lol, well that is what I'm studying. Is PCI even relevant?

I could very well do without it in my next mobo.

I still use one when I need to use another NIC or another sound-card...which reminds me... I need to get a spare PCI-E NIC.

Would you believe it was the only way I was able to track down an issue with the Frostbite game engine and it's apparent dislike of on-board Realtek chipsets?
Using the on-board would cause Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 to freeze or crash, with looping sound, which would only go away with a reboot.

Having a Creative PCI sound-card and the PCI slot was (and still is) a god-send.
More choice is always good.

I think mobo makers should still fit in at least one on their mainstream boards, but leave em out on the enthusiast ones, as those buyers tend to want to use the latest and greatest anyway.

A PCI Wireless NIC? Interesting.

I have a couple of those in USB. A bit odd to use a PCI. Any particular reason?

@ Arc, was a time when I wouldn't dare have a PC with a sound blaster card installed.

Now its just a relic. Let go of my last (Sound Blaster X Fi Gamer PCI card) in the last garage sale.

Tested it against the onboard sound and couldn't tell the difference.

TW... I was pulling out my hair trying to find a solution to that problem...oh, and added to that issue...it only occurred when I used a Nvidia card. So Nvidia + Realtek + Frostbite = crash/freeze/BSOD.

Not having that PCI slot woulda mean having to jump-out about 75-100 usd for a decent PCI-E sound-card at the time.
Of course, I use an Asus Xonar DX now.

...oh, and I now remember, I still use a PCI USB expansion card too yes, because of it's internal connector that I use for various adapters that I don't want poking out the back.

TV capture card. The cable is from an independent provider. Not coded, making my gaming rig a total entertainment centre!

Strangest thing is a 56k modem on PCIe. Useful for faxing!

Got an Asus Xonar on PCIe too.

nope no pci...

my soundcard on pci-e...

i definitely notice the difference between my on board and my x-fi card...

1. no optical input...
2. my z5500's could definitely tell the difference...

i will ditch my soundcard when i have something better doing the processing.. like messiaah setup
