one thing with ocing, mileage may vary. my 720 with unlocked 4th core and oced was hella unstable, yet my present 6 core stays @ a cool 30-40 with a stable overclock. (mostly...stares at battlefield...) Its all about the continuous testing, research, and patience. (and well asking plenty questions.)

I personally don't see the sense in buying something and not at least trying to get maximum performance out of it. makes the whole point of upgrading, and enjoying a pc upgrade kind of boring without some sort of oc.

It's a crime to NOT overclock a Black Edition CPU, since my last 2 have been, well that says its all!

Doh study arc, he IS following the voice of reason, note he put HARD limitations on how far he goes, aka HIS voice of reason is 'don't go past stock voltages' everything is relative.

Hahahahaha...

That only applies to my GPUs.

My CPU have a downright nasty 1.49 Vcore on it.  Do some research, and you'll see just how
balls-to-da-wall that voltage is.

...but my cooling is uber, and MSI boards can take any size piggy (aka OC :laughing7:)
you can ram it with.

It's either official, or it isn't. There is no 'kinda'.

Fail.

I'll wait for some actual official benchmarks from the tech sites tyvm.

...and comparing this CPU against a previous-gen Intel CPU is disingenuous at best.

Could it be that Sandy/Ivy Bridge wipes the floor with Bulldozer?  Hmmm.

I have the condiments on standby (just in case), if I have to end up eating my words.  :laughing7:

I want amd make ah comback, d Athlon XP line was juss disgustingly sick. We need another run like that, give intel some competition, drive prices down for us.

^^ agreed... however after you read things like:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-3960x-x79-performance,3026.html

It makes me worry that a comeback now is near impossible... Intel tick tocking away is good, revise, rebuild, enhance and all that.. but without competition every tick price can stay high, every toc we continue to pay more... As it stands my rig does EVERYTHING I need it to do without being even the price of an Xtreme Ed. Intel CPU, but that does NOT mean that joe avg doesn't want at least close to the previous tick/tock in the following year without having to pay the maintained Xtreme price...

Imho bulldozer is going to disappoint because intel set that bar REAL HIGH, but I am MORE than willing to eat meh words!!!

Can't say I am at all impressed by the featureset that x79 offers. I appreciate the redesign towards consolidation of controllers and integration of more logic into the CPU. The CPU's themselves are great as well, still, for someone looking to invest in a platform that will carry them comfortably for 3 years like x58 did, I find it sorely lacking.

I for one will wait for Panther Point and the Ivy Bridge refresh where things like native usb3, sata3 and pci-e 3 are promised. Sure Manufacturers can and probably will put usb3 and sata3 on x79 boards via add on controllers but as we all know, those solutions will never be as good as natively integrated support.

That article's author know what he saying. x79 is not a worthy successor. NEXTTTT!!!

The article is in relation to Intel just pumping out newer, faster tech at a pace at which NO competition can compete. No competition means when they re-solidify their monopoly we're all screwed as consumers... Also add their 3D gate and 22nm process tech and even the existing designs will see a notable increase in performance. IF and I do mean IF AMD can at least match the existing Corei7 Sandy Bridge tech, then at least Intel will hold a reasonable lead which should see AMD remain competitive with decent pricing... however if it does NOT, then Intel's lead will only increase and the ONLY chance we consumers have after that is a paradigm shift with windows 8 and ARM, but I not holding my breath.

I dont really think Intel is really pushing it at this point. They are definitely not sleeping at the wheel but at the same time, I do not get the sense that they have an extreme sense of urgency with their releases.

If AMD was nipping at their heels, I think they could definitely pump at a couple notiches higher.
