I was just about to buy this before seeing Arc's link, the SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL

But that 4890 looking like the real deal. Nice find arc, nice find indeed.

Only US$50 more and I can stop bottom feeding in the Top 20 Top Rigs list.

Being #19 is a little worrisome. Two overclocking happy whipper snapper techies could bump me off.

I'll give it another week before dropping the $$.

Someone can have my 8800 to play with for cheap once it gets here.

I shall stay my hand until the 275 is readily available @ a decent price. (hopefully month end)

...and this is where the 'tief head' is.  Again, ATI comes up trumps to be the epic winner in the price vs performance batltlefield.

The GTX 275 seems to be a bit faster, but both cards trade blows at the resolutions that they are designed for...1680 x 1050, and 1900 x 1200.
Exactly what about the GTX 275 makes it more attractive than the HD4890?  The 'slightly better' performance?  Well if you think that, then pay your $250 US.
The HD4890 performs similarly, and will cost less, and you know ATI...the price could still drop again.

Come again Notodd1991...better dan dat. :)

This graph says it best.

10% performance > than the 4890.

I'll be in the top 5 with those numbers for some time yet. (@ stock) lol

That's worth the us$20-30 more to steal a few bragging rights without breaking open the bank.

U see, this is where the sheep are separated from the goats. When you look at the overclockability of the 4890, you realise that you can easily surpass the stock speeds of the 275 and even win the overclocking battle between the two, all for less money...

But of course, there are the non-overclocking techies that like to stand on the "safe" side of the river, keeping their parts at stock. PFFFTTTTTTT

If only that were true,

As you can see here, even when the 4890 is overclocked, the 275 @ stock still bests the ATI card.

12471 for Nvidia 275 (stock)

vs

12207 for Ati's 4890 (Overclocked)

Now imagine what would happen if you OC'ed the 275?

Well you cant really compare benchmarks from two different sites, because they use different test setups. If their testbed was identical, then i'd say you were right. Also, vantage by itself is not so good a comparison as physx is enabled in both the benchmark and the hardware...

There setups were similar enough and we know (from our own top rigs chart and those worldwide) that the benchmark is GPU limited moreso than CPU limited.

TweakTown used for their 4890 overclocking Antics:

Processor(s): Intel i7 920 @ 3.8GHz (190MHz x 20)
Motherboard(s): GIGABYTE EX58-UD5 (Supplied by GIGABYTE)
Memory: 3 X 2GB OCZ Technology PC-12800 DDR-3 8-8-8-24 (OCZ3G1600LV6GK)
Drivers: ForceWare 182.06, Catalyst 9.2, Catalyst 8.14.10.0647 (HD 4890)

TomsHardware used this for those Stock Nvidia 275 benchmarks:

Processor:   Intel Core i7 965 Extreme (Bloomfield) 3.2 GHz, 6.4 GT/s, 8 MB L3 Cache, power-saving settings disabled
Motherboard:   Asus P6T (LGA 1366) X58/ICH10, BIOS 0403
Memory:   Corsair Dominator 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24 @ 1,600 MHz
Graphics Driver:    Nvidia GeForce 185.63,   Nvidia GeForce 182.08,    AMD Catalyst 8.592.1 RC1, AMD Catalyst 9.3

I think the word we are looking for here is.....lihixxxxxxxxxxxx

Nah NGW...my own thread shows what happens when you throw a superior CPU/platform into the mix.  Those two systems use the same chipset,
but the presence of the 965 Extreme CPU in the 2nd setup effectively nullifies any direct comparison between the two.  If the same CPU was used, then
we could have compared em fairly.  Also, the 920 was overclocked, which further complicates the comparison.

Bottom line: the GTX 275 is faster, but you'll pay a lil bit more for it.

* patiently waits for TechReport's review/comparison *

If anything, shouldn't the 4890 have had an advantage in the above scenario??

but since you are in agreement with the fact that the Nvidia offering is faster, I'll not split hairs.

It 'should', because of the healthy 920 OC, but the 965 Extreme is superior to the 920 in every way, so I'm still not convinced that that comparison is totally fair.
