This is very exciting indeed.
Nintendo pushing consoles forward with more power will be very interesting.

An early headstart into the next-gen would mean that Sony and Microsoft will need to respond within 2 years so as to not lose major ground when the new Wii launches.

June & E3...Best month of the year

I'm curious to see what Nintendo will come with. Is it just additional horsepower or are they come with revolutionary idea again.

@ Eroo, most likely more horsepower with 1080p HD. Same old Nintendo, same familiar Mario games, Metroid games, Zelda games but in higher resolution. Now if they can do 3D with that, then we talking...

My friends were saying that the Nintendo would finally get games that we've been enjoying..the multiplatform stuff like Crysis 2 and Battlefield etc.
Nintendo will no doubt have a strong first party line-up, but as for third party, many ports from "last-gen".

Dont get your hopes up guys. As the official Wii loving bastard on this forum i can tell you that Nintendo will not bring a new system this year!

WHY!?

1.Nintendo is already kicking everyones ASS in sales and the closest competitor, Microsoft is still millions of units behind.

2.The 3DS has just launched and Nintendo need not take attention from it with a new home system.

3.Hype,what do we really have to look foward to at E3 this year? NOTHING NOT A THING! Last year was the best E3 in a long time and it will be a long time before we get one like that again.We had the 3DS,KINECT & MOVE,and that full line up of games from Nintendo from Kerby to Golden eye. All we have this year is the NGP what else?NOTHING.All them games that coming out for the PS3 Infamous 2, the last guardian, Uncharted 3.What about 360? What they have Gears of war? And NINTENDO we gonna see ZELDA again? All these things we see already!We may get some new things but really when it comes to excitment theres nothing!So what will bring excitement that will make people really want to go? A new system.And not just any system,a NINTENDO system.Lets face it a new playstation wont do it the NGP wont do it,and you know microsoft not bringing nothing new! So what will the people in charge of E3 do to make the advertisers want to spend money and G4 broadcast? A new NINTENDO! So its all BULLSHIT!!!

More news on the Wii 2 (page is in french so you can use google translate to read it yourself if you missed french class in secondary school)

My take aways:

Wii 2 code name is Project Cafe (burr??)

Wii 2 will use hardware very similar to the xbox 360 (3 IBM cores, R700 graphics, 512mb ram at least. That should give them 1080p capability for typical Nintendo first party games as well as making it dog easy for developers to port xbox 360 titles to the Wii without much effort at all and zero loss in fidelity.)

The console will come with an Ipad/AMX like touch screen controller. (Not sure how I feel about that....but given the rage over tablets, nintendo may find some clever way to implement this tech for a game console)

The Wii 2 doesn't require power or batteries, it will run on magic. (lol, just playing....saw it as a comment on the article and thought it hilarious)

I was thinking a merger of handheld and console games.

Picture this:
Purchasing a Wii 2 where the controller doubles as a portable game system.
Wii 2 games will ship with 2 copies of the game, the HD version for the home console and a portable version that is stored on the controller and can be taken anywhere. The portable version would unlock and sync with the full game on the console etc.

Obviously the argument is that Nintendo just launched the 3DS. There's also the possibility that the 3DS will be compatible with the portable versions of the Wii 2 games and also double as a controller.

Anyhow, just speculating here.
