Got a Wii U Today
« on: November 20, 2012, 07:17:53 PM »
So,

I've been a developer for the launch of Wii U. Nintendo has done a great job. They really pulled things together at the end and the console is promising. The Nintendo fan should be quite happy.

I like what is done with Miiverse. A quick and easy way to look at posts, forums, ideas and thoughts on games. The Eshop, although it has a few great games on demand, is growing nicely. I haven't dug through all of it yet.

Its very Nintendo'y. All the little kids asking about how to pass level 3, is this game good, I wish I had X game. I notice the forum mods HARD at work, deleting, cracking down offensive content (you can draw....ANYTHING you want...so yeah, they have their work cut out for them) They even post up the persons ID and tag to let people know "This guy is an @sshole, steer clear if you dont want to be trolled"

Games. I picked up Mario Wii U, Nintendoland came with my 32GB and I got Prime for free, since i made the damn game.

I'll leave Prime since I've spoken enough about it.

Mario WiiU is Mario, and Mario in HD. the more I play the more I am itching for a Mario Galaxy (or whatever they want to call it next, Mario Universe...Miiverse?...who knows) in HD. FINALLY HD!

Have not touched Nitnendoland yet, will get to it soon.

Yes, there is a HUUUUUGEEEEE firmware update, which took about 20 mins (its about 4GB), followed by another update on Mario Wii U. After this was done all works well.

As for the console itself. it looks great, but the UI is .....slow. Slow to load, slow to switch, slow to open apps. For certain this is going to change, optimized more and will end up being more streamlined. Nothing to worry about.

As for launch. I think Nintendo has a SOLID launch lineup, its good for fans looking for something new and Definitely something for Nintendo fans, who have been living in 2004 for the past 8 years. Welcome to HD, its totally worth it.

if possible i dont want to buy any discs.

quoted for emphasis.

I want the nextgen consoles to be defined by a discless SSD like experience. Games loading blazingly fast.

Nintendo's meager 32gb has me a little worried though.

That speaks to a future full of discs on the Nintendo bandwagon.

Microsoft and Sony were going in the right direction with the 160Gb and 250GB consoles.

I know SSDs aren't exactly cheap...but maybe by nextgen (2013-2014) they will be affordable enough to make a 128gb / 256gb offering possible.

That way you can keep most of your library on drive, ready to play and leave the rest in the cloud.

Yea wyatt, 32gb is meger, which is why u can expand with SDHD by another 64.
And you can also use an external usb drive (which is what i plan to do, ah lil 1tb fast seagate 2.5" laptop drive in an enclosure, just sittin ontop d console, gg).

Should have good enough read speeds from that. I'm hoping i could cycle my most played games from d USB to d internal storage for faster loads.

Shiv is d man who go have to test all that for us until we get the unit weself.

So shiv is on u. Bless us with some digital download and hd expansion confirmations they.

The Wii U eShop Launch Guide: In Progress

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/20/the-wii-u-eshop-launch-guide-in-progress

"That’s another new feature unique to Wii U – full retail titles are available to buy in digital form right from Day 1. The 3DS has a few on offer, as Nintendo kicked off that practice on the portable with New Super Mario Bros. 2 back in August, but Wii U’s commitment to offering digital options from Day 1 makes a definitive statement about the direction Nintendo’s now heading."

BOOM!
