He hates the red, loves the green.

nah i was goin with the full amd green ( as opposed to the ati red)  cuz crixx's extreme dislike extends to  both the cpu and gfx  lol

extreme like johnny extreme's extreme adventure, and i view them as the red not green
green is nvidia, been (blue+green) for intel nvidia is a better colour.

and
be aware that batman although human can take down superman eh...

oh and congrats on the upgrade cant wait for yuh i7 system lol...
nonsense
people love to say this crap, despite all the evidence to the contrary, including the scene depicted in my pic and batman quoted as saying, "if clark wanted me dead, all he had to do was come at me hard and fast and there is nothing i could do about it", out of the now dead batman's own mouth.

as  far as ive gotten without error

can run games, folding ,pages ,torrents and everything i can think of without error
except intel burn in, just reboots machine but when it reboots it keeps the same speed. Usually when you do a bad oc, it reboots and tells you OC has failed and resets your speeds so ill see how that goes.

Not necessarily.  You can boot 'stable' into the BIOS and such at a particular frequency, but if you're
getting instability in Windows then you need to tweak your voltages a little.

For that particular mobo/CPU, try researching the particular voltage settings for your northbridge and southbridge,
to achieve stability.  You may have to slightly raise CPU PLL and FSB Termination voltages as well to compensate.

Once you start getting above 3.2 GHz you need to further tweak those voltages to ensure stability.
Its tedious, but its rather satisfying when your overclock passes LinX.  If it can pass 10 tests, then
you can be pretty sure normal apps/games wont have any issues.

Folding @ home, however, may be another matter.

I concur with Hard O/C... voltage seems a bit high for 3.2GHz

Are you planning on going higher than 3.2 there Crixx?

the lasco fan and ac have made up for the lack of case fans and air flow probs
but with that stock cpu cooler
nah not going past 3.2 and not leaving the pc @ 3.2 either. Just good to know i have headroom to go.

Ive been using the auto tune feature so its been moving the vcore and the dram with the fsb increases thats why its a little high, but i did research before hand and 1.48 seems to be an acceptable ceiling on the vcore so iam in safe range.

And yes further research at the time also confirmed what arc said about the CPU PLL and FSB Termination voltages. So ill back down to about 2.66 and wait till i get a good cooler and psu.

Annoyingly though, like i said, that 8800gts just really doesnt take much ocing.
And any adjustment to pcie frequency = freeze
grrr
sigh need to dive into bios

Which 8800GTS is that? the 320mb/768mbm or the remade G92 GTS with 512MB... the 8800GTS that became the 9800GTX that became the 9800GTX+ that became the GTS250 XD?

...which means its a G80 GPU.

Crixx, you cannot OC the GPU by raisiing the PCI-E frequency.  It must stay at 100 Hz.
To OC that particular GPU you need to use Rivatuner to raise the core/mem/shader clocks.

I've done it before, 'way back' in 2007 when I owned a 8800 GTS 320 MB.

No no no crixx, I am not anti-Nvidia per say, after all I do have a G92 8800GT and am eyeing strongly a GTX260... I am simply pointing out a pretty bad play on their behalf.

Forget that auto tune feature. Its garbage. Any software overclock utilities are garbage in my book. Even thsoe "auto" overclocks in the bios are equally useless. Go full manual, you'll get better results. Trust me.

Yeah...so this is one Intel man talking to another Intel man about an Intel product. So when I need expert advice on best AMD practices, i'll be sure to make you the first person I consult o_O

Orrr I get it now. Its part of the catalyst drivers. But I gather there's a utility to perform overclocks of amd cpu's on amd chipsets? Or is it only for video cards?
