Best Games ever conceived by man
« on: January 17, 2006, 06:18:22 PM »
I’ve been playing games for a long time now (yes I still suck) but after playing for more than ten years (and counting) I’ve isolated certain games which I consider, “the best games ever conceived by man.”

These games were either the most fun in my watch…or the most innovative. Either way, I’ll give my views on why…..Anyways…as of 2006 and counting.

In my opinion, here are the ten, best games of my miserable life.

10. Tetris (Nintendo: Gameboy)
Not only was this the first games I’ve ever played on Gameboy, it was also the most addictive. I never believed that falling blocks would be so much fun…and HARD! Yeah believe it or not, up to this day, this is still one of the most challenging games ever conceived! No BS!

9. Resident Evil 2 (Capcom: PlayStation)
Capcom scored big and assembled a new genre with this title. I know the first installment created the whole, “survival horror” genre. However thanks to new physics, smarter A.I., a great story within two discs and memorable scares, this was one of the coolest and bloodiest games ever. It also paved the way for such titles: Dino Crisis, Silent Hill and Cold Fear.

8. Half Life 2 Collector’s Edition (Valve: PC CD-ROM)
I honestly did not like Half Life 2 so much, however after I upgraded my PC and acquired some new hardware, this game became a masterpiece. It’s loaded with beautiful (and realistic) graphics, crisp sound effects, engaging gameplay and a nice story. I also like the CE because it also includes: Counter Strike: Source (another big game) Half Life 2 Multiplayer and the original Half Life. Not a bad way to spend your money.

7. Star Fox 64 (Nintendo: Nintendo 64)
Another addicting game, I play it because I love to fly. This game was purely imaginative and with the assistance of the N64 analog pad, I felt like the long eared bastard himself. Also, like Tetris, this game was more fun to play multiplayer. It is a nice feeling to just blast your foe out of the sky.

6. Donkey Kong Country (Nintendo/Rare: Super NES)
People would sit down and tell me that Mario and Sonic ruled the platform era. Maybe they’re right…but I don’t care. The best platform game ever made will and will always be the original Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. This game had the best graphics ever on the SNES (Killer Instinct also) and the best musical score. It was more fun than any Mario game and for those of you die-hard gamers who remember, nothing is more memorable than the mine-cart stages!

5. Mortal Kombat II (Acclaim/Midway: Coin-op)
When I was young and I played this game home on the SNES, in front of certain family members, they were morally disturbed. The sight of decapitations, gore, guts, bone and sinew was apparently too much for them to handle. I didn’t care however. With memorable phrases, such as: “Toasty” and “alibabayay”, this came kicked massive @$$. It’s really ironic too. The latest installment of MK, Shaolin Monks, had to include this game in the extra Kontent. Because quite frankly, compared to the masterpiece of MKII, all other MK is crap.

4. Call of Duty and COD: United Offensive (Activision: PC CD-ROM)
Saving Private Ryan is virtually one of the most realistic and intense war movies ever made….so maybe Call of Duty is the same in terms of gaming…right? Correct. Call of Duty and its expansion, Call of Duty: United Offensive pushed the FPS genre to a whole new level and beyond. Single Player mode is gritty and visceral, with fast paced action, intense violence, and memorable voiceovers and let’s not forgets…the awesome sound effects that will make Steven Spielberg proud. Call of Duty delivers the goods as one of the best games ever.

3. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Capcom: PlayStation)
A true Street Fighter fan or freak would agree that the best title in the series is SF 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting. I don’t entirely disagree, it is a pretty unique game, which gave birth to the fighting games we have now. Still, my favorite in the franchise is SFA3. This game had so many modes of game-play as well as colorful characters. The artwork was extraordinary and well done. The animation was flawless and the added moves and supers were huge assets. A true anime style fighting game.

2. Final Fantasy VII (Squaresoft/SCEA: PlayStation)
Cloud Strife…materia…Sephiroth…the Highwind. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know what these words mean. That’s right, Final Fantasy VII. The best RPG ever assembled. This game showcased some heavily stunning visuals, memorable and nefarious characters as well as some of the most stunning battles ever. The title also had the best story and beautifully crafted music and sound. An epic wonder which spans on three CD-ROMS.

1. Metal Gear Solid (Konami: PlayStation)
The best game ever made. The most suspenseful game ever made. The smartest and most riveting game ever made. Metal Gear Solid created a whole new franchise. It’s innovative gameplay and savvy style makes this a masterpiece and cornerstone for other games alike. No one would ever believe that a stealth based espionage, action game would be so much fun. With a clever storyline, a household name (Solid Snake), movie-like voice acting and a stunning musical score, director Hideo Kojima has set the standard to cinematic games to come.

These are my favorite games of all time, feel free to comment and question my views and opinions!

Ey ey ey! Katamari not on that list! wtmc!?

LOL, Anyway, I really do agree with your list Cept for Street Fighter, never really was a fan, I didnt like tha type of fighting game.... I mean, a pretty lucky person could come and button mash straight through and beat some of the most skilled ppl....(actually thats why i stopped playing it....its fustrating when your little 6yr old cousin buttonmashing like theres no tommrow (mash up a controler too eh) and does beat ppl, after you try and studdy moves, learn stratagies and stuff...nah, i good)

And Snake would have had to been on my list too....sorry, snake is a one of the best ways to kill boredom, back in the day when everyone had a shitty cell phone (everyone had a cell phone mind you...just most were shitty) it was snake right through...
