They 'kinda' used to do the same thing with Battlefield 2142.

In-game, you would see billboards with actual ads on them.
I'm not sure if there were any underlying mechanics in that game as complex as Origin,
but I did remember some outlets commenting (complaining?) about it.

...but this Origin boy...waaayyyy.

I don't know what to say again about this nah.  It's like a big 'u mad bro?' to PC gamers.  :laughing7:

'Don't like it?  Well don't install our $#!t.'

...is basically what that Origin EULA says, but the kicker is that you need it to be able to play
EA's top tier games...like Battlefield 3 and now Crysis 2.

As I said before...I can't knock their hustle eh, but damn sonn.

lol! I assume none of you read an EULA/Privacy Policy within the last what, maybe 8 years. It's more or less the same for any application these days. Windows, Steam, Apple, even your favorite web browser collects information on you.

I think people are looking for all kinds of lame excuses for avoiding Origin...

Agreed. I think this has been the same for years as well.

Not a fan of Origin mainly because I love STEAM and don't want to have two digital libraries for my games.

However, Mass Effect and Battlefield are two of the greatest games to ever grace my LCD screen.

Despite any ill will towards Origin, they are assured my money. :(

I think the difference with the Eula is that in the past the information collecting was specified for the app that you installing... So for instance msn would collect usage data about MSN etc.. Origin is however now collecting data on everything you do with your PC...

The only way to be sure is to pull up another eula, say steam?

After watching southpark's episode on apple's EULA I must admit I tried to read one of those things but seriously the amt of programs you installed that have those things, did you read every last one??? Do we know what all the others claimed to have access to etc??

No I don't like what EA has in terms of Origin but to be honest, as far as I see it every program you install is sniffing around your pc.......

I'll try to skim through them a bit more from now on but I aint have nothing on my pc to hide.

And whoever has the time to read through Steam's EULA can give us a heads up on anything fishy please.

None of us and even all of us can't change this policy. I say, to safeguard yourself from EA and any other company, keep your most private data offline.

If they see any pirated software in my system, I plead the 5th in advance.

Not sure if closing off Origin when not playing will help any but one thing is for certain. NOTHING is getting between me and my Battlefield, and I do mean nothing.

60 more daysss, 8.5 weeks left for BF3!!!!!!

The only way to be sure is to pull up another eula, say steam?

Here is a little excerpt from Steam:
Quote
Collection and Use of Information
By using Valve's online sites and products, users agree that Valve may collect aggregate information, individual information, and personally identifiable information, as defined below. Valve may share aggregate information and individual information with other parties. Valve shall not share personally identifiable information with other parties, except as described in the policy below.

"Aggregate information" is information that describes the habits, usage patterns, and demographics of users as a group but does not describe or reveal the identity of any particular user.

"Individual information" is information about a user that is presented in a form distinguishable from information relating to other users but not in a form that personally identifies any user or enables the recipient to communicate directly with any user unless agreed to by the user in advance of such communication. This information may be used to improve Valve's products and online sites, for internal marketing studies, or simply to collect demographic information about Valve's users.

Maybe it's not as intrusive as Origin but you never really know, seeing that Steam actually keeps track of  apps installed on your PC as well as your hardware configuration.
Basically what you see above is more or less what you'll find in most EULA's these days, even good old Firefox does it.

As i've said before NONE of these companies is ANY better than the other. All of them do things that we don't immediately realize and ALL have their quirks FULL STOP. Capn can rant about how bad IW is or arc could wyatt could argue how bad Origin is, same ish different name.
