If I remember correctly, I actually opened mine and swapped it out for a known working card but it still failed to register.

I am pretty sure that's what I did but for the life of me, I can't remember 100%. I'll ask a pardner and see if he remembers as he was helping me with the issue.

Got the replacement wi-fi card, and whaddaya know, worked like 1st time.
So it really was the card itself.  * frown *

Microsoft and their wonderful quality control again.

I know in the past, MS got hit for 6 with the RROD, and sure PS3 is now on the short end of the stick, however when I hear the mixed feelings about Sony's attempt to make amends, it's well lacking. Now HERE is something I think WORTHWHILE, and noone had to get hacked for it to happen, just plain good relations:
Quote
Microsoft replacing older 360s damaged by new firmware update
By Andrew Webster | Published about 3 hours ago
It seems that the latest Xbox 360 firmware update isn't compatible with all versions of the console, as a small number users reportedly cannot play games on their systems after updating. To make up for this, Microsoft has confirmed that it will be replacing consoles for those affected.

"Following a recent update to our system software, we have become aware of an issue that is preventing a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail game discs," a Microsoft representative told Eurogamer. "This issue manifests itself a as a unique 'disc unreadable' or 'disc unsupported' error on the screen. We are also able to detect this issue over Xbox Live and are proactively reaching out to customers that may be impacted to replace their console."

Those affected are urged to contact Microsoft in order to confirm that their consoles need replacement.

The new firmware is designed to support a new, updated disc format for the 360, which reportedly adds up to 1GB of usable data to Xbox discs. Microsoft will be replacing the outdated consoles with new 250GB slim 360s, and users will also be given one free year of Xbox Live to make up for the inconvenience.

DAMNIT, why couldn't my xbox be one of these.... I could use a free YEAR XBL AND a 250GB Slim...

you have to remeber the xbox 360 failure rate is higher than that of the ps3, so high that it would be an injustice as you said to tell someone hardluck go buy another one.

Look like is real salt for people hoping for their Xbox to stop reading discs.

Clearing up some confusion

Clarification time! The console replacement plan that is the subject of some of today’s headlines is related to a previous update, NOT the system update that has been in public beta and will be deployed shortly.

The new disc format that is part of the beta has been rigorously tested across all Xbox 360 models and there are no known compatibility issues.

Hope that clears a few things up.

Just bought a kinect (early father's day present) and while setting it up on the xbox 360S, noticed that xbox live is offering a month for $1 again.

Checked online and some lucky gamers were able to use this deal for multiple months.

One claims to have gotten as much as 36 months at a $1 each. Madness.

Anyone from GATT got in on the action?

I'm tempted to try it. I mean for a $1.00, you can't really go wrong. It supposedly adds the time on to your existing subscription if you have one (which we do, with about 7 months left I think)

but what is up with xbox live and these crazy random accounts they create for you....

First they got me with Educated Prawn

now they're at it again with Rosy Trash. Just signed up on the new Xbox and this is what MS saw fit to bestow upon my Gamertag.

wtmc!

Thing is, they give you one free chance to change your name....which I now have to waste to replace RosyTrash to TriniWyatt. steups

250GB 360 for $198

I'm thinking really hard to go and get this...
Cash tight now, was planning to buy for Christmas, but by then it'll still be $299 right?

Also doesn't Msoft have a 5 free games promotion with the 250gb 360? Or is that a special bundle.

As for the 5 game promotion, not sure what you refer to, haven't heard about that...enlighten us?

I saw this at one point on gaming blogs etc.
So this is the "regularly" priced 250gb 360.
The 5 free games are supposed to be digital download.
I figured if both are one and the same I might get the deal.

Anyhowz, my folks need some convincing. They can't justify the purchase right now (even though I buying it) especially since we have a house to get/furnish/etc.
If it has the 5 free games, they'll budge. But for now I gonna try my best to get it lol

Then I went to FutureShop and woot! 2dozen in stock.

Did not get the free games sadly but yes TheApprentice has finally "JUMPED IN"

I'll try to get Gears 3.
Should I play gears 1-2 first? Or can I just play 3.
Dont got a whole lot of time to play a major backlog of games =|
