looks like the two 12v burnt out themselves.
mobo still working (surprisingly)
max load pulled from the wall was 670w
being it's an 80plus psu that should work out to 536w of the 750w total
so i have no idea what caused it's death.

so i'm gonna rma this thing and sell the replacement
what psu to get now?

Something like this happened to Arcmanov when he had his LGA 1366 system.

Board was still working good since i subsequently bought it and sold it to someone and it still kicking.

Good power supplies supposed to have overcurrent/overvoltage protection to prevent incidents like this.

It's possible your psu's protection circuits just failed and caused this.

So the simplest solution would be to replace the power supply. I'd suggest something with a little more headroom like an 850w minimum though.

Yikes...don't remind me.

Yep.  Same ones.  Pins 22 and 23...and that was with a Cooler Master 850W PSU too eh.
That's what happens when your GPUs pull too much current through those pins.
If those clocks on your GPUs aren't stock, then there's your issue.  You need to dial back the voltage if you over-volted them.

The board will still work.  It just shut itself off when some fail-safe threshold was exceeded.  Unfortunately, it wouldn't have been fast enough to prevent a little toasting.

You're definitely gonna need a beefier PSU.

I say go all out and get one them Corsair 1000W PSUs.  That way, you won't have to buy another one in a while.
The Cooler Master 1000W I replaced that 850W with since then has performed admirably.

Check The Wizz, and Circuit Zone.  They usually have some high-end PSUs in stock.
If not, check Euphoric Technology.  Lemme warn you though...their prices kinda hot.

My corsair TX 750 died similarly on me some years back. Same story, gaming happily then poof. Didnt cause any burn on the board thankfully.

Highly highly recommend the AX1200i. Such a purchase pretty much guarantees no need to change for a 5-7 years.

Personally, its my next move when/if my current HX850 kicks the bucket.

Glad to hear ur board still working after thankfully. U may not have been that lucky had it been another brand.

Captain Awesome can recommend that PSU because he's made of money.  :laughing7:

The rest of us could only afford PSUs like this (which I currently use), or this.

Shameless Cooler Master plug... I know,  :laughing7: but it works splendidly.

It's currently driving:
* An overclocked LGA-2011 CPU @ 4.6 GHz
* 2 overclocked GTX 660 TIs
* 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs
* 2 G.Skill RAM cooling fan kits
* 6 case fans...3 of which are 4200 rpm
* Asus Xonar DX sound card (which requires a floppy drive power connector)
* XSPC X20 750 watercooling pump
* 2 cold cathode lights
* 5-channel fan controller

Max system power usage tops out at around 750W full load...so it's MORE than enough PSU to run that beast.  :)

Let us know what you find.

Spending $300+ on a PSU with the corsair name and features to power my expensive and sensitive equipment AND last 5-7 years is just good sense.

...and that's PLATINUM effeciency you're paying for, not lowly bronze.

There's also the 860w version for $200 that would be more than good enough for 95% of builds out there.

My system specs (see sig) never draws more than 500w total power anyway at full gaming load.

Sorry though. Cooler master can't see the inside of my system attallll! A mediocre jonny guru review score just eh good enough.

Take a look at what QUALITY looks like.

...and once again...Captain Awesome has to resort to an elitist rant.  :(

Most people...yes most...cannot afford a $300+ US dollar PSU.
You do get what you pay for, however.

You have many choices OP, and that's always a good thing.
Don't take chain-up to spend a setta unnecessary money.

I did remember also recommending the 860W unit right?

Take in a review of that one here

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=317

The 860 would be a perfect fit for your power requirements right now and even in the future. At the end of the day, i'll trust a more stable supply over one with higher capacity, especially if that higher capacity is just going to sit there unused.

Scary story, especially because I just bought a bunch of parts to throw my own first build together!

I went with this:

Hmmm..... XFX eh?  How much you paid for it (in total), and from where?

Didn't even know they made PSUs now.

got it CAD$25 off of the $125 price tag for $100 from NCIX Canada. Think there might be a rebate but I can't remember off hand...should look into that

They come highly recommended now, apparently, as they use parts made by Seasonic (another very reputable brand name in PSU's).

I didn't like that price at all, and was lookin for something in the $60-80 range, but the general consensus is don't skimp on the PSU so I shelled out.

Not bad at all.  I'm seeing the XFX PRO850W Core Edition for $115 US on Amazon...also made by Seasonic.

For multi-gpu users though, I think it's better to err on the side of caution and get a PSU that's in the 900 - 1000W range.   Having more headroom than you need is always good.

I always say...It's better to be 200W beyond what you think you need, than 20W short.

Not sure if you guys are familiar with this, but this is what I've been using religiously for short while now since discovering it:

http://pcpartpicker.com/

Should be self explanatory, but its an up-to-date tool for price comparison across a range of vendors/countries. Lots of options. The logical increments guide is really good too I think.
