Christmas 2009: Gift Guide for the Gamer
« on: November 05, 2009, 08:24:31 PM »
It's that time of year again.....when wallets scream and credit cards seek shelter.

The season of Pastelle and Parang, Ham and Ponche de Creme

But most importantly.....God.

and not so importantly (but the point of this thread) GIFTS!!

Just read this article recommending 5 games from Steam as good gifts for the casual gamer in the family:

http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/11/04/holiday-gift-guide-five-awesome-steam-games-that-make-great-gifts/

Not a bad start, being a gaming forum and all. Here goes:

Machinarium

Braid

World of Goo

Plant vs Zombies (PopCap's take on Tower Defense for those Wc3 mod mongers amongst us, you can't make this stuff up)

Trine (Spoken about on these forums before, awesome graphics in this one. Like a Lost Vikings remake with tons of love)

They're all sub US$20.00 and definitely represent a good deal for the novices on your family tree.

Now for the hard core.

We can safely place the following bets as early stocking stuffers for the season.

Borderlands

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 2 (This is what epic win looks like in computer game form_

Dragon Age: Origins (Baldur's Gate's spiritual successor)

Turtle Beach Earforce HPA2PC Headphone (for some personal 5.1 Surround sound in your life)
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-TBS2114-Earforce-Headphone/dp/B001BS4YAM

Chime in with your own recommendations to add to the gift guide.

What's going to be under your tree? Granted Santa gets the letter and you've been nice.
