lol yea when i listened to the interview i saw they added ranked respawn
zipper kinda drove a stake through socom players heart with da one
i mean d classic mode still dey but no demo? wtf

cover system isnt a big deal. too many ppl make that out to be a big deal when its not

ranked respawns and airstrikes (was killstreaks really confirmed?) is my biggest problem
socom was built of a skill based rankin system and no respawn games and they basically said "yuh know wa.......fck allya....cod iymc"

d sad sad SAD thing about this is.............ill still pick it up........probably gonna be pissed as hell with airstrikes and ranked respawn but ill probably still get it.......i mean......cud i STILL waitin on a proper socom title to play on ps3....confrontation was balls but still had a somewhat core feel to it doh mind it was slow as molasses

sigh.......games these days yes.......they always disappoint....sometimes i wish cod4 wudda just not ever be created maybe then we would have some creativity in d industry

das 3 upcoming games so far da copyin cod.......crysis....kz.....socom
not even holdin meh breath for uncharted cuz i know that gonna get nerf hard thanks to the QQers from u2. R3......sigh....insomniac say they learned from R2 mistakes an new it was fail but i doubt they go bring da back to RFoM days

Cloud Storage was the main reason I bought that PS+ subscription.
Late 2009 there were surveys Sony sent out highlighting that feature that will eventually come to PlayStation Plus. Glad it finally coming!

cloud storage coming soon!

COOL! That would sure ease the mind, backing up-wise... easy access from a different console.

If/when that gets improved further, I envision the PS4 being about half the size of the PS3 slim... maybe less. No hard drive... with all this jailbreaking business they might think of making it disc-less, no blu-ray drive... yep.

By PS5 they'll probably have figured out wireless electricity (they're making strides) and wireless HDMI. Then it'll be a tiny little black box (with nice rounded edges) with a couple flashing lights. Lol.

The downside to this cloud business? ...at least in the not too distant future? Among others, nothing is tangibly yours. As it is we just buy the right to use their games on disc. If they improve this any more, what's to stop them from having you pay through your nose to get a gaming fix (fees or even fines o_O)? :D

*whispers* it'll be sneaky, but it'll happen.

It wouldnt make sense to move totally to online distribution, not everyone has fast reliable connections. They will be essentially shooting themselves in the foot with such a move at this time.

So yes blu ray will remain (this is a Sony tech mind you, again shooting themselves by leaving it out their consoles. I think they actually confirmed that physical media will be retained.

As for size, its gonna get bigger before it gets smaller. Smaller size means less space to pack nice capable processing power. After improvements in manufacturing, next gen will shrink in a refresh, maybe a couple years after launch.

It's already happened.

You said it yourself: 'As it is we just buy the right to use their games on disc.'

That statement pretty much defines where the industry is headed, if piracy is to be stamped out,
but as Cap said, Sony still needs to depend on that shipped disc for worldwide distribution, or else
only developed countries will be able to download and play games.  Not cool.

Yea at least for immediate future all new consoles will be hybrid digital/physical media.
At one point in the past Sony was all out pushing digital distribution for the next generation.
As the PSPgo proved, the world is not ready for such a move.

The day will come though that worldwide communication networks will become sufficient for the digital age, it just not anytime soon.  Rion did say "PS5", that does sound like a reasonable time frame.

I not sure what to say about this but.. WTF?

Sony lawyers now targeting anyone who posts PlayStation 3 hack
By David Kravets, wired.com | Last updated about 2 hours ago

Sony is threatening to sue anybody posting or “distributing” the first full-fledged jailbreak code for the 4-year-old PlayStation 3 gaming console.

What’s more, the company is demanding that a federal judge order Google to surrender the IP addresses and other identifying information (PDF) of those who have viewed or commented about the jailbreak video on a private YouTube page. The game maker is also demanding that Twitter provide the identities of a host of hackers who first unveiled a limited version of the hack in December.

Sony’s aggressive pretrial discovery demands come in its lawsuit against George Hotz. The 21-year-old New Jersey hacker, who is well known in the jailbreaking community, published the finished PlayStation 3 code and a how-to YouTube video last month. The code allows the Playstation 3 to play pirated and homebrewed games.

Sony wants the information “to determine the identities of third parties hosting and distributing the circumvention devices” so Sony can send them a DMCA notice to remove the material “and, if necessary, seek appropriate relief from this court.” (PDF)

“The discovery they call for in my opinion is overbroad,” Hotz’ attorney, Stewart Kellar, said in a telephone interview.

Sony declined comment.

A hearing is tentatively set for Wednesday. Sony filed its documents about 7:30pm PST on Friday.

US District Judge Susan Illston ordered Hotz to remove the YouTube video and the code from his personal website—orders to which Hotz complied with last week. Ahead of an unscheduled trial in which Sony is seeking unspecified damages from Hotz, Illston had concluded that Hotz likely breached the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. He did so by publishing or "distributing" a hack designed to circumvent software meant to protect copyrighted material, the judge said.

Hotz, by order of Illston, is also scheduled to surrender his computer gear to Sony by Thursday. Kellar is trying to convince Judge Illston to back away from allowing Sony to examine his drives and other devices.

Sony is also trying to haul the so-called “failOverflow hacking team” into court. But first, Sony needs to learn the identities and whereabouts of  the group’s members. They are accused of posting a rudimentary hack in December. It was refined by Hotz weeks later when he accessed the console’s so-called “metldr keys,” or root keys that trick the system into running unauthorized programs

Toward getting the FailOverflow defendants to appear into court, Sony is demanding that Twitter divulge the personal account information (PDF) behind the usernames of @KaKaRoToKS, @gnihsub, @pytey, @bl4sty, @marcan42 and @failOverflow.

Sony claims the hacks will eat into game sales for the 41 million PS3 units sold.

The DMCA makes it either a civil or criminal offense to traffic in wares meant to circumvent devices protecting copyrighted works. Ironically, performing a similar hack on a mobile phone is lawful.

Last summer, the US Copyright Office exempted cell phone jailbreaking from being covered by the DMCA. The decision means consumers may run the apps of their choice on mobile phones without fear of being civilly or criminally liable for a DMCA breach.

When you can't save face, threaten your customers... nice reminder that what we 'own' we don't actually own...
