I'm liking how that ASUS is all smoove and milky in the reviews. I'm looking to remplace my WRT54G Linsyseth routereth after witnessing pops do an unplanned test drop to hard concrete from about 5ft....

I was shocked it didn't explode or burst into pieces.....still works mind you.

With that said if I do get this ASUS Awesome has, I'll have to get a Wireless N usb adapter for my desktop to replace the Wireless G one I'm currently using, any suggestions on a GOOD Wireless N USB adapter that I can add to cart?

Well I do not actually have it yet (supposed to get it tomorrow or Friday) but id say this one is a pretty safe bet based on the reviews, and look, there's Windows 7 support.

"Only" 150Mbps but it cant be beat for the price.

I expect no problems.

Yeah was eyeballing that one as the final choice, was looking for something that had 300Mbps like THIS ONE but those seem to not have a good ratio in terms of ratings.....well I'll see how this the pair shape up. May order the two end of the moth or early next month.

Let me know how that router goes when you get it so I can know if to change my mind lol

Dude, I already have the router. It bess.

As for the wireless, 150 is PLENTY, trust me.

I tested the Intel integrated n wireless card in my work laptop (which connected at the full 300Mbps) as opposed to a belkin wireless adapter on the same machine connected at 150Mbps. I actually got 1 Megabyte/s MORE on the 150Mbps connection in windows 7 during a sustained 8gig file transfer. I dont know how, but that is what happened.

Long story short, 150 is PLENTY.

So I finally got the last missing piece to make my entire home network gigabit, a dlink pci gigabit card for my Server 2003 media machine. Transfer rates have now DOUBLED, now at 20mb/s according to windows 7.

Red, I also got the medialink adapter, installed very painlessly, as expected connects at max 150Mbps but transfer rates are hovering at 8Mbps, almost equaling my previous wired performance. Your Asus adapter looks good too, though im inclined to believe that they would both transfer at similar speeds..but hey im wayyy too happy with this one to care.

Needleess to say, im in connectivity heaven.Dont know how I survived all this time without it, never wanna go back.

All praise the Asus, Dlink, Medialink gods in the order of your choosing.

How much should I set it to? How much should I be getting? I need answers dammit lol.

Holy Schmoly Slaming, you are absolutely right! I ran a transfer from the server's OS drive, a 7200rpm drive and transfer rates went to 29MBps.

The 'problem' is that the 20MBps is transfer from the USB connected drives. Bottleneck immc.

Then I ran a transfer from my desktop's velociraptor and now im getting upwards of 55Mbps. Im sure it will be faster if the destination drive was faster because an 8gig transfer started out at about 70Mbps. GG.

Although the pci bus is old, it supposed to have a transfer rate of about 120MB/s which is a pretty good ceiling. (server using pci gigabit card)

Small ting. The slow usb bus is a small price to pay in exchange for huge amounts of cheap storage.

btw I didnt touch mtu size. I didnt even find the setting.

yea @ usb...

cheap and easy... same thing over hear.. but 20 is good for the purposes of the drive.

Tested it with about 6 streams of HD movies concurrently without problems.

We get upwards of 90mbps directly from the server drive doh, without editing any settings

the mtu settings usually is in the Lan NIC>>Properties>>Configure>>Advanced Tab>>Jumbo Frames. On freenas I get about 45MB but it should be faster with windows according to the reports i have seen, where persons were getting 80-90MBS which is ridiculous speed, it must be a raid thing cause even my drive can't sustain those speeds at burst.
