Bmobile WIFI Project/4G upgrade...
« on: March 20, 2012, 06:27:53 PM »
I was just apprised of this via G+

http://www.bmobile.co.tt/blink-bmobile-launches-wifi-project/

It's a 'welcome' gesture, but it's not good enough.

Come on TSTT...you sell 3g/4g capable devices. What's stopping you from deploying a proper 3g/4g framework
instead of these god-awful 'My-Fi' devices?

It's a small step in the right direction, but can we have our 3g on our smart devices plixx...?

As long as they have no other company to threaten their customer pool, they will take their dead time before we all get 3g/4g on our phones.

interesting article arc

+1

Isn't this similar to the flow F-Spot roll out?

Also, I noted in the article that bmobile said they saw explosive growth in smart phone sales for android, ios and bb. No mention of windows phone at all.

This paragraph sums up the tour de force that is the mobile market. Imagine, 25 billions apps on the apple store. WT-Actual-F!

Quote
The smartphone and tablet are the new market places of choice that have seen buyers and sellers meeting one-on-one but concluding hundreds of millions of dollars in trade. In the USA, according to research by Comscore in ‘U.S. Digital Future in Focus 2012′ it is reported that in December 2011, 28.5 million mobile users in America accessed online retail content on their mobile devices. This figure is a whopping 87 percent increase over figures for December 2010.
On March 5, 2012, APPLE announced that its App Store delivered its 25 billionth app download to the users of the more than 315 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices worldwide. The 25 billionth app was downloaded by Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China.

Digicel HSPA+ is due any day now. Only reason it hasn't already launched is likely because they're having technical problems with integration (my educated assumption). bMobile just announced their network expansion yesterday.
But for the record I've literally seen it running, Digicel technical staff have been testing it on their phones since Christmas. I'd quote the speedtest but that was hardly commercial launch ready and running.

WiFi is pretty much here to stay in high traffic areas. This is hardly a Trini duct-tape fix, wifi roll outs are worldwide. It's very easy for users to clog high speed networks with streaming video etc so wifi is a essentially used as a way to offload traffic from the mobile network. AT&T got a nasty surprise when they allowed too many iphone users unlimited data. Between wifi, data quotas and bandwidth throttling for data hogs, it's pretty much the only way high speed mobile networks are prevented from grinding to a halt.

Interesting that you would mention Digicel's 4g plans.

I spotted this yesterday...
