Talk about sensory overload.

wow

I could use a setup like that for Titan Fall.

Might be considered cheating though, lol

Nice peak into the future of multi-monitor, I like, yea, firstchoice should go with this :laughing7:

But dirt 3 is an extremely easy game to drive, and he could not get it to run over medium-high.
Anything less than 60fps is unacceptable for me also. Would be interested to see how this setup runs on like 4 Titans.
But I don't think the scaling is in place to take advantage of it, but would be nice to see if with 4 Titans, what kinda
FPS u go get at 12k 60Hz, but the fact they use one of the easiest games to drive to test this demo, says a lot about the limitations involved when trying to game at 4k, yUh could forget about trying to run crisis quality games on that.

Still, impressive.

Ok was considering creating a new thread for this. Many of you may be familiar with this, but I recently tested and it works beautifully, so figured why not share.

Recently discovered Down sampling, or 'Ordered Grid SuperSampling AntiAliasing' in effect you can get your regular 1080p display to render resolutions of 2560 x 1440 and beyond.

Quote
What is downsampling

Downsampling, also called OGSSAA : Ordered Grid SuperSampling AntiAliasing, is in this case the concept of rendering the game at a much higher, custom made, resolution than your monitor is capable of displaying and subsequently having the GPU rescale the image ( as in downsample ) to that of your monitor's native resolution to which the end result is a "cleaner", sharper and less aliased image.

Why

King of all AA methods, affects virtually every kind of aliasing but it's also very taxing which is why we have other less demanding alternatives, SMAA, MLAA, FXAA etc. Sadly we are in a position where we have pc-games shipping with "AA on/off" options or have AA implementations that leads much to be desired making people use other forms of externally forced AA.

We're also at a point in this "generation" where the discrepancy between pc and console hardware is bigger than ever giving pc-users a much larger performance overhead. What I mean by that is that there are a lot of people out there with hardware that can run many/most new games and virtually any older game at higher resolutions than 1920x1080 while still maintaining an acceptable framerate even though 1920x1080 is still the standard resolution of most of our monitors.

Using downsampling you almost never will have to worry about a game's image quality being ruined by lack of AA since it works in almost any 3D game out there. Compared to other types of AA solutions like SMAA/FXAA-injectors or "Nvidia Inspector AA" you won't need to fiddle with settings or files at all, when it comes to downsampling via custom resolution once you got it up and running it's just a matter of using that resolution in any game and presto you got yourself some AA brewing. It is worth pointing at that downsampling still works great with those aforementioned AA methods ( injectors, inspector etc ) and whatever kind of AA solution/s the games you want to play offer, you can mix, match and stack AA to your heart's content.

and here

tested on Borderlands 2, Battlefield 3, Tomb Raider, Metro Last Light, Crysis 3 and Assassins Creed 3. Even tried resolutions of 2560 x 1600.

Big Props to man like Mobscene.

Keep in mind that this will cause massive frame rate drops.
So I highly recommend against this for MP games if u getting less than 60fps.

It have nuff lag on the internet, we doh need more :laughing7:

hahha @ dedicated monitor for skype

Zerk, I was a little taken aback by your post.

Because...to me, super sampling was already a very common anti aliasing method. (correct me if I'm wrong fellow tech brethren)

But if this Ordered Grid variant is yet another implementation that somehow makes PC gaming better....then I'm all for it.

This actually changes your desktop resolution to the aforementioned 2560 x 1440/1600 (or more if Display could push it) so it isnt limited to just smoothing out jaggies as with various other types of antialiasing.

Granted this is tricking a 1080p display to 'downsample' to display at a higher resolution, so it will be no comparison to the real thing,(a 1080p just doesn't have the pixels that a high resoultion display would) however there is a vast improvement in visuals. (and a seriousss drop in performance)

It works especially well with borderlands 2 at 2560 x 1600, still very playable, and looks incredible. most of the other games ive tested had noticeable drops in performance. (Metro was at 15fps  :shakehead:) Battlefield 3 looks  gorgeous.

This is also a good way to see if your rig is ready to upgrade to a higher resolution display.

Id personally love to compare a down sampled display side by side to a high resolution display to see the difference.

I can do the comparison on Friday for you.

I have 2 30" side by side right now.

So ill do 4k downsampled on 1, and native 2560*1600 on the other.

Results will be skewed since is an HP vs Dell, completely different color pallets and contrast etc, i'll tune the displays to look as similar as possible before I start. And I go report on results.

And wyatt, this method is ah bit different than how AA works. Cause one can argue, having a high res display u don't need AA. For me for instance, putting AA on or Off on a 2560 display, u hardly notice any difference. Because the resolution so high you don't get jagged edges atal. Muchless for a 4k display. That makes the utility of traditional AA methods kinda useless.

But it much harder to drive double/triple/quadriple the resolution, than it is to utilize traditional AA methods. Thus the massive frame drop received by berserk.
