Aye peeps..just came ot me as an idea. Im not all that tech inclined so forgive any stupid mistakes or assumptions of mine. Is it possible ot use a program such as hamachi to set up a VPN to give yourself a US ip address to download the gears 2 maps?

dunno if u guys figured out a way yet but i stumbled across this on the net
http://www.lazygamer.co.za/xbox-360/get-around-xbox-lives-ip-restrictions

THIS METHOD NO LONGER WORKS FOR THIS TOOL. I CREATED A NEW THREAD WITH A PERMANENT FREE SOLUTION
HERE
:http://www.carigamers.com/cms/forums/index.php/topic,17718.msg215101.html#msg215101

The instructions are pretty much the same the VPN tool is different.

I have done it and it WORKS!!! I downloaded UMK3 which was blocked. I did not use Hamachi however, i used another service.  :yay:

Ok Here are the details.

I followed the article submitted by Blu Vice. If you can't find it see attachment. The one recommended in the tutorial you had to pay for so i scoured the net for free alternatives.

The instructions are pretty straightforward but I did even less work because i found a trial vpn service which automatically configured and created the vpn connection. http://anonymitynetwork.com/ (Download a trail version here, the file should be vpn_tool.exe) Unfortunately the trial only last 3 hours but I wanted to test the method so this was ok.

Other resources to look into to find Free Vpn service or tool ( I haven't checked these out as yet so if they worked please post back results)
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Steganos-Secure-VPN-Download-73840.html
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/SimonTools_CyberGhost_VPN_53514_p/

Note: I used my laptop which is using wireless to connect to my router. Other pc's were connected to my router via ethernet. This would not affect them and you would not have to disconnect them or do anything otherwise.

Before starting go to whatismyip.com and take note of you IP address.

  • Click to start free trial and register at the site, it gave me a password which i retrieved from the email account.
  • I entered it back at the site and followed instructions to download the vpn tool.
  • I installed it(make sure to choose an ip address of a region you xbox 360 locale is registered to) and the vpn connection was made automatically and appeared in taskbar. Check whatismyip.com to see if you IP address changed
  • I then went to Network Connections, right clicked the VPN connection and clicked properties.
  • Go to the "Advanced Tab" and enable Internet Connection Sharing. Refer to X-sploit document for screenshots.
  • Connect xbox 360 to laptop/desktop via ethernet cable ofcourse (wireless adapter if you have it)
  • Check whatismyip.com to make sure you IP has changed
  • Put on xbox360 and you're good to go. ( MAKE SURE THAT YOU XBOX 360 NETWORK SETTINGS IN ON AUTOMATIC NOT MANUAL)

I havent loaded on any points as yet so I cant yet buy any items from the marketplace but I was wondering are all items from the xbox live marketplace ip blocked or only a few select items which would require some sort of vpn to go through.

Nope Eroo only a few game related items are blocked but the entire Video Marketplace with movies and tv shows are blocked. So now we can access HD movies and tv shows :D.

SEE MY PREVIOUS POST WHICH WAS EDITED TO PROVIDE THE DETAILS TO GET AROUND REGION BLOCKING.
It is very simple and only took me 1 minute. I was so shocked asked Arcman he was the first i told. hehehe

Waitaminute...if you connect your Xbox 360 to the Ethernet port, then how do you connect your laptop to the network?  Via wireless?  If so, then this means you need a PC with more than one network adapter.

If you dont have a laptop, then how can you do this?

...or correct me if I'm wrong here.

Uh like i noted Arc, I used my laptop with a wireless connection. So yeah if you don't have wireless you would need a PC with more than on ethernet port. :( Hope ppl have a wireless adapter for their PC or for their Xbox 360.

...and therein lies the rub.

Folks, if your PC does not have another ethernet port, then you will have to install
another ethernet card(NIC) to do this.

Its an important point because the tutorial assumes that your PC has a plethora of
network adapters to choose from.

I will definitely be trying this when I get home.

...oh yeah, and TVersity is da absolutest bombest. :happy0203:

Not true arc, you CAN use a switch. Most ppl will have a wireless router or switch if they have multiple PCs connected to the net. The ONLY catch is to NOT have the Xbox pull a dynamic IP. The trick is to put the GATEWAY of the 360 as the PC that has the VPN connection.

W1ntry makin it complicated.  I would like to know exactly how you will get that to work with a switch.
The point of using a PC is so that the Xbox can 'hide' behind the IP that the PC will get when you use
the app.  Remember, the Xbox network settings need to be to automatic, so you can't set your gateway
address without having to specify IP address AND subnet mask.

W1ntry, please explain how you can do this the way you suggested.

...and I'm actually using TVersity flawlessly with my PS3.

Alright, you see the PC has in effect 2 IP addresses when using the VPN. 1 IP is the IP address of the physical connection aka your ethernet port 192.168.x.x. Then there is the VPN IP address which is a function of the software. If it's a windows VPN connection then your PC will obtain an IP address for the Virtual connection.

Keep in mind the physical connection and the Virtual connection are TWO SEPARATE IPs. Thus, even IF you only had ONE PHYSICAL connection, it still has 2 IP addresses and for all intents and purposes it's 2 different connections.

Thus, you would share your normal PHYSICAL connection ala windows internet sharing, but all traffic is funneled through the VPN connection.

Your PCs PHYSICAL connection IP would be the gateway IP of the 360 (the DNS shouldn't matter, but should one be pulled via the VPN connection I would advise to hardset the 360 DNS entries the same).

Now what happens is most times than not, split tunneling is NOT enabled by default (meaning USUALLY VPNs are used to secure your connection over the internet to a LAN and as such surfing whilst remotely browsing your company lan is disabled), in windows there is a setting for it. I am unaware what is required for what yall are doing. If it uses a 3rd party software client.

If I have confused you, doh worry, I do VPNs, firewalls, etc for a living.. so I may have gotten ahead of myself XD.

So to recap in simple:
Setup internet connection sharing on the PC e.g. My PC ip: 192.168.1.2
Setup the Xbox IP settings manually: e.g. 192.168.1.3, subnet: 255.255.255.0,  gateway:192.168.1.2
DNS could be TSTT/Flow default: e.g 196.3.132.153

Even with 1 connection it SHOULD work.

Setup internet connection sharing on the PC e.g. My PC ip: 192.168.1.2

Wintry just to clarify something, the ICS is to be on the VPN connection not the Home Lan so how does setting up ICS using your lan IP going to work. Or did I misunderstand what you were saying?

Yup I second that. My understanding was you sharing the VPN connection not the home network. I must admit I've never setup a VPN so by just changing the gateway to the PC running the VPN it will pull from it? If thats the case then kewl because I was now here looking to get a second network card.

You understand now why I had to ask?  Not using a 2nd network card in your PC makes things that
much more complicated.  You now have to have a pretty decent understanding of TCP/IP, VPNs, routing,
DNS, etc if you're going to set this up using your existing physical setup.
