CAN IT BE TRUE!!? :happy0203:

If it turns out to be so, its truly bye bye Sony.  I mean, this is THE exclusive of exclusives.
My my, what tangled webs this gaming industry weaves...

Xbox 360 Prices May Be Cut by Christmas

Xbox 360 Prices May Be Cut by Christmas

Microsoft is starting to realize that it's going to take a lot more than a couple of pinatas to expand their Xbox audience. Worried that the 360 will get "pigeonholed as a hard-core machine", Microsoft is looking at this holiday season to see what can be done. Though he declined to say for sure whether or not Microsoft will reduce the cost of the Xbox 360, David Hufford (a director of Xbox product management), sees the potential for making it more affordable for the consumer:

"We are well aware that the sweet spot of the market is really 199 bucks... (The Wii, at $250, makes a)strong value proposition. When mom walks into the store and sees she can get a console with a game for $250, she sees it as a $300 value. They've done a good job."

Sony sold 75 million PlayStation 2s at or below that price, but it's unclear if Microsoft can price the Xbox 360 that low when they already lose money on each console that is sold. An analyst predicts that this Christmas, they'll need to have as many consoles out there so that fans can help them cash in by buying games. I don't mind helping them out this year, as long as I don't see another red ring of death from now until Christmas.

Certainly, most savvy 360 owners already know that three red lights on the front of their console means certain unwanted death. A number of users have already undergone the painful ordeal of seeing their 360 units die, but some of them have also witnessed their machines come back to life due to the efforts of Microsoft's customer service department. The more curious lot of these Xbox 360 owners have opened up their repaired consoles to see what exactly has been fixed, and have discovered a new heatsink in their machine.

Reports indicate that this extra heatsink is installed by Microsoft to provide additional cooling for the Xenos GPU, leading some to ponder what exactly is wrong with consoles that are affected by the "red ring of death". Some believe X-shaped clamps are at fault, while others blame an abundance of thermal paste (although others, curiously enough, believe that there is not enough thermal paste).

Either way, the problem of overheating GPUs is still a problem that looms over the head of Microsoft's hardware division. Both the company, as well as serviced 360 owners hope that this additional heatsink will make the red ring of death a thing of the past. However, it is unknown at this time whether newly manufactured Xbox 360's contain this second heatsink or if it is simply something that Microsoft installs only if the console has died.

It's installed in the elite versions and if you're lucky and you RMA yours, they'll add it in as well. The real solution will come with 65nm process. Or perhaps they could figure out what IBM put in the PS3 to cool the cell since that box hits nuclear fusion temperatures and survives.

GTA4 episodes only available for Xbox

But at what cost?

By Wily Ferret: Monday 18 June 2007, 09:18
TAKE TWO games, publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series, has shocked gamers by announcing that additional downloadable content for GTA part 4 will only be available on the Xbox 360, shunning the PlayStation platform that made the series a hit.

Additional game levels and missions will be available to download over Xbox Live. Given the cross-platform nature of the game, it was also assumed that the same would be true for downloads on the PlayStation Network, but now it seems that this isn't going to be the case. There are all sorts of suggestions about how much Microsoft paid for this exclusivity, but no confirmed numbers.

GTA4 is out on October 19, and the episodic content is undated, but don't expect it to hit until the new year.

Microsoft scored a coup obtaining a simultaneous release for the game across the Xbox and PlayStation, and further securing exclusivity for downloadable content has got to be one in the eye for Sony. However, the firm could yet have the last laugh, as livid PS3 gamers cause a very public stink that could be embarrassing to Take Two. We'll just have to wait and see. µ

PS Redlum, viv gamerscore pass urs btw :p

Ace Combat 6 is looking better and better.
Download the trailer from here.

Looks amazing.  Getting this one for sure.

I took those screens from the trailer itself.  Do the in-game graphics look this good?  Oh GOD I hope so.
Make sure and download the HD (80 MB) version of the trailer.  Its the only one that does the game justice.

Oh yeah, and the game will support online play.  Oh how I have WAITED for this in the Ace Combat franchise.
All my Namco prayers have been answered.

^it looks damn amazing!!

Ace Combat is basically my fave console game franchise...

I have 4,5,0 on PS2 and X on PSP

And well I bought meh PS3 hoping for 6...When i read that it may be 360 exclusive..i nearly dead  :crybaby2:

(*insert allyuh ps3 bashing here*)

Seriously which gaming company that builds its entire franchise on another system suddenly switches to another console? (that breaks alot :P...k sorry xbots)

Well hopefully 6 will see the light of day on ps3...as for 360 having it... +1 more reason for me to buy a 360 eventually...

Well apprentice as if we didn't know, here's your answer:
Quote
Microsoft rejigs gaming team

As Sony criticises Volish 'bribing' of developers

By Wily Ferret: Wednesday 04 July 2007, 10:16
THE VOLE HAS SHIFTED around chaps at the top of its gaming division, leaving newbie Chris Early as head of the games for Windows Live.

Early was previous a Volista in the Casual Games division. The half-time substitution seems to indicate that things aren't exactly going as well for the GFWL team as it might have hoped. A Vista-exclusive gaming platform that replicates the features of the successful Xbox Live, launch titles that support GFWL are Shadowrun and Halo 2. Halo 2, of course, is a release of a game that's been out for three years on the Xbox and which any FPS gamer has already done to death; Shadowrun is a multiplayer-only deathmatch game that has been generally criticised for lacking depth and being too expensive for the amount of gameplay included. All in all, then, an inauspicious start for the platform.

The Vole must be hoping that Early can woo some bigger developers to take part in the Games For Windows Live platform - a tough sell when most developers don't want to go Vista-only and want to maintain a degree of control over their multiplayer servers.

However, it's not all bad for Microsoft's gaming division, as the Xbox 360 is continuing to sell well and attract some good games - such as the exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto. This has clearly left a rather bitter taste in Sony's mouth, as top bod Jack Tretton has accused Microsoft of 'bribing' developers to bring exclusives to the table.

"We don't buy exclusivity. We don't fund development," Tretton said in an interview, single-handedly revealing why Rockstar chose to go with Microsoft and not Sony for the exclusive GTA4 deal - money talks, this is the videogame business, folks.

He went on to, we might suggest, grossly overstate the success of Sony's position in the game development marketplace. "Microsoft is too dependent upon the third-party community, and Nintendo is too dependent upon first-party," Tretton proposed, managing to name two consoles that are selling faster than the PS3 around the world. If both have the wrong approach, the game-buying public sure doesn't seem to care. µ
