Seems every developer and his bonzai plant is working on a Dota Killer.

This latest attempt, called Heroes of NewErth is by none other than S2 Games.

The same people that brought us the genre defying multiplayer masterpiece, Savage. (also featuring a land called New Erth)

This isn't vaporware either. The game is currently in beta. From reports, it is wtfpwnage.

Billed as a straight clone, don't expect much to change from the core gameplay, rather HON is more or less a fresh coat of paint and audio bites. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Though this video didn't leave me overly convinced, I'm keen to take HON out for a spin as it addresses my key issue with the original dota. Namely, its dated appearance. Swear I have mame roms with better graphics.

In case you weren't paying attention, we now have Demigod, League of Legends (LOL) and Heroes of NewErth (HON) vying for the throne long ruled by Defense of the Ancients (DOTA)

OK, so I've gotten in on the beta and this game kicks ass!!

It is dota 2.0. Polished and refined to a diamond like quality.

I think S2 has a winner on their hands.

Played a game with Tempest (an enigma clone). All his moves in tact just graphically enhanced. They even had the necromicon, now called the Puzzle Box. I prefer the old name, but no matter.

Similar creeps, denying, tower denying. Almost a perfect replica of the maps and bush creep locations, river, the works.

Did I mention the game kicks ass?

Not to be missed if you're a dota fan (or a fan of multiplayer gaming on the whole)

Jump on facebook and join the official group with the swiftness. When they hit 10000 fans they gonna give out beta keys, otherwise you need to find someone with invites.

Found the nevermore clone, SoulEater. I love what they've done with the place.

I see the facebook group blew past 10,000 fans yesterday (up to 12,000 last I checked).

Should see a ton of people joining the beta as a result. Won't be disappointed.

note, the instructions for the beta key is under "updates" and not your regular inbox

Also, the link is only valid for 36 hours. Move fast!

Talk about a DOTA facelift...too bad the beta doesn't have LAN support, otherwise this woulda run for tonight's LAN for sure!

HON will definitely be my new lan party game once it launches. I played with the Luna clone and it is excellent. Its still need some tweaking (well at least if they want to keep her similar to her DOTA character) , she seems to be a bit more powerful than her dota counterpart.

Combining items is so much easier, can be items from within the recipe.

Stat tracking to check a player, win, loss, quit, etc percentage.

This is exactly what I wanted for DOTA a long while now.

Well it shows a person quit percentage so if someone has a high quit percentage u can not allow them to join plus it has a noob filter to only allow high level ppl to join

Yeah, and since you'll be going legit with this game, the leaver percentage would be much less. Persistent accounts online tends to sharply reduce the leave-erage.

I have a couple myself.

daemon x says we supposedly get more keys everytime we go up a level. Didn't test that theory yet though.

I wasn't a fan of dota but I must admit the eye candy in this game really sells it to me. Is this one gonna be free ?

lol @ free. That would be a serious gift to the gaming fraternity. All that work for gratis.

if judging from s2's past, I'd expect one of two options:

Either:

1) US$20 to buy the game

or

2) Free to play, US$20 to get premium content (items, persistent leveling, etc...)

No matter which way they go, they'll get my money. (just as they did with savage)
