FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TSTT on the cutting EDGE

Trinidad -
Company creates history with second high-speed wireless data system

On Wednesday 5 April, TSTT announced the availability of a new high-speed mobile data service on its GSM network. With the activation of EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution), TSTT has become the first mobile service provider in the Region to offer customers service on two independent high-speed mobile data networks – EDGE for GSM users and EVDO for CDMA users.

This is a significant milestone not only for TSTT but also for Trinidad and Tobago. The launch of TSTT’s EVDO high-speed mobile data service in October last year and now EDGE, puts the country at the forefront of mobile communications technology worldwide.

EDGE enables compatible mobile devices to browse the Internet and corporate networks at higher data rates. It is to mobile handsets what ADSL is to fixed lines and is along the migration path to TSTT evolving a full 3G-and-beyond network. EDGE will afford TSTT the ability to facilitate more customers who have a need to access Internet or corporate data quickly while on the move. At the same time, EDGE also expands the network’s voice capacity.

Access to the EDGE service is presently available in the northern and southern regions of    Trinidad with further expansion of the to the rest of country scheduled by the end of April.

Bmobile users can get the EDGE experience using compatible handsets like the new Blackberry 8700g, Nokia 6682, 8801, N90, Motorola Rokr and V186, Samsung D500 and SE W600.    With EDGE mobile handsets become multimedia devices that can download video and music clips, deliver full multi-media messaging, surf the net at high-speeds and get e-mail on the move. TSTT’s mobile high-speed technology can also support telecommuting, with people working from home or almost anywhere in the field.

TSTT is paying keen attention to the needs of businesses, professionals by implementing state of the art telecommunications infrastructures that are intended to meet with their ubiquitous requirements and at the same time, facilitating the development of Trinidad and Tobago towards the achievement of developed nation status. The company says its focus is on developing communications solutions that would enable all areas of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy to work more efficiently.

This is the start of a new era and TSTT will continue to provide Trinidad and Tobago with exciting technologies to enhance the way people live, work and play any place, any time and any where.

Hmmm. No idea I don't have a capable phone but it sounds cool. I imagine it is free right now until it fully launches.

You need to check your manual or the net to see if it supports EDGE or maybe someone who has the same model phone you have can tell you...But why wait. Google is your friend.

Yeah, but i've seen trial period services kick ass and turn out to be duds when they hit the general public. Example? Ask some people on this forum self bout Greendot.

edge is for girls!!!

EV-DO looks to be the "manly" wireless option.

More bandwidth, lower latency.

mmm mmm bxtch

Yeah but check this:

EV-DO device charge: $1,575 (FREE with contract of 1 year or more)
Sign Up Fee: $600
Monthly Rental: $500 month to month
$475 1 year contract
$425 2 year contract
$375 3 year contract

Reduced pricing will be offered when TSTT wireless broadband is used for fixed service due to TSTT’s inability to provide ADSL service.

Got that info on trinituner forums: http://forums.trinituner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=85681&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0

I dunno, but I think it kinda pricey. Well, for a man like me who have DSL already of course.  They should have a reduced cost package for DSL customers.

EV-DO not ED-VO...and that is a technology for phones too, just CDMA and not GSM. It boasts speeds much greater than GPRS and EDGE.
