Still an OK game though.

What I'm seeing here does NOT inspire confidence...

...at ALL.

I had high hopes for this one.  I really did.
Somehow I feel it might end up being struck off the 'must-get' 2013 list.

I await the reaming by critics.....

...and WTF is up with them textures?

That looks like a game from 2006...even though it's been in development since 2008.

My lord...if is ONE game that needed the Source, Frostbite, or CryEngine treatment...it's this one.

You know what its like to work with fucking FOX as a licensor. Dont even ask :( They about as stupid as their news stories.

Still images will and ALWAYS will be photoshoped. "First screens of...." means the game isnt even ready to show.....so photoshop for it. By now I think we've played enough games to not be influenced by a CGI trailer (eg. that Elder Scrolls Online) with ZERO gameplay, or still images....at least I hope so.

But playing devils advocate, games are meant for playing, movies are meant for looking.

Livestream of gameplay has just started:  http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/28/ign-live-presents-aliens-colonial-marines?utm_campaign=twposts&utm_source=twitter

(Thanks Berzerk)

In case you missed it, the link now has the archived stream, so you can watch the entire 2-hour presentation which includes SP gameplay from Mission 1 and 3,
and some MP gameplay from the TDM and Escape modes.

You can watch it here as well if the above link givin trouble: http://www.twitch.tv/ignlive/b/363429085

I will admit, that the game looks a LOT better than the trailer, which is a plus, and Gearbox really nailed the dark, spooky, claustrophobic nature of the franchise.
The lighting/shadowing is spot on, and the sound effects that you know and love are present and accounted for.  There are nice little touches here and their that
sharp-eyed, hardcore fans of the franchise will notice while playing the SP.

My only problem with the game now is that this has been all done before...in 2010's Alien vs Predator, which looked better too thanks to DX11's tessellation goodness.
There's also the added cool factor of playing as a Xenomorph and a Predator in that game also, which this one lacks (but that's a nitpick, and not fair).

The MP looked fun enough.  'Escape' mode plays a LOT like Left 4 Dead, which has the Marines trying to get from point A to point B trying to escape Xenomorphs
who have to try and kill them out before they get to that point B.  The Xenos can respawn infinitely, but the Marines, if brought down, can be revived once they don't bleed out,
and cannot respawn.  For the Xenos to win in this mode, you really have to work as a team, and try to swarm the Marines en masse.  Going in solo won't work, as the Marine
weapons and sentry-turrets will cut you into acid-spewing chunks every time.  The Xenos are FAST, and can cling to ANY surface...including walls and ceilings.
What is nice is that the Xenos' viewpoint maintains a 3rd-person perspective, so you won't be disoriented when you transition from floors to walls to ceilings.  The Xeno movement,
however, I noticed is kinda clunky.  Most times players are getting killed because they missed a jump and found themselves in an awkward position, and just got cut down by pulse-rifle fire.

There's a lot to like here, but it's been done before.  I like it, but I want to love it, which will bring my terrified little wallet out of hiding.  :laughing7:

Yep, Its VERY hard to get it right. FPS's on the whole are VERY hard to make (I made that god awful Battleship game too, I know how NOT to make an FPS.....lol!) The assumption that aliens have greedy search AI design is the first problem. The second being licensing issues (FOX is a god......f*cking....... AWFUL licensor to work with). Third, that was Borderlands B-Team ( no WAY they will be making Borderlands 2 and this at the same time with one team).

Not seeing reviews at midnight was a sign. I think their budget for the game too was VERY low and the "just put it in a box" talk came up, specifically when the game was pushed back a year (that I gua-ron-tee was licensor issues)

Good news is based on sales this will go on Steam sale cheap. fyi DMC has also plummeted in sales, expect that to be on sale soon.

*UPDATE*

User reviews (not the Metacritic ones that are paid for - both positive and negative) are saying its a co-op designed game, not a single player game (as most reviewers are saying).  The co-op experience is more fun.

I am seeing this with Dead Space 3. Been playing a bit more of the co-op, and the game is WAY better. The horror element is found more in Carver's gameplay than in Clarke's.

Yeah,  look at my 'I told you so face'  - - - - > :(

I think Aliens vs Predator is a MUCH better representation of the mythos than this game, in every way possible, but no one bought it.
This should have been made as one big, sweet dollop of DLC to that game.

We didn't need 'another' Aliens game, and this production is proof of that.

...and yes, I've played it.  :)

No, I didn't buy it.  You shouldn't either.  Buy Aliens vs Predator instead.
