The issue is marketing.

this is an old article yes, people don't know what a Wii U is

Other BIG problem. The average person in a bar, on the street knows what a wii is. But they DO NOT know the Wii U.

You have a REALLY big problem when the casual population doesn't know what it is!

This was taken place in Minneapolis (I lived in minneapolis for over a year), been to midnight Wii U launches, Halo 4 launches and BLOPS 2 launches all in Minneapolis. The gamer population is very healthy but this is not about the gamers only. The Wii attracted the non-gamer market, that's its stigma. Sales for Wii would not be where they are if Nintendo had not tapped the "untapped" market for gaming.

Not to say the Wii U is bad (preorder Monster Hunter and ready to rock ), its a direct comparison of how Wii was launched and Wii U was launched. It's not the system, but how it was marketed. The problem is the PR and awareness of the product. Living in the US (now Canada) and moving to different states in that time, and have been traveling around for Activision launch titles at conventions for the past year (E3, GDC, Gamestop Managers event, PAX, Comic Con). The awareness of Wii U is very low.

Quarterly sales is the only thing that matters. And the only thing that keeps any company in business. Will wait till the end of Q2 to see how Nintendo is doing (after E3)

It sucks that the the WiiU won't be getting the next gen engines as well... imo this console can't be grouped in the "next gen" lineup the same way the next ps4/xbox will. more like a ".5" kinda thing

I think all the Wii U needs is a killer app. The Wii's killer app, regardless of what people thought, was Wii Sports. It's also the biggest selling game EVER, because it was bundled with the Wii console. Wii U doesn't have one as yet.

Again here's hoping for the E3 lineup, I honestly couldn't give a shit about Pikmin 3, regardless of Nintendo fans wanting it. Nintendo doesn't need to please its fans, it needs to bring more people onboard.

And its not that the wii u cant run the engine they just wont support the wii u!
