The Phantom

I saw an interview about the Phantom and its capabilities, and it's looking tempting, even if you're skeptical. It's being billed as a on-Demand PC gaming appliancean. You pay a subscription and you can basically play any pc game in its library streamed to your machine, how often you like. It's a weird model, but apparently the launch library has 500 (!!!) games so that sounds cool. Plus never having to deal with installation and stuff sounds cool as well. They plan to integrate it into steam and other such models as well. what do y'all think about it? It sounds good to me, it's just the price is the only concern.

That sounds cool, but two things:

1) Would you be able to get that kina ting locally?

According to a bit of investigation and some compelling investigation, it looks like the Phantom is a piece of scamware concocted by a well-known conman to rack up some investor millions.

Don't expect anything to actually come of it. It will most likely end up being cancelled, and the man in charge will end up walking away a few million dollars richer as he has a few times before.

Well, i saw it on that one interview on Gamespot Live/Hardware with Infinium Labs President Kevin Bachus from Gamespot's CES coverage. He outlined it and explained its model. It seems to basically be a gamefly/netflix model for playing PC games. Maybe, it would be available locally since the whole thing is meant to be done streaming over the net, so i 'assume' that you'd be able to subscribe over the net. I'm not quite sure what thread it should be in since it's a PC-console. I'm not sure if it was true, but i think that issue has been resolved and the phantom is set to be released.
