No sense down here, not compatible with our frequency band. Only flag shop models or at least Nokia 820/822. I see Digicel selling Nokia 610 but again why win7.5... Total lack of local presence imho

It will More than likely occupy the same 1900 mhz or at best 2100. Its not the actual freq that's important vs the band size. Why I think this you ask? Because many of the cheap as beer handsets they are undoubtedly flooding the market with in preparation for their '4G' are the same as Digicel and there's always that matter of TATT whom I'll withhold my comments on. But a simple comparison, the galaxy ace which both Digicel and bmobile sell work on the 1900 & 2100 but the ace 2 (bmobile) is 2100. The S2 and so on support both as well.

Catch is I want a phone that could work on both carriers and since only the 820 and higher support both frequencies I'm just sol.

Serious question....where is the Windows Phone OS on this chart?

Don't tell me its lumped into "other"?

Asked this in the Windows 8 thread and didn't get a response....hoping it can be addressed here.

Android and IOS seem to be totally dominating the scene with Google's offering trending upwards.

Answer:

November 1, 2012 | By Surur
Windows Phone had 2% market share in Q3 2012, still the fastest growing mobile OS

The IDC have released their shipment numbers for Q3 2012, and found that only 3.6 million Windows Phones were shipped in Q3 2012.  This number is less than the 3.7 million which Nokia said they shipped, making it somewhat suspect. If we accept it however it still gives Windows Phone only 2% market share in the last quarter.  While this still leaves Windows Phone in 5th position, with Android and iOS it is the only growing mobile OS, with Blackberry, Symbian, Linux and ”Other” (presumably including Bada, Meego etc) all falling in market share. It is also the fastest growing OS, gaining 140% compared to the last year.

With the launch of a new generation of Windows Phone handsets this quarter, we expect a good rebound in these numbers, but obviously still from a very low base.

source

The one i posted is limited to Mobile Phones only, lumping tablets into the pie, you mite as well lump Laptops into it as well, since MS has virtually 0 tablet marketshare seeing that they only now making a serious push in the tablet space. Include laptops in those figures and the numbers will be dramatically imba in MS favor.

Edit:

It's amazing how much android devices shipped doh. But apple still in the game strong, because even doh they ship less units, they make more money off of those fewer numbers. Hence being currently the richest company in the world.

hmm, unfortunately, I feel Windows maybe stealing that market share from Blackberry and Symbian.

Their growth rate maybe bad news for RIM especially. Since MS has such a stranglehold on the enterprise.....if WP becomes a viable alternative to BlackBerry, is GG No Re for the Canadian hopefuls.

OS 10 won't be enough to stem that dark tide.

Judging from the number of Androids sold, Microsoft isn't going to make a dent into their armor for years to come.

Unless Google fumbles the ball or something. Right now, its properly described as a runaway train.

Apple maybe making more $$ per unit...but that will become irrelevant when Android devices outnumber them 1-100:1

Unfortunately....some work still needs to be done...as the platform isn't rock solid. My android tablet and phone crashes in various exotic ways. It is exceedingly rare for our IOS devices to crash. Apple is still more stable at the moment.

By Android 5, that should be resolved though....it goes with the territory of supporting such diverse hardware platforms. Whereas apple has their hardware locked in place.

cest la vie.

Good points, but also keep in mind, the return rate for android devices are extremely high, and those return rates are *NOT* removed from the marketshare calculations. You said MS go only make a dent if google fumbles, but i'd argue that they already fumble, since d start, by d same claims u made (frequent crashes and a generally bad experience on android platforms for the average user.) Just like ios, windows phone is rock solid, and dont crash. D latest "what smartphone are you going to buy" survey on The Verge reports a toss up between Nokia 920 and GS3, third place was the Iphone 5. Nokia 920 garnering alot of attraction. And with the right push, i'd see users gravitate alot faster than normal, given the fact that android already experience alot of problems not found on IOS. The IOS fanbase would be a harder cookie to crack, but i think MS has a reasonable chance to eat some of google marketshare as well.

And we all know rim is done for, and both rim and symbian marketshare being absorbed by Microsoft. And WP8 re-introduce enterprise features that were missing from wp7, making it legally possible for Corporate to adopt the platform when they once couldn't in most cases.

In the end we'll see how it goes, but with various CEO's of companies asking me if i'm getting a Surface and Nokia, it seems MS hadda be doing something right, because these is men who usually clueless about technology. We'll see how it goes. ALl i know is, Nokia 920 for me, GG, No Re with that device.

the Same was said about Android in 2008 up to the end of 2010 it was utter crap.... it only came into its own since V 2.2 somewhere in the  2010

and a BIG part of that is it openness and ease of (legit) development which MS failed at in Windows Mobile but they have been making up for that with WP7

and the respective SDK's but I understand what your saying but MS isn't really going after android that much their focus is apple... for some reason....$$$$$$$$

but IMO they dropped the ball somewhere along the line because WinMo had all the features android has now years before but they lagged on distribution and pricing

and now you see the result where they were king of the hill they now have to play catch up.....with a moving train .... so we will see

Indeed, android is basically a better version of windows mobile 6.5, but MS had no choice but to restart. They get cetch with the pants down and they bamsee still burning. But i give them credit for the steps they take in trying to get back to where they once were.

But we see this all the time, rise and fall of platforms. When apple rise to the throne, no-one thought they would loose it, in no short order android deal with them. I think the 920, 8x, and WP8 has the potential to deliver a busy cobo swet, followed by ah cow swet come next year when the 940 and WP9 hit d scene.

Having an NT core gives WP8 alot of advantages and potential that is not realized yet. As great as the changes and features the first party stuff from MS is. With a NT kernel , further changes, applications and advancement is alot easier. The OS can basically scale as well as Windows 8 on the desktop. Is just to tap into that potential now. And hopefully the platform wouldnt need a major reboot again for a while, just evolution and maximizing the NT core. And having Nokia in yuh back pocket is the best thing happen to windows phone oui. Since nokia join d fight, MS start seeing d light at the end of d tunnel, they juss running full bore towards it now :)

$99 seems pretty standard to me, of course you ARE tied into a 2 year contract with the carrier and other potential miscellaneous costs... then there is the monthly recurring which could be high depending... I don't buy that hype anymore. Not saying its not a decent deal, but it's nothing special imho.

What will really be of interest is the no-contract prices... that's what I am REALLY waiting on

99$ is standard and 300$ for d iphone 5? :S

300$ is standard for flagship devices on contract. 99$ on contract with a free wireless charger (retailing for abou 60 US) is gunta price. When compared to the competition contract pricing.

Nobody in d states does get phones unlocked if they can get d phone they want on contract, because they have to pay for they plan regardless. For AT&T customers, that is ah rel steel!

For me and you, yea, unlocked pricing for d win, so that's what i waiting to see now, but at&t come extremely aggressive with that pricing they have they.

D Galaxy Note 2 is also 300$ on contract....
Mostly all flagship smartphones are 300+ on contract, that's just the way it is, which is why d 920 price wowing me so. If that translates to a lower unlocked price, then gg.

And year d 820 looks good, but 920 is where it's at. i have to get one of them thing before or on Christmas oui.

indeed... but off-contract prices usually scale with contract prices... thing is doh... at that price i'm seeing it will have a shortage of stock.. which means off-contract prices might sky-rocket for awhile...

good thing i wasnt planning until upgrading till next year lol
