Paying to play?
« on: April 29, 2014, 02:22:30 PM »
As a Nintendo fanboy this idea of paying to pay online is very foreign to me but on the other hand Nintendo is only just getting into online in a "real". So I wonder how will I feel if in the next few years Nintendo was to come out with a new system and suddenly say you will now have to PAY to play online,

How will I feel? :dontknow:

So for the answer to this I look to my many loud and disrespectful Playstation fanboy friends. Who after years of bashing and ridiculing XBOX fans about having to pay to play online are now faced with the same situation. To my surprise I see nothing but willing acceptance to the life changing, awe inspiring Sony model. Questions run through my head like, "I thought you guys said you will never pay to play online?", "That Xbox fans are so stupid to buy a game, pay for DLC and still pay to play the game online and still pay for internet!" WHAT!?!? :angry5: But do I dare ask? Do I dare ask of these giants of gaming who made a living out of crushing the pride of Nintendo fans like me who would choose Mario over Battlefield or Smash Bros over SSF4, dare I ask? Dare I ask? After a few minutes of deep meditation and ensuring my last will and testimony was in order I summoned all the strength the years of jumping on turtles and collecting coins gave me, and I asked..............

The room went silent. A chill ran up my spine as I felt the stares of a million sony fanboys all focus in on me :sleepy5: :icon_pale: "YOU MAD!? XBOX  LIVE IS SHIT!" "PS PLUS IS A MUCH BETTER VALUE YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FREE GAMES WE DOES GET EVERY MONTH?!"

"But you still paying. free is free and pay is pay even if they giving you a free bag you still paying" I said."I was then treated to a half hour of shit talk and anti Nintendo jokes that would bruise the skin on bowser"s butt.

I'm not saying that I would give up on Nintendo if they did the same thing but to be so accepting of it? When Sony said you will now have to pay to play online I was looking out for a backlash from sony fans greater than the Xbox fans kicked up about that thing Microsoft was going to do where you couldn't lend games, I forget what its called. In the end i'm just saying, WOW!

FIRE WHEN READY GUYS LOL!

LOL!!!

Paying for online is absolute bullshit.Have no way around that. But I don't pay PS+ to play online, I mainly pay for the games and deals. Look at it like this Microsoft rapin yuh, Sony have the courtesy to use lube.

Had both Xbox live and ps plus. I believe both have their merits. Still it is a great time to be a gamer as you have choice. If you want free multiplayer and epic prices on games go for the steam platform. Steam machines will help get it into the living room.

Sony was smart in how they launched ps plus. Started off as an add-on service on ps3 and now takes center stage on ps4. The amount of games I got from ps plus on ps3 was well worth the price for me anyway.

Steam is just the beginning of online free to play ( just mind your wallet for the inevitable summer sale)  :ko:, for me online games of this type just serve as fillers till the next Zelda or next great IP to play or spectate. If and when you decide to drift into PC online gaming, we'll show you a few games that are either one time buys multi player or DL and just pay your internet bill monthly, no blood needed, no amputation, nothing else.

Well... maybe time and patience... but that's another story.  :happy0203: :yay:

Vice...as moui pointed out...it isn't for free. You paid for it.

GamerShaq said it best. Paying to play online is bullshit and he "pays" for psn plus for the games.

Emphasis on "pays".

I understand it is a good deal for those who like the games on offer but let's call a spade a spade

the thing is buying just 2 of those  games a month for the year would cost way more than the plus subscription so it's really good value on top of everything else thats why i dont have a problem with plus at least.

This is Sony's explanation as to why you have to pay to play multiplayer. Like I said before, there are alternatives for those that want to play free on the PC platform.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-11-13-playstation-plus-has-seen-significant-growth-says-sony

There are 150 million PlayStation Network members but Sony still won't disclose how many are paying Plus members

At a pre-launch PS4 event in New York City today, Eric Lempel, vice president of Sony Network Entertainment and head of global marketing, gave us an overview of what PlayStation Network and the PlayStation Store looks like on the new console. During the demo and other hardware overviews Sony presented to us, it was abundantly clear that Sony is putting PSN's community and social connectivity front-and-center on PS4.

While most of the PSN functionality remains free to use, one clear difference with PS3 is that you must be a paying PlayStation Plus subscriber to access online multiplayer. While Microsoft has always required a paid Xbox Live Gold account for online multiplayer, millions of PS3 players enjoyed online gaming free of charge. Lempel explained to GamesIndustry International that, quite frankly, Sony needs the revenues to maintain and continue to improve PSN.

"There's a ton of value in the network. We've built up the network over the years and made a significant investment... and it's quite honestly hard to keep everything [free]," he said. "The network's gotten so much better and it's completely redesigned on PS4. And the investment in Plus gives the user a ton of value, so putting multiplayer in there will continue to help us build the network up for our users. It's a massive infrastructure to run this thing, and now with some of these social features there's a lot going on."

Still bullshit.....the PC platform has managed to allow free play online from inception....as has Nintendo (and Playstation before PS4)

Hell, they could allow people to host games on their own from the PS4 (it is powerful enough to do so)

Even the Wii allowed that

Absolute no need for the PSN network

PSN+ as an option...(as was the case with the PS3)....no problem.

Mandatory??

"wha we go do bai?"

...and I did, because compared to XBL, PS+ is giving you way more value.

The online MP is a bonus.

My subscription has 'paid' for itself already...in spades.

lol
again if ur just paying to play online then yea ill dig a lil horrors but when ur also gettin some freebies thrown in and some good 1s at that why complain?

PC is different cant compare the 2. Also on PC keep in mind u often have to pay for things like servers as well, other ppl pay for stuff like teamspeak and mumble so in all honesty is PC as "free" as u think as well? maybe if ur antisocial and play online by urself then yea

Nintendo service in a mess lets be real.

As for ur hosting games comment umm.......what does the specs of the machine have to do with ur internet bandwidth? can have the best system in d world if ur net is ass then u aint hosting shit lol

And F2P games require no PS+ to play online so if men rel salty bout that then play Blacklight, War Thunder, Warframe and upcoming games like planetside 2, H1Z1 and every other F2P game without hassle and thats a hell of a list u can live off to satisfy ur online twitch needs

As others who actually use the PlayStation have said, their subs have paid for themselves many times over based on the quality of content ur gettin.

if ur not regularly on the system then u see ppl complain cuz they watching time spent actually playing vs that $50US.

Its not just cut and dry like XBL and as was mentioned before Sony did it smart giving ppl a taste of it showing them the kinda content they gettin and when ppl get hooked make it a requirement for online non F2P games on PS4 and thus the games now become a bonus or vice/versa

I have PS+ paid off till 2016 already lol
