ok can somebody point out to my why its a bad first impression?
in my opinion its  job well done

and i think it will be an insult if you think that synergy
is purposely not letting local rock bands air there music videos
if it is that what you are thinking

culture-customs and traditions of a state, which are illustrated by literature, music, dance , etc.

no where in history was rock ever a part of our culture
rock is part of the american culture

Very poor quality of production, repeating the same videos within a few minutes of themselves(was witness to this while watching it) and ignoring a popular genre filled with local artists, while playing non-Trini artists (Sean Paul) and claiming to be about local entertainment.

Well then let it be an insult, because I see no local rock bands or any sign of them getting airplay. I can only judge by what I see, which is no rock acts or sign of it coming.

You're confusing culture and history. Rock is our culture because we have many, many local artists and a very large following for it. It is not alien to our people. The rock bands also have their own touch on it, for instance Orange Sky. I've never heard another rock band sounding anything like them. If you want to say that rock is not our history then you are quite correct, but if you want to say that rock is not our culture then you are very much mistaken.

Culture is not equal to history; culture is influenced by history, and is often adopted from foreign cultures - but does not make it not part of our culture.

Rock is as much our culture as is dancehall. If Synergy can air Sean Paul which is not local and not soca, then they can air local rock bands which also have a large following.

ok after that statement
i will just keep on at it

a more detailed defintion:

culture-the customs, institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people or group.

by this defintion it means that rock is not our culture
this is not our nations achievement
we did not create rock
americans did
we simply copy and paste
we imitated them
that does not mean that it is now part of our culture

now we made soca
it is our acomplishment
hence it is part of our culture
for example
pan
you said you can find pan in countries like china
but it is not part of their culture no matter how much they play it
it originated in trinidad and tobago
it is part of OUR culture

now
the thing with the sean paul video
it is at synergy's discretion if they want to play it
it is carnival time if you werent aware
marching bands dont jump up and wave to rock music
dancehall is more similar to soca than rock
you can dance or flex to soca and dancehall
i dont think yuh goin to wine on a girl while linkin park or anyother rock group playin
it just does not set the mood for carnival
rock is not suited for the carnival season
i think that is a main factor why there is non being seen

and now the thing about the same videos being seen over and over
ok
there is no problem for people to jump up on carnival to the same songs over and over
but its a problem for them to air the same videos over and over

i think you all are the inconsiderate ones
just because people who like west indian influenced music
gettin an opportunity to see their favourite artistes
now you all want to jump on the bandwagon and request your own music
there are many rock bands in the world
just because you cant here a few you are argumentative

there is only one area of the world my children
that you can find soca artistes

that is the caribbean

So that definition doesn't support my position? Have our local rock artists not achieved top quality? Is this not an achievement of our people? Therefore, is this not our culture? Rock has its history in the United States, but as a culture, it is a worldwide thing, on both sides of the ocean. We adopted the rock culture into our own, as evidenced by the huge following and many artists who now follow it. Adopted or not, it means it has become part of our culture. Otherwise, one would not say things like "the local rock culture".

Pan in China? If they play it so much, and they have a following for it with accomplished artists behind it, guess what? It's part of their culture. An adopted part yes, but still part of their culture. It would have its history in Trinidad, and its original culture in Trinidad, but that does not mean it cannot be adopted and integrated into another culture.

Now you are starting to contradict yourself. Yes it is at Synergy's discretion to play Sean Paul if they want. But that does not mean they should ignore other artists here in Trinidad. I have nothing against them playing Sean paul you know - I have a problem with them playing Sean Paul while ignoring such a huge part of our population's interest.

Carnival season? All the more reason to show all the different facets of our culture! Now is when the place is filled with tourists. Do you want them to see only one part of our culture, or would you like them to see just how varied we are? Talk done.

Now you're talking as if Synergy is a dance station. This is an assumption on your part. You are also starting to alter arguments to suit yourself. First it was that Synergy is a soca station, now it's a dance station? Find some solid ground to stand on man.

I think it's a problem when people have to jump to the same music over and over in carnival. Repetition is a horrible thing, why are you trying to justify repetition? If they open their scopes, SYnergy will get even more people to enjoy their programming. As it is, it's just the same sort of thing repeating over and over. What a terrible way to get started!

How are we inconsiderate? For many years we have wanted to see our local artists get recognigition. Right now, I'm seeing you as the inconsiderate one because you only want to see your genre playing, even if it's foreign. I'm not saying stop playing the soca, not in the least. If Synergy feels that is it's main staple, then play that more than anything else, but give the other genres some exposure too! That is not being inconsiderate, mangoseed. That is wanting equal exposure for our local talent.

Synergy, at the end of the day, is a business. As a business, you cater to your consumer. Synergy is the only music driven television station in T&T. As such, it's consumer base is the entire television viewing audience of the country, and it should cater to these consumers. We as consumers also have the right to complain when we feel we are not getting a fair service. Equality and simple business is nothing difficult to understand, nor is it unfair.

Uhhh...is it just me, or is this thread going nowhere fast?
Guys, it's pretty obvious that you two are neither going to give up or give in on this issue, so can you reach some sort of compromise here?

Besides which, all of the text is giving me a headache... :-(

Young or not if its suppose to be a local station it should play all forms of local muci that includes ROCK!!!! i mean come on i still have to see that Incert Coin video and Orange Sky video give us rockers some quality time also

Do these bands even have music videos? I doubt you even hear these bands on 95 the rock, so what are you arguing?

There are two ills needed for success, skill and will. Which one do you value more?

so I checked it out this morning after a very long time. and it's gotten a lot better. Yay! Go them! "Alone" - Orange Sky was on. Muahahaha! Of course the noted presence of Machel songs monopolising a bit of the programming is evident. *snicker* I would do the same though. Yay again.
