even in the Westminister system the intention was that individual opinion and objectives should be collectively and thoroughly reviewed and some positive conclusions arrived at? or simply, idealy, just cause I doh agree with you is NO grounds for you to fire me. Remember it's the idea I am refering to not what is implemented.

Canada-born Calder Hart wears several hats nowadays.

He’s CEO of the Home Mortgage Bank.

He’s chairman of the National Insurance Board (NIB).

He’s chairman of the NIB subsidiary National Insurance Property Development Company Ltd (Nipdec).

He’s also chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of T&T (Udecott).

Given those powerful, dynamic portfolios, that would put Hart in charge of public sector projects worth billions of dollars: the redevelopment of the Port-of-Spain waterfront redevelopment; the Government Campus Plaza on Richmond Street, and at least half a dozen housing projects in Laventille, El Dorado, Valsayn South, Oropune and San Fernando, to name a few.

Rowley could very well pull a ramesh on Manning... start naming names and bringing skeletons out of the PNM closet , we might have to face a general election before the year is out if all comes to worst (or best?)

Yes but unlike the UNC the PNM has no skeletons in their closet. All their screwups are and always has been in plain sight.
