as the topic asks, what do you all think is the best cpu for the 4830. On my pc i have a x3 720be with my 4830 and my friend wants to buy the same cpu for his 4830.

but knowing how rare the x3 720 is nowadays, i suggested either a x3 440 or x2 550be which should give similar results to my x3 720 since I guessing the 4830 will be the limiter for these cpus. am I wrong?

anyone with experience care to comment?

Without looking at any reviews, id say the 4830 will do well on any of those triple core cpu's as long as its 2.4ghz or higher. You may even be able to get away with a higher clocked dual core (3ghz or higher). Anything less the card could become bottlenecked.

Considering you can get a Quad core Athon II for 100USD, there's not reason to NOT go quad at least.

my padna wants phenom because of the L3 cache, but i go by toms cpu heirachy chart http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu,2599-7.html and i wont mind buying an x3 440 or x4 630. is the phenom so important? at least for this mid range video card.

I remember reading a CPU comparison where it showed that the L3 cache actually made a difference in performance at higher resolutions.  The CPUs with less cache actually lagged behind the others by a significant amount.

I'll try to find the article for reference.

EDIT: found it:)  ...although it seems to contradict what I stated above.
